    I am the granddaughter of a veteran, the daughter of a veteran, the wife of a veteran and the mother of a veteran. Three of these veteran’s served in combat zones and two were awarded the Bronze Star. When I think of patriotism, I think of these men and all the men and women who have served this great nation. I have been working on “Always Remember” by Plum Street Samplers. I usually take it out on Veteran’s Day and Memorial Day to remind me of the commitments and sacrifices made in the name of patriotism.

    Hmmm. Patriotic stitching. I love the red, white and blue. My parents immigrated here after WWII, so I feel so lucky to have been born in the USA. I love my country! So far, my favorite patriotic design is Brenda Jervais’ Lady Liberty. I’m looking forward to stitching Stars & Stripes. To stripe-yes! The Thomas kit-Early October. Your Mom is so beautiful! I enjoyed her talk on Summer School. Your caskets and advice on never feeling ready for projects like that- oh, I empathize. I was putting off Tricia’s course, then life intervened and it’s now way out of my budget. I started with crewel, then Kay Stanis and metal embroidery. Nicola Jarvis for embroidery. I progressed to opus anglicanum. Then stumpwork. Just started goldwork. Sigh. Then my eyesight went. It’s taken almost a decade to resolve it. But I’m back. So never delay!

    Patriotic stitching is a symbol of remembering and pride for me. Remembering those on Armed Forces Day for those currently service in our military. Remembering those on Memorial Day who gave all for our country. Remembering those on Veterans Day who served in our military. A thank you to all who answered the call, for God and Country

    Hi Katie - enjoyed your Flosstube - look forward to your lovely dainty flower chart when it comes out ! (hopefully) and very nice to see your mom too! The striped lawn for the Flag Thief Pattern is striking and interesting but I admit I do like it! (I noticed a similarity stitching on the grass on the Margaret Ligertwood chart; the green “overdyed" threads match nicely for the greens on the lawn - I think a little hard to do with silk but worth a try for the Flag Thief Pattern . By the way, hope your mom could share her choices of silk /and Fabric for the M Ligertwood chart - that would be great! Patriotic: I love how flags fly and move on many of the cross stitch charts to demonstrate its majestic beauty .. I think this calls to every Proud American especially with the different shades of Red, White and Blue colors in each pattern. Have a great day!

    🗽WHAT PATRIOTIC STITCHING MEANS TO ME: AT THIS PARTICULAR TIME IN AMERICAN ELECTION HISTORY I am especially grateful and fortunate to be an American enjoying the Democracy that my ancestors dreamed of and helped to build. I am stitching SWEET LAND OF LIBERTY by Heartstring Samplery using the Tudor Silk conversion created by Jean Lea. This is indeed a Sweet Land of Liberty on the brink. I am stitching this as a confirmation that I still believe in the foundations set forth by its founders of our Constitution 🗽and as a memento to hand down to my grandchild...the next generation to continue to grow and protect this astounding experiment in freedom & democracy for our future children to inherit.

But honestly he loves my scissors and since I'm a quilter also he loves to sit and visit with me while in sewing looking at all my scissors ✂️ ✂️ ✂️ A girl can never have to many scissors! ✂️ ✂️✂️ And yes! He's careful. Another fabulous video Katie! 🥳🎉 Say hi to your mother & Thank you for all your videos! I really enjoy watching them! You're beyond talented Katie. You teach me so much!

    Hi Katie - so lovely to catch up with you and yes I am all for the green stripes on the lawn! Another great video and loved seeing your Mom and her tablecloth runner is beautiful. Thomas the Turkey is September please and not sure about the stripes, sorry. I may just have to see more but I am also used to grass being one color. Your casket is lovely and loved hearing the process and finishing fear. I am turning 65 in January so I am looking for that special project. We were just in Rochester this past weekend so I made a trip to Hobby House Needleworks for a conversion to silks for a Scarlet Letter chart, it’s a big one and of course it’s Scottish. The patriotic question was interesting but the Summer Swan by Brenda Gervais is one I am going to stitch. The twist is that I am going to change it to a British flag which was inspired by Periwinkle Stitcher. The reason is my Mom is from England but also it’s our heritage and as I get more mature (I made a funny) I am realizing just how much that means to us especially all the hardships and struggles my grandparents and parents went through to get where they are. But although my Mom became a US Citizen, she definitely had to overcome being a “foreigner” where we live which is unfortunate but she really showed me how to overcome challenges and be strong so that is why I want to do the chart that way. My Mom is 91, has dementia so these moments with her are extremely special and just want her to know I appreciate the journey she took so that I could be who I am today. Thank you for sharing everything.

    I always love your videos…I learn so much!! I really like the striped grass in flag thief because I think it adds a lot of interest. I (like several of your other viewers) am Canadian so I would love to make flag thief with the Canadian flag - thank you for your thoughts on how to do that in your response to someone’s comment about that!!!. I unfortunately have not found any great Canadian patriotic charts - I’m always so ‘jealous’ of all the great American charts and very few can be adapted to the Canadian flag. In terms of Thomas, I would love to start stitching him in September as our Thanksgiving is the second Monday in October 😊

    I enjoyed your new casket. You’re right sometimes thinking about it too much and studying can prevent you from getting on with your project. I’m guilty of that which is why I haven’t started my punch needle. To stripe or not-I would stripe to give it more interest. Early October release. As for patriotic stitching, I enjoy the color palate of patriotic stitching while remembering the sacrifice of our forefathers and brave soldiers who fight fr our freedom. Take care!

    I love your mother. She is so adorable! I liked the striped lawn but I would prefer it with a more subtle contrast. It is rather attention seeking at present! I think late September for a Turkey release would be great for us slower stitchers. I love American patriotic because my family are half American and the US is very close to my heart. Our two countries have a shared history and will always be entwined. America is like a rose which is grafted onto an old root stock but has its own colour and scent. I would love to stitch the Cosford Rise vase of flowers with the Union Jack and the Stars and Stripes. I love flowers and the way the flags drape is beautiful. I hope that our countries will always honour and protect our special relationship. ❤

    Thanks for another delightful flosstube, so nice to see Tricia. Your casket and its WIP interior are beautiful. Tricia's tablerunner is lovely. Wishing her and hubby a happy 50th and many more joyful years together. I think it's great that you encourage stitchers not to be afraid, to just to jump in. I don't do any patriotic stitching, though I consider supporting Canadian designers as patriotic (like Jeanette Douglas and Victoria Sampler). Though I seem to be patriotic to a whole lot of countries lol. My takeaway from today's video, after seeing pics of Elizabeth, is that I'm woefully underdressed. I have no pearls or jewels running through my hair, obviously a gross oversight on my part. I will try to rectify this heinous situation immediately. Take care, and happy stitching, Arleen

    Patriotic stitching calls to me when there is a beautiful flag and possibly some ocean in the background. We live in an amazing country 🇺🇸 and a sense of humbleness as well as pride comes over me. As for the stripes- absolutely keep them. I personally might choose a more subtle difference in the greens - but they add whimsy and interest in the piece. Thank you for the inspirational nudge to stitch that bucket list piece and don’t hold back. I’m seriously going to follow that advice. Great video. Thanks so much.

  • @connieenevold1745
    @connieenevold1745 5 дней назад

    Yes to the striped lawn but perhaps with less contrast? Agree to get more colors in there to see if it calms down but it does seem a little circusy right now. What we stitch says so much about the stitcher. We invest so much time and focus into each piece that the design has to have substance for us. Thus, patriotic stitching means we believe in the history of our nation and what it has stood for since its birth. It’s worth investing in. I overheard a stitcher state that she couldn’t stand to stitch an American flag and just wanted to cry

    Oh such another lovely video. Always love seeing your WIPs and finishes too. It’s such a delight when your mom visits, such a sweetie. Patriotic stitching always makes me reflect on so many levels, how we are free, and free to do so many things others aren’t allowed to do. The men and women who lost their lives keeping us free. Freedom in so many ways it’s impossible to list. My thoughts are for Thomas is whenever you are ready to release him, that’s a good thing. Can’t wait for him and the Dove. Thanks for always sharing and I sure don’t mind any history lesson you share.

    My first cross stitch in the late 1980’s was a patriotic (back then we called it Americana) stitch, my kitchen and pantry is filled with patriotic stitching and primitive items. I’m proud of our freedoms that come with being an American, I believe you stitch the things that make you feel something deep inside. Now because of you, I want to stitch more samplers! The stories behind the samplers are the ones I’m drawn to the most. I just started stitching again after retiring and finally finished my sampler I started in 1991. My goal is to work up to a higher count fabric and try my hand at using silks. I ran across your videos and you are giving me so much to think about, sometimes I need to watch them twice! I appreciate all your knowledge and tutorials, keep them coming please!

I love your relationship with your mother. My favorite patriotic cross stitch is LET FREEDOM RING by Lila’s studio. I love two statements on it Proclaim Liberty throughout all the land and Let Freedom Ring because I love the fact that we live in a country that values freedom for all. No i haven’t finished it but I do have it kitted.

      Thank you! Nothing wrong with kitted but not finished - I probably have more ideas noted down in my sketchbook at this very moment than I could stitch in a lifetime, and that's before I get to all the charts I have squirreled away! And I agree, freedom - not just the illusion of freedom, but the actual exercise of freedom -is one of our most precious values.

I've been researching the centennial and bicentennial celebrations as part of an upcoming project - the bicentennial had nothing on the original centennial celebrations, which were pretty amazing and produced absolutely sublime textiles. I'm not sure that we've ever been more or less patriotic, or better or worse as a nation - just perhaps less fragmented. I love history but it does tend to teach you that humans don't change very much!!!

    Goodness!! All the beautiful bling! Yes, pink and red border! I’ve started Margaret Ligertwood! Love her, Tricia! So wonderful to hear more lovely memories from Summer School 💕

      I should have thought that was right up your alley, except for the part where the pink and red is part of a heavy border!!!! And yes, definitely still reveling in the wonderful memories from Summer School - can't wait for January!

    To stripe! And release Tom when you are ready. We all have plenty to do. 😅 P.S. When are we getting together and eating cake because that sounds like an amazing day 😂😂😂

      I'm always willing to get out the cake at any time! The bougie grocery store near me sells the most amazing chocolate cake - chocolate with super intense chocolate fudge icing. My brother's comment is that I don't seem to like normal dessert, I have to be in a sugar induced coma to properly enjoy myself. Fair!

    Please Katie, if you have any connections, i cannot find a drum to finish my chocolate hearts

      Well you would use the Chocolate Harts as the top, so fit to a circle, and then build the sides around it with the fabric of your choice - circumference is 2(pi)r so easy enough to calculate, and then can be carefully fitted to your prepared top.

    I am stitching Liberty for All (Stacy Nash) now and finding it very inspirational for the true meaning of the words. We take it for granted every day but the world is changing. Cherish each day and do your part for making it ‘liberty for all’.

      Very true - at every point, great Americans have stepped forward to remind us that the republic is a living thing, and that each new generation must take up the mantle to seek a more perfect union, and continue our great experiment in self government. I think it's one of the reasons the idea of America is so compelling - the invocation to strive.

    Hello Katie, thank you for the inspiration and for having your lovely mother with you today. Treasure those moments. My favorite patriotic stitch is ‘Always Remember” by Plum Street Samplers. My dear father served in WW II at great sacrifice as did so very many. My mother too gave so much to her family in working full time and raising younger sibling at that time and rushing home at noon to feed them lunch and then rushing back to work. How difficult that must have been alone. I admire those of that “greatest” generation who gave so much for the freedoms we have today. And so …..Always Remember…….Be thankful and always give thanks to veterans of any war both male and female. Their sacrifices so great.

      Thank you! Three of my four grandparents served in WWII (Britain had female conscription, although not in combat roles), and that left a strong impression on me from a young age - the greatest generation, indeed.

    Hi Katie and Tricia, Katie your casket is very pretty. I love the red and gold on her dress. Tricia your sampler table runner is looking very nice. You are a really talented stitcher. Katie, my patriotic pattern that I had to have and someday hope to stitch is called United We Stand by Blackbird Designs. When I first saw the pattern I loved the pin pillow with the eagle on it with red, white and blue ribbon around his neck. I think it looks Victorian. My grandfather was British , born in nearly the last year of the Victorian England era and it looks to me like it will represent a part of my heritage and that is how I like to decorate my home. Have a great week. Congratulations on your 8,000 subscribers! I have to go back and watch your last weeks video then I will be all caught up.ttfn

    I love your grass!! My question to you is that i live in canada and would love to do the flag thief next year. Can you do a flag conversion to the canadian flag??? I would love to do thomas the turkey but i would love my fabric in September. Im in canada and thanksgiving is earlier here.

    • @katiestrachanembroidery
      @katiestrachanembroidery 5 дней назад

      Thank you! The colors of the Canadian flag would be included in the conversion and I think you could approximate it pretty easily with graph paper - take the charted flag, divide into three sections, and then perhaps backstitch for the maple leaf?

    I am so excited I got to watch this as soon as it popped up! I am behind on your other videos. It was lovely to see your mom again and I’m so glad she was able to share summer school with you for another fantastic experience at the Attic. I love that you have taken your time to thoughtfully finish your casket box. Sometimes things just need to percolate before they can be completed in full. I totally have a 98% issue. When I commit to a fully finished object, I want it to be just the way I imagined and that doesn’t always work out. Congratulations on another milestone subscription, landmark, and next episode should be epic with all your wips!!!!

    I don't care for the stripe look of the grass. I would choose one green shade for grass.
