    That stache is worth at least 45 seconds off that 5k PB, due to aerodynamics. I’m dipping into that speed again. It’s a super refreshing break from hella-mileage while equally challenging. I have to be comfortable watching my distance predictions sail away while I improve over shorter distances, then return to distance with a marathon build. LG!

    • @HobbyJoggerElite
      @HobbyJoggerElite 7 часов назад

      I’m hoping that’s the case. Otherwise, it’s time to finally shave! And totally agree. The shorter stuff is a whole different challenge in itself that seems to tickle the brain in a different way, but nonetheless still produces a similar level of suffering 😅 Let’s get speedy!!!

    Ran my first marathon at Philly last week. Great race and crowd support! Kind of tired of running in/around Philly for races. Looking forward to working on speed this winter, a half this spring (undecided) and Atlantic city or steamtown marathon in the fall. Then plan to take on Jim Thorpe marathon in spring 2026

    Sounds like a pretty succesful year after all right!!? After a year “off” of running I turned 40 last december and decided I wanted to PR at least one more time. Did a lot of easy miles and an Ultra in march, a 3:30 mararhon as a pacer in april and then a long build up (mentally too long, 22 weeks or so) to Amsterdam marathon and PR’d going sub 2:50. After a block like that I need time off, just running for fun and focussing on strenght training a lot more.

    @MedicineRunner Месяц назад

    I started running back in 2020 in Nike running shoes and it wasn’t until I switched to new brands that I truly fell in love with running and started being comfortable on my feet. Nike will likely always be the casual wear brand for me. I love the peg 41s for working and walking around in; always confused when people say it’s a “great daily trainer” 🤔

    • @HobbyJoggerElite
      @HobbyJoggerElite Месяц назад

      Totally understand that perspective, and I’m mostly right there with you. Outside of their super shoes, I’ve been underwhelmed. The invincibles are remarkably average for an “innovative” daily trainer, and the Pegasus feels as lively as a shoe I could get at Walmart for $10. I admittedly haven’t tried too many other models, mostly out of not feeling compelled to do so. It seems like so many people historically criticized Brooks for resting on their laurels and being stuck in 2010 shoe tech land, but that finger may be pointed at nike’s everyday shoe offerings at this point.

    • @MedicineRunner
      @MedicineRunner Месяц назад

    I like your comment about often just broadly describing shoes. I have dreamed about shoetubing, one goal to mention arch support even when it does not blister your feet. I have highish arches, and i do not like high arch shoes. Some have elevated area in midfoot both laterally and literally, like VF2, or PrimeX, and that can be OK. It is the medially pronounced arch i do not like, at any level, and would like to know. SB has it, for insntance. Usually, luckily, can be remedied by changing insole.

  • @Freebird65

    Love my AF3. Recently ran 50 mi run in them and they were amazing. Legs never tired, lots of bounce and snappy responsiveness🎉

  • @livegreatalways
    @livegreatalways Месяц назад

    Cannot say anything about the Alphafly 1 and 2 simply because I can't wear them at all. The mid-foot arches are just too narrow and cause pain. So the Alphafly 3 is the only version that I could wear them and I love them so far. Had all the Vaporfly versions and the V2 is the best for me. The Metaspeed Sky, does not come in half sizes so I can't wear those either. So the Alphafly 3 is ideal for me. And oh..yes, the Adios Pro 3 is also my favourite. So those 3 are up there as my race day shoes and also the Takumi Sen 10 for shorter distances. Tq for the video

    • @HobbyJoggerElite
      @HobbyJoggerElite Месяц назад

      Oddly enough, I found an EXTREMELY simple fix for the arch issue in the AF1. I took out the glued insole, and replaced them with one of my normal training shoe insoles! All the arch issues disappeared after that, so luckily I’ve been able to keep using them. Glad you’re enjoying the AF3 though! I’m also a big fan of the Adios pro 3, and am eager to give the 4s a try when they eventually release.

  • @kalvin.
    @kalvin. Месяц назад

    I also found the AF3 a bit underwhelming. It lacked the bounciness of v1 and even v2, and i felt the forefoot to be a bit firm as a result and preferred the VF3 as its even lighter and the forefoot felt more forgiving. Like many others have said, there are plenty of equivalent performing super shoes out there. Metaspeed Paris series being a notable standout for its improved foam and being the lightest non-Evo1 super shoe sold in the US. Ill also givr some love to the Mizuno Wave Rebellion Pro 1 and 2. Version 2 is way more aggressive and more bouncy, while V1 is an incredible long run shoe for me if im including faster paces.

  • @topoisomerace

    4:30 -- That bottle handoff was A++++. I'd be smiling for miles with that kind of support in my races.

  • @bersonlee
    @bersonlee Месяц назад

    IMO, although on paper AF3 has better stability with filled-in midfoot, in the real world for the average runner, AF1/2 both are better since the total area of the heel is actually larger. The missing mid foot actually creates better transition/rolling sensation when someone heel strikes if fatigued, which would happen in a full marathon. The weight difference (0.2oz in Men’s size 8.5) really is negligible between AF1 and AF3. And the AF3 always makes weird sound😅

  • @turcottedavid
    @turcottedavid Месяц назад

    Love the AF3. Doesn’t feel great at slower paces (7:30/Mi or slower). Awesome anything at my marathon pace (630-650/mile).

  • @pauldelaney4186
    @pauldelaney4186 Месяц назад

    They feel fragile and nothing like the AF1 which lasted me for a long time. I prefer the ASICS Sky Paris and the Puma Deviate 3’s and the Hoka Cielo X is brilliant. I do use this for faster sessions rather than racing but it’s such a pleasure to run in it’s worth the cost.

    Good video, Connor. I was an Alphafly 1 guy until recently. I’m a mid-to-forefoot striker with a high cadence and medium stride length. No other shoe ever made me feel as efficient at all of my paces. HR, pace, and mechanics data confirmed that it was better for me than the Alphafly 3 and Vaporfly 2. The Metaspeed Sky Paris is my new race shoe of choice because it’s much lighter than the Alphafly 1 (and most other super shoes), almost as bouncy, cheaper, and feels more natural. I tested it against the Alphafly 1 many times, and the data differences were minuscule unless the heat and humidity was extreme, in which case my HR was a little lower in A1. I figure A1 is disappearing, so best get used to my alternative now. Some say the Sky is too unstable due to the narrow heel, but I never worry too much about stability and was ok at the end of Chicago when I tried heel striking to relieve cramps. Also, images of the next version of the Sky show it has a wider heel. Btw, Stockx has A1 for $150 in a few sizes.

    Great review, Connor! It’s funny, I’ve always been a bit distant to the Nike brand. Yes, they end up on the feet of WR runners, but those same people could run in any shoe. Let’s be honest 😂 Your post here makes me wonder how you’d like the Metaspeed Paris Edge… or Sky(??)… I recently discovered that the Endorphin Pro 4 is totally not my race day shoe! Haha, so the search continues… and yes, these shoes get spendy.

    • @HobbyJoggerElite
      @HobbyJoggerElite Месяц назад

      I think it has something to do with the zoomX foam and the way air travels through the cutouts, but I’m not sure. Very loud though!

    Same. The puma fastR nitro elite v2 has the same kind of bounce as AF1 but the toe box is more shallow and there is slightly less underfoot. I didn’t run the last marathon in the best physical state and I def felt the ground 15 miles in. I would say it’s a perfect half marathon shoe . The endorphin elite I would get on sale when v2 comes out. It’s a more aggressive and incredible endo pro 3. It’s FIRM at every day paces but once you get up to MP and faster , it just locks you in . Those are my two favorite currently

      Yeah, that seems to be where my head is at. I want to race a few 5ks/10ks over the winter, and will definitely be giving the AF3 a shot for those. I’ve had my eye on the Endo Elite for a while now, so I’ll pick up a pair when that second version drops. The previews of v2 look a little too soft for my liking 👀

    Maybe the Hoka Cielo comes closest to the ride the AF is known for. Unfortunately it costs the same and is heavier and less breathable.

    Nike VP/AP are def overhyped. At this point, pretty much every other brand has an equal if not better supershoe. It’s better to find the supershoe that works best for the individual runner instead of just bandwagoning Nike.

    Through ~80 miles, I've enjoyed the AF3 so far. In terms of performance, I don't notice any difference relative to v1, but the upper in the 3 is much more comfortable. Having said that, I still prefer adizero shoes for marathons.

      Totally agree with your point about the upper. I reach for my adios pro 3s for the majority of my workouts. Might have to give them a shot at some point for a race!

    I have a similar experience. AF3 doesn’t jibe with me well. Has turned into the most expensive training shoes

    I feel the same way. I think it feels closer to a vaporfly with a slight pop if you're hitting on the mid thru forefoot correctly. It is much more stable and forgiving when things fall apart. I prefer the Endorphin Elite personally.

      Interesting! I’ve wanted to try the endorphin elite, and frankly wish I would’ve instead of picking these up.

      I was considering OCMD, but I have a family get-together that day. Seems like an awesome event though! I’ll probably roll with Harrisburg or D&L.

    My first marathon I pulled an IT van or something and ended up walking a lot of the second half got home bought new pair of shoes. I did my next marathon three weeks later. I gave marathons my time but I think about it again I said you gotta give it one more shot. The second one went good around the whole thing. It was very hilly marathon and I ran for hours so I took an hour off with the other one. I hurt myself and, it is gonna be long before I try that again and then three weeks later is that another one oh well

    I think you shouldn’t overthink it. If you feel fine now and keep your fitness you can try again in 3 weeks. I totally understand.. waiting 6 montha for a spring marathon sucks if you have a certain goal. Good you are already back running. Ran Amsterdam last sunday. PB’d by 7 min and ran 2:49:02. Body still feels wrecked though. Went for a eeasy 3 mile run yesterday and felt like a 20 miler 😂
