RideNow Ultralight Bicycle Inner Tube Review - A commuter perspective

RideNow Ultralight Bicycle Inner Tube Review - A commuter perspective
Cool video, thanks! I think when we consider pad wear as a factor for value, we also need to include how much wear the rotors undergo during use, since their cost is at least comparable to the pads. I'm pretty confident metallic, semi- and ceramic pads wear rotors much faster than organic, because of the compound hardness. I use organic pads (rolling terrain with short downhill sections, commuting, so brake fade is not an issue for me, but I do need immediate bite and good modulation). I use cable actuated brakes, so that is also a factor to consider. I have never (10000+km) have had to replace a rotor because of wear. I also would shy away from buying pads through AE, unless you're a returning costumer and have built trust on particular suppliers. There are anecdote stories around of pads debonding from the backing plate during use (due to heat I guess), which can be very dangerous. So I don't think the saving is worth it here. I do buy other stuff there though, which I mostly trust in my own experience.
Awesome vdo I have learned a lot Thanks for sharing ❤
It's my pleasure
I have not had luck with the cheap Chinese TPU tubes. One of them was defective even before I got on the road. I took it out, put air into it, it was very deformed and had a huge leak. I know they're cheap, but I don't like this kind of practice
I tried my own fix. I patched 3 Ridenow tubes using Gorilla Tape cut in the shape of a patch. Stuck it on the tube, heated it with a hair dryer really hot.....it REALLY stuck. Airtight right away, edges stuck down tight. I inflated the 3 tubes and hung them up to see what happens. It took like 5 minutes to patch 3 tubes and cost is very low. I think Gorilla tape is way stickier than modern duct tape. Duct tape has been cheapened to a shadow of it's former self.
blud uses davinchi resolve 💀
To be fair, the extra 25mm in length on the Fizik (275mm vs 250mm) accounts for the decreased rail length and useable rail space on the Ryet.
Hello and thanks for the tips with clincher and tubeless tires… my question today is I was gifted a set of Pirelli tubeless but I only use tubes. So can I put tubes so I can ride them in spring 2025 ?
100%, you can put tubs in any tubeless tires.
Never ever went tubeless myself even with gravel. I do not get flats even with thorns sticking in my Panaracer gravelkings.
The ride now glue is just rubber cement and the patch failed after a week. Junk. Now I use Gear Aid seam grip as a glue dot and cover with any glueless patch to protect the dot…solid.
I ran tubeless for a few years, and after I had a few issues this year, I decided I was just going to run tubes on my road tires going forward. TPU's are great and I have been very happy not to have to deal with adding sealant on multiple bikes. Never had any problems setting them up, I just got tired maintaining multiple bikes with it.
Don't assume the Fizik is better. I paid for one of these and it delaminated in about 8 hours. I'd give the Ali Express a go
Interesting, I have it for about 2 years by now and still going strong. I will return it or ask for replacement.
hello which sunglasses did you wear at the end of the video ? they look great many thanks greetings stephan
How many miles do you have now on that Velobuild??
It would be close to 10k by now. The frame is still going strong.
I think your rim tape is not wide enough.
I don't think i want tubeless :D
Tubeless tyres are to much of a ball ache, to wide, to slow, leak, expensive, messy etc etc etc…..
Isit good for long ride? I mean audax?
Ryet is not suitable for me. So I haven’t been using it for long rides
Tubeless 😮😮😮no thanks 😢
Tubes all day, quick and easy. Now using TPU and lighter 😂
9 oz of sealant! That’s 4x what you need.
It is how much it take it to seal 🤷🏻♂️
70 psi for 30c is insane lmao you must feel every bump in the road
Already much better than running 100PIS on 25C. I use this setting to ride 200K+ over 7.5 hours without any bog issues.
I'm proud to say that I never got on the tubeless train. It was recommended as the greatest thing ever, but after working things through in my head, it just didn't make sense to me. The increased hassle, maintenance, weight, cost were a no go for me. I switched to latex and was happy with that. And then TPU came out, so tubeless makes even less sense now.
Takes a brave man to admit he's been conned
Tubeless is nonsense, its an expensive worthless gimmick!!
I ride plus innertubes ( thicker than usual ) lasts much longer!!
Put a ring of silicone sealant around the hole in the rim tape. It works magic to reduce tubeless leaks from the vavle
I ran sealant inside tubes for years and was happy doing it. Running tubeless now and it is fussy
I’ve been running tubeless for about 2 years on all three of my bikes, I’ve had some difficulty mounting tyres, had tyres leak air from the sidewalls (Michelin & Vitttoria) but have settled on Vittoria Corsa Next and finding it’s getting easier each time I replace tyres. I never unmount a tyre to check sealant, using Stans and it’s never dried out on me and always plenty left in the tyre when it’s worn out. I reckon all the issues with tubeless are worth it purely for the ride quality and ability to run lower pressures while still getting decent rolling resistance, I’m at 50psi on a 30mm tyre and the ride is sublime, if you have decent roads in your area then maybe tpu tubes but having used tpu and latex I can say that tubeless is much better in terms of ride quality.
Thanks for the video, I run tubeless on 4 of my bikes, I think you covered much of the teething issues, perhaps I missed it I don't think you mentioned to seat the tyre by over inflating to get the POP. I'm now using the Muc Off Road and Gravel sealant on the road and commute bike. I went tubeless after my road bike had a puncture and it was a nightmare to get the tyre off and on (17mm internal rim and 25c tyres) no way that was happening at the roadside. Thankfully TL works for me and I can continue to enjoy riding far and often.
Tubeless can be helpful in races (and fast group rides) with regard to avoiding flats assuming that sealant can plug the hole. For self supported gravel and XC races that are known to be have rocky sections, adding a tire insert can also help to avoid pinch flats that hole the sidewall. That said, the last resort of having to insert a tube into a tubeless tire with sealant during race can be very costly in terms of finishing position. and messy. WRT to efficiency, my take is that in lower categories (e.g. Cat 5, 4) there are other factors that have a greater impact on outcome than rolling resistance, e.g. drafting, optimized pack positioning, nutrition, hydration, etc. My $0.02.
I think it's a negative when you have to put in more sealant than a weight of a butyl or TPU inner tube. I too have experienced getting a cut in the tire that was too large for the sealant to seal (I did plug the hole but it blew out the worm!). I also had tyres that needed a lot of sealant to stop leaking. And how about a tyre that is so tightly seated on the rim that you can't take it off to put an inner tube in?
I was a skeptic too, but my butyl and TPU inter tubes kept leaving me stranded, so I switched to tubeless a year ago. I've only experienced a loss of sudden pressure loss once. It was a minor puncture, and the sealant did its job. I'm a tubeless convert now, but I'm still sticking with hooked wheels. I have a set of Campagnolo Bora Ultra WTO, and the wheel bed doesn't require tape for a tubeless setup. They're stupid fast too, just an FYI.
I was on TPU's until I punctured 4 times in a week. Moved onto tubeless with just as little as 40ml per tire (28mm on a 24mm internal rim width) and had no more flats since April
1:35 did you just open your quick link above a gutter? jesus man, you like to live dangerously
That was close the the drain but not over the top of it.😉
mine never completely seal. they lose air way faster than new tubes
this saddle is 150mm in width. what's your sit bone width?
Great content. I'm OK with tubeless for my mtb but road and cross/gravel, I'll stick to tubes.
There’s no reason to have tubeless on road. On dirt sure.
I agree that roadies dont need tubeless. I have never run tubeless on my gravel bike and rarely have a problem. But if youre doing some real mtb, steep rock gardens, and anything beyond a Colorado green, you absolutely need tubeless. I tear tubes every other ride when not running tubeless.
Does it (the Ryet) require padded biking shorts? Or is this comfortable without padded cycling shorts? Maybe you're going to say something like "that depends on how tough you are." Well, I have to wear well padded cycling shorts for the seat that came with my 2015 Masi Gran Corsa, so maybe that gives you an idea. I really dislike wearing padded cycling shorts as they are very uncomfortable for my naughty bits. They're way too stuffy and I can never get the bits adjusted into comfort 😪. I suffer 😔
I wear standard cotton shorts with my Ryet and synthetic underwear that is non sport specific and am 100kg. It's worked fine for me for over a year now, I have the cro moly plastic version which is a bit more comfortable than the carbon one though, can't speak on that one.
Dude, do you feel comfortable sitting like that? It looks uncomfortable. Anyway, I ride tubes (on road). There might be some disadvantages but not significant for my rides.
I've been running tubeless on every bike for five years. I run 28mm GP5KSTRs on several road bikes, all on hooked rims with solid rim beds (no tape required). I run about 72psi on the road. I absolutely love the feel of this on the road, there's so much comfort and grip. I use hookless taped rims on my gravel bikes and MTBs. I've done probably thirty tubeless setups myself. I have an inexpensive compressor and inflator as I have so many bikes. I've never flatted a tubeless tire of any type in a way that required me to put in a tube. I just use regular Stan's and I have seen the sealant stop a leak several times as I kept riding. I have had to plug multiple tires, I use Dynaplugs which work very well. Just my experience.
Muc Off BLOWS
I was actually considering purchasing one of the Aliexpress 3D printed saddles, because of the price compared to an authentic Fizik 3D printed one. Viewing this video changed my mind. Thank you!
The AliExpress is nothing close to the real deal.
The juice isnot worth the squeeze. Stay tubed. Tpu are very light and the tubes are repairable.
Nice video! This shows how things are more simple than we think. At the end of the day, a lot of bicycle parts and components (materials) are similar as other stuff, so we can work with what we have in our home.
Like many people, I tried tubeless for a couple of years but now I'm using TPU tubes and it's all so much easier.
Destroys bib short
Nothing lighter than TPU and nothing more comfortable than latex innertube for road. If I were to ride my XC mountainbike more often I would switch to tubeless but not worth the hassle as I am not a pro mountainbiker.
Wow! That's very thorough review! Thank you sir! Ryet is certainly my choice.
