    The one thing that we really need to know about any restoration and preservation of early historical motor vehicles is that you have to get the use of the day involved with them and it seems that they really really don’t want to. That is a great worry to us here we are is what we leave behind and how we care for it in all shapes and each way you can think about it, less we forget regards Alan from down under where this island is not what you think it is at all

    Great video very informative. I’ve just bought a Katsu 3” Angel Grinder, a nice little tool. I’m just getting back into DYI and a small project I’ve in mind. I’ve bought the Roloc Adapter as recommended in your video. However, I need some advice further please on the various accessories & attachments I can buy & use with the Katsu… Arbours, size, sanding disc’s, etc etc etc… Any advice would be helpful and invaluable… Thanks

      Hi Dave no further progress although it did get moved just this weekend to make some lighting improvements and to insulate the roof above it as I had a big condensation problem. Not sure exactly when work will restart but at least the other side is not half as bad as the side I showed in the videos! Best regards Steve 👍👍🔧🔧

    Those brackets your Mk 2 had are not original, unless Jaguar altered them after mine was made in 1960. The front bracket should be in front of the cross member and flush with the top. The rear screws to the floor and straddles the handbrake cross shaft. I have fitted full electric XJ8 seats to my Mk 2. They went straight in after removing the riveted on brackets from the runners. I think your idea is much stronger than mine though. Mind you, I’ve only just fitted seat belts, personal safety not being my priority, although the new seats did stop me sliding across the car when cornering! The seats I got have all the switching and electronics built in. All I had to do was find where pos and neg connected, and my car is positive earth, but no problem as everything is insulated.

      In 1984 my first job was a trainee service engineer, the company had a brand new MK1 Astra van, it felt like a space ship compared to the rest of the Morris Marina fleet they ran ! In the 90’s I had a 1.4 petrol estate and 1.7 diesel van service vehicles, as now the 1.4 petrol was great fun to bomb around in 🔧🔧👍👍.

    • @stevesclassicgarage9464
      @stevesclassicgarage9464 Год назад

      Your right Scotty there’s receipts for £750 in the history for welding that as you saw was poor quality work that didn’t last. I had to redo the other side as well and that was years ago so god knows how much it would cost now! It’s no wonder the few that are left end there days on the banger track 😕🔧👍👍

    • @stevesclassicgarage9464
      @stevesclassicgarage9464 Год назад

      Give the Gripfill a go for the price it sticks to the metal really well and moulds into the edges of your repair, the felt adhesive was an experiment because I already had it but again it’s designed to stick so should be at least as good as paint!! 👍🔧🔧

      Hi Jeremy my go to for obsolete car parts is eBay , you need to keep checking in though every few days, this approach may take weeks or even months if the part is rare, everything now is getting hard to find. Beuliea auto jumble twice a year also usually throws up some gems. 👍👍🔧🔧

    Hi Steve, am trying to do exactly the same, but no luck in finding the adaptor on Ebay and Avon Engineering not responding. Hoping you might know an alternative source? Have tried to sort with a Female M10 to Male M6 adaptor. The M6 fits the roloc plate, but the M10 female thread won't screw down on the Katsu male. Currently at a dead end :) Was amazed to find your video - thanks Paul

    • @stevesclassicgarage9464
      @stevesclassicgarage9464 Год назад

      Hi Paul I don’t know of an alternative source but please read the comment left by a viewer who describes how he modified a standard Roloc backing pad to fit. You could copy his solution or it might at least give you an idea another of your own best regards Steve 👍🔧

      @@stevesclassicgarage9464 Many thanks Steve, unfortunately I'm not engineering minded - would you know what the thread is on the male on the Katsu - as I said the M10 female only turns on 1 thread and seizes... best Paul

    • @davidhughes4089
      @davidhughes4089 Год назад

      The easiest way would be to get an M10 (assume it's a standard angle grinder to M14x2 adaptor then buy a roloc holder from Flexipads threaded for m14x2. You can buy a genuine 3m M14 roloc holder but you're looking at £20+, Flexipads are about half the price. I use the Flexipads holder directly on my M14 angle grinder and it's great, a lot better balanced than trying to adapt a normal roloc holder.

    • @davidhughes4089
      @davidhughes4089 Год назад

      @@stevesclassicgarage9464 you can get M14 threaded roloc holders from places like Flexipads, just add an M10 to m14x2 adaptor to the grinder, screw it on and you're good to go 👍

    I did the same to mine about 8 years ago. the switches used to operate the seat are, on the seat. It was simple to do. Drop the crossmember a few inches, Forget about the "seat memory control unit) and basically, from memory it was black wires to chassis, orange, green wires ignition control (via 3oA Relay) thats it! Much Much Better. Even the headrests are electric. I even put the 24Valve 4.Litre in with HP22 auto and kept it on the column. I also had it on LPG but going to take it out. Next for me is Lekky windows and CDLS..
