Thanks James, this is absolutely fascinating. You are a genius. Can't wait for part 2.
@@johnlawlor123 thank you! Part 2 gets released today at midday 😀
So, now I've finished watching. I understand it's been around 4 years since the making of this video; however, I'll leave some comments. 1) About the song "Evening falls" (a favourive of mine, mostly because of its melody): You'll be surprised if you find out the story behind the lyrics, a story told to Enya or Roma, almost unbelievable, about a house (and that explains why you see what you see in the video made for this song). 2) About the last track, "Na laetha geal m'óige" ("The bright days of my youth"): Before I knew the meaning of the lyrics, I couldn't like this song. It has a "special" melody; one which reflected what I later understood: pain (not melancholy; something different, something sharp: that kind of pain). And then I knew she was singing about the definite loss of the/her youth; a time, surely wonderful, which is gone forever. The intentional dissonances as well as the uillean pipes reflect and express perfectly the pain I speak about. (Dedication to her dead grandparents I don't remember being the case of this song, but it is of the last one of the album Shepherd Moons: "Smaointe...", also in Irish. After she finishes singing the lyrics, there appear some chords which, musically, resemble death: they're three or four chords that, if you play them on a piano, you get a sound of funeral but, surprisingly, it's not too noticeable when you listen to the song). Well, thanks again. I invite you to listen again to some Enya's songs or listen to those ones that perhaps you've not listened yet. ✨✨😊✨✨
TWO COMMENTS: 1) I think you missed track n°7 here, "Hope has a place". 2) Did you catch, between 3:48 and 4:13 of "China roses", those kind of "hidden" verses?: "Follow the sun, I know the way, Go to the stars, I see the way". Something similar, and shorter, is published in the booklet as the final verses of the song, but it's not what Enya actually sings. It's when the song starts to fade before reaching its end. Have a try and then tell me what you can hear.
@@leandrogasperi3669 It's been awhile since I listened to The Memory of Trees so I will have look out for that when I next listen to it. 😊
"Solace" might content sadness, but what stands out most, to me, is the hope and the peace you can find DURING and AFTER that sadness. I think Enya's songs rarely stay IN the sadness as an emotional state. For example, the song "To go beyond II" from The Celts, is, to me, like a gentle and soft touch which gives you peace during or after a sad moment in life. Perhaps it is because it lets me drop some tears I keep inside, tears that are destined to come out and, so, free myself from a pain. Or perhaps its purpose is to awaken or strengthen my sensitivity. This particular song, "To go beyond II" has been one of my favourites pieces since I first heard it, at the age of 11. I'm 41 now.
I think I've read or heard about Loxian PEOPLE (fictional, of course) apart from the language itself. If I'm not wrong, they would be "living" at another part of the universe from where the Earth is seen just like a pearl in their sky. And they might have some connection with the ¿ancient? Celts, as a result of wishes, imagination or interpretation made by Roma Ryan. (She explains it better on her book "Water shows the hidden heart" I believe; same title as the last song of Amarantine). It's like THEIR (the Loxian's) point of view. And how they would have existed or would exist in an imaginary future time.
So now I'm finding out you have more reviews on Enya's albums!! I'll be watching them soon, and leaving my comments. It is "Shepherd Moons" my favourite one, followed by "A day without rain". Saludos desde Buenos Aires!!
@@leandrogasperi3669 thank you for watching my reviews! I will try to review another Enya album soon 😊 Greetings from England :)
@@NorthumbrianMusician 👍🏻☺
FIRST of all, I love having found a video with a review of Enya's music. (So, thank you!) SECOND: Something to say about the LOXIAN language and other fictional language used by Enya in her songs. The Loxian, as Enya herself has said (and I use my own words here), appeared as a "solution" when no other language could give form to any appropriate lyrics to fit three melodies of the album Amarantine (neither English, nor Gaelic, nor Latin, to mention the most common or familiar within Enya's songs). And it's true that this idea came to Roma Ryan after having worked with Tolkien's fictional language. (There's also a song, "Aníron", which is entirely sung in this language, and composed for the same film as "May it be": T.L.O.T.R. - The fellowship of the Ring). THIRD: About the song "The Forge of the Angels": It is presented as written in Loxian, but, unlike other songs with the same language*, this one doesn't let the listener perceive words nor syllables, at least, more than two or three, which doesn't correspond with the given translation. I personally consider this song as an instrumental. The content of the translated lyrics suits very well with the song. * "The Loxian Gates", "Less than a Pearl", "The River Sings" and "Water Shows the Hidden Heart". Once again, thank you for this video. It's the first time I see you here.
James😭!!!! Missed you so much, my guy. Can't beleive the last video you uploaded was our collab, so it's surreal that you're coming back with a banger of a new album! I simply am so excited for you❤
@@samazwe it's so good to hear from you! Yes, I can't believe our collab was three years ago. I took a long hiatus from RUclips (mainly to concentrate on this album) but it's good to be back! Thanks for all your support 😊
Hi James, “Wind and Wuthering” is a very interesting Genesis album but my top favourites are “Duke”, “Abacab” and “Genesis” which you should definitely check out!! 😁👍
Thanks for the recommendations! I actually haven't listened to those Genesis albums in full before so will have to give them a listen 😊
@@NorthumbrianMusician Yes, definitely do but keep away from “Illegal Alien” from the 1983 album as it’s not aged well and it just sounds too poppy for Genesis anyways. However, tracks such as “Mama”, “That’s All”, “Home by the Sea” and “Silver Rainbow” are fantastic songs and even “Taking It All Too Hard”, “Just a Job to Do” and “It’s Gonna Get Better” are pretty good too!! 😁👍
HI James, I'm here 3 years later... I've enjoyed revisiting this video. I hope you do a follow up for 'The Riddle' album. This year marks 40 years! ;)
Thank you for revisiting my review! I can't believe it's been 3 years since I filmed it. I do hope to get back to doing some RUclips reviews later this year, it would be good to look at The Riddle album :)
My favorite tracks on it are Wouldn't it be good, Bogart, Shame on you and Faces. One of NK best albums for sure !
This album continues the High Standard of Art Rock and Progressive Pop started by the previous album Sheet Music, but the bonus on this album is that on side one, track two, is one of the greatest Love Songs ever written. The rest of the album is still very good, the hilarious Second Sitting For The Last Supper, Une Nuit A Paris and Life is A Minestrone being the best of the rest.
'I'm Not In Love' always makes me very emotional when listening to this album. Thanks for watching my review :)
That’s Hafnarfjall mountain in Iceland on the cover! Amazing album and probably their best. I’m a fan since 1987 and have everything multiple times on all formats.
Monumental album
LOL who is this clown? watched 3 minutes and he is still talking about the album cover... ZZZzzzzzzzz!!
Their 1st album is a great album, a great way to introduce your band to the world and if you haven’t listened to their later albums James you really need too. However, I know you’ve listened to “World Machine” but if you haven’t listened to the other albums they’re definitely worth it and they’re all unique in their own ways. 😀👍
I will definitely have a listen to them. It would be great to get The Persuit of Accidents on vinyl in particular. :)
@@NorthumbrianMusician Yes, I’m going to try to buy them all on CD. 😀👍
Hi James, I’m a massive Level 42 fan and I think this album is great as some of the songs on this album are some of my favourite songs of all time. In my opinion, the 1st album, “The Pursuit of Accidents”, “Standing in the Light” and “True Colours” are my top favourite albums by the band. 😀👍
They are a brilliant band! I still need to get those other Level 42 albums that you mentioned on vinyl :)
@@NorthumbrianMusician “Standing in the Light” is my favourite for sure, it definitely sounds like it’s from the 80s and Mark’s slapping is beastly on that album too. 😀👍
They were never better before or since that album. Nearest for me was forever now which is my second after world machine
I need to get a copy of Forever Now on vinyl. Level 42 are a brilliant band :)
Their best album
Hi James. Nice Review. I agree with your sentiments. In fact I would say that this album is perfection and the best jazz-funk debut by any British band ever. If you like '43' this then try some Return to Forever especially the album Romantic Warrior. Mark and Phil were big fans of Chick Corea and the Mahavinishu Orchestra growing up in the Isle of White. I have just bought a signed remastered version and it sounds great although I have a Japanese press which sounds excellent. Heathrow and Starchild are still featured in the live set. I listen to this album at least one a month and have done so for over 40 years. Go well
Thank you so much! I will check out your listening recommendations too! The Level 42 debut album remains one of my favourite albums to play on vinyl. :)
definitely my favourite Level Album. Thanks for the review.
Great review James 😊. Not a criticism but it’s Boon and Phil Gould and not Gold . I’ve went to see Level 42 play live last week and they’re good as ever . Thanks for doing a review of my favourite group 😊
Glad you enjoyed the review and thank you for your feedback. I do endeavour to get name pronunciations correct on RUclips as well as on radio, however sometimes I do make errors. I greatly appreciate it when people let me know and I can get it right in the future. :) I would love to see Level 42 live, hope you enjoyed it!
Very nice review!!
Thank you! :)
Enya... what an artist! Never put out a mediocre album. Never compromised her style. Integrity and talent is a rare combination.

Really glad that this was the first Bowie album you heard in entirety. Same for me, when I bought this on cassette age 12, going on 13. It galvanised my music taste for the rest of my life. A desert island disc for me.
Thank you Matthew! It is albums like this one that stay with you for the rest of your life :)
James do you have the soundtrack Album Elvis ? who made the movie is Baz Iuhrmann ! have you saw the movie Elvis in the cinema ? im going today
I really need to see the new Elvis film- the soundtrack would be good to feature on my Curtain Up show which I produce for Radio Tyneside. Hope you enjoy the film!
i just sub your channel ! please review Kate Bush first and secound albums.
Thank you John! Yes, I really need to do some new album reviews. Hopefully that can happen sooner rather than later :)
My favourite Abba album (I think). And it contains two of my favourite Abba songs: When All is Said and Done and Like an Angel Passing Through my Room. You discuss this album with insight and maturity, and your knowledge is very impressive. I had never actually paid much attention to the paintings per se, though I have long admired the album cover (surely one of the most iconic LP covers of all time). However, I will now find out more about Kronberg after your discussion. Great work James. I've subscribed, and I'll now look at your other videos and I hope to hear your views on Voyage soon.
Thank you Ed! I'm glad you enjoyed the review! I have listened to Voyage on vinyl and I will have to review it soon :)
@@NorthumbrianMusician Hope so. I enjoy your style and insight.
I bought this album in 1976 and had to wait 45 years for the review!
Hi Toby, thank you! Hope you enjoyed the review :)
The Wedding List is underrated
Ikr ?
You're so funny! I love this review!
Thank you so much! :)
Absolutely love this review. You remind me of an English Ed Grimley. Wind and Wuthering is a tie with foxtrot for my favorite Genesis albums. But they’re so different, I’d hate to honestly compare the two!
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the review! I've just looked up Ed Grimley- he seems like a great comedic character! I haven't listened to Foxtrot yet- I will have to give it a listen. :)
@@NorthumbrianMusician It’s a very different Genesis. Wind and wuthering was a lot more Tony banks, whereas foxtrot was when the band was a bit more balanced. Plus you had Peter Gabriel being funny and creepy. I feel like most people sleep on foxtrot compared to nursery cryme and selling england, unless they’re talking about supper’s ready. But still, between trespass and wind and wuthering, you can’t really go wrong.
SUCH AN INTELLIGENT REVIEW! THANK YOU!
Thank you! :)
I loved your review! You should do one for the Chess concept album
Thank you! Yes, that's a good one to review. Chess is one of my favourite musicals :)
"Arrival" is a fantastic album the best pop music from ABBA Dancing Queen is the masterpice My love my life & Knowing me knowing you inmediatly behind at high level That's me & Tiger are amazing tracks Arrival is beautiful When I kissed the teacher & Money money money are greats, leads by Agnetha or Frida Dum dum diddle & Why did it have to be me are the two that I like at the less but are nice and good too I think you could review to the next: "ABBA The Album" Is more versatility every song is different in genres and styles ABBA do it the best of your music
I'm glad you enjoyed the review! Yes, I will have to review ABBA The Album soon! :)
Yeah James this is good yr heading in the right directions there ..vocal background is great . Ad sime drum beat perhaps moving sky ..speeding up..etc. Overall this is good 👋🏻👏🏻👏🏻😇
Thank you Robert! This has been a really fun collaboration between me and fellow RUclipsr Brotherhood, his idea for the sound on sound vocals works really well. :)
@@NorthumbrianMusician vangelis .. James.. Touch of Enya in ther too 🎼🎶 an Yr talent added in too of course 😇🎈👌
Fabulous work James! This sounds absolutely incredible! :O
Thank you so much! :)
Fantastic work James, really enjoyed your analysis and thoughts on this great album. Kershaw is a voice of a Prophet. 'Cloak & Dagger' a fine example of how our World is controlled by the Government or the higher unknown elite. "our world behind closed doors" and "our future in their hands" - 'Faces' another song which is about religion and the hypocrisy of some organised religions. It's a critique of polytheism. Religions that have different gods for every different occasion and emotion like Hinduism. These are the different 'faces'. Gods of war, and gods of peace. Kershaw was way ahead of his time. Probably the most underrated artist the world has to offer. - If you get round to it. please do an analysis on 'The Riddle' album. another song with a political meaning from there - 'ROSES' about pollution , and he's warning us that mankind cannot continue to wreck this planet. with the powerful lyrics of: "in the name of energy we give our problems to the sea they'll be back for you and me in our haste we forget leaving old mistakes behind out of sight is out of mind our disposable mankind what a waste" Literally the David Attenborough of the Music world.
Hi James great review.. Yes I had this on cassette. Got say another gem but my fav is 2nd album the riddle.. Oh my wonderful album.. Highly recommended a track called save the whale..!.. Please check it out.. Great artist great music.. Both albums are very good.... 🎵🎼🎶 Hope you review my recommendation on ELO.. TIME Album. 🎶🎹🎼🎸👌🎷🎻🎺👍

@@NorthumbrianMusician yes James that's great u got me back on listening to it again so glad u share it an that track save the whale.. Jus brilliant.. Great review again on his 1st album. Stay safe n look forward to Yr next review.. 👌🎶
Cloak and dagger ..wow .long time since i heard it .forget how good that track is !.. ))
@@NorthumbrianMusician "The riddle" album is less commercial, more adventurous than Human Racing which is more based on pop format. The Riddle is very varied in styles, we have an almost heavy-metal track (You Might), a fusion track with Matk King as a guest bass (Easy) and even a reggae track (Roses).
I've just discovered this video and your channel quite by chance, save for the fact that Wind and Wuthering is my favourite album. You are absolutely adorable!!!!
I'm glad you enjoyed the review Thomas. Wind and Wuthering is a great album :)
you explain everything really nicely but I'm actually missing short samples of the things you're talking about. It'd be great for somebody who doesn't know this album and is curious.
Thank you! Yes, ideally I would have excepts from the album to highlight my review. However I'm not sure how I would go about getting permission from the copyright holders. I would definitely recommend giving this album a listen if you haven't already. :)
Eve James I was wondering if you would review one of my fav bands ..ELO..im listening to if just now a huge hit from 1981..called TIME..youl be surprised by this how well itd aheadvof its time;!..lol..very space like .n lot of original sounds I hope you can love thid album very much.. if say yr best for putting it across well .so far ahead of itd time ..one song called Ticket to the moon..how true this may become ..good catchy uptempo to instrumentals ..great album ..Give it a go James 👌🏻x
Thanks Robert, I will give it a listen! :)
Great review. This album influenced so much of the eighties music scene. It became such an important touch stone for many of us who grew up in the late seventies early eighties. I was 15 when this album hit and (with the brilliant singles) it became the soundtrack to those years. He went quiet (apart from "Under Pressure" with Queen) for a few years and made two movies and then came back with "Lets Dance" in 83 which of course became a huge world wide hit. Keep up the great work x
Thank you so much JB! I will be sure to do another David Bowie album review soon! It's great you remember that time period when this album (and the singles) first hit so fondly. The music from your teenage years always stays with you I think :)
