The following is a narration that follows the piece more closely and how it ties to the dream I had. The entire background and story around the piece and the dream can be found in the video description! The piece opens (0:00) with the exact melody that faintly introduced itself after everything else was already forgotten. It hesitantly unfolds similar to how I was trying to recollect what happened, until we reach a small climax (0:48). The key change (1:00) then has us enter the dream itself, allowing me to tell the fragments I still remember. After another hesitant development, the opening theme reappears (1:11), this time with more firmness which aims to show the preparation I underwent before we reach the place where the entirety of the dream played out. The one thing that remained quite vivid was the appearance of a majestic palace in which the entire dream took place. I wanted a waltz theme for this, and luckily I happened to remember a theme (1:40) I had practically forgotten about at that point; a spin-off to my 16th composition which I never knew where to make use of - I actually had to pick up my 16th composition again and pray that I would fully remember the theme. From (1:29) until (2:05) the waltz aims to capture the sense of awe that came with entering and exploring the palace. First friendships were formed, and before long we were sent out to perform …​ tasks? challenges? trials? These - let’s call them - trials were a major part of the dream, yet this entire section has faded away completely. I only remember that they were tough, demanded a lot from us, came with a lot of hardships, a lot of difficult decisions, plenty of dark and dreadful moments, but ultimately formed bonds stronger than anything else could ever create. The entire section from (2:05) until (3:33) was intentionally left very hazy and a bit more sinister as a result, after which a short yet heavy climax is reached. A fun little detail is the reappearance of the opening theme at (2:44). I did not want to introduce any drastically new material at this point, as it would quickly overload the already packed piece. The inspiration here came from @TheMeeksDuo, who told me in a comment on one of their fantastic birthday arrangements, that you can maintain the identity of a piece all the while making a complete departure from it, merely by retaining and recalling the rhythmic pattern (or at least they said something along those lines). While arranging this entire piece, I always had the notes I originally took in front of me; for this section in particular, I let the music evolve on its own but tried to restrict its growth by sticking to the general rhythm and melodic shape of the opening theme. After the climax, another familiar (3:42) theme innocently presents itself again. What initially (1:20) presented itself as the deep breath leading to entering the palace, now presents the end of the trials and the return to the palace. The trials got the better of us though, and this variant shows a somewhat sorrowful tone. With a final deep breath, I am trying to bring forth a bit of courage (4:05), but it all crumbles regardless. Something has undeniably gone lost in the trials, as underlined by the missing bassline (4:14) and the more empty section at (4:26). I faintly recall that we sort of fell apart as a group, and it left all of us quite sad since we actually grew quite close. However, we loved each other too much to let things end on such a sour note, so we all made the effort to amend whatever it was that caused the distance between us (4:39). The theme comes back in its full glory (4:52) representing the victorious conclusion of both the trials, and the relationship between all of us. It was not before long, until the time for goodbyes had come. I still remember how surreally painful those goodbyes were, and even thinking about them now makes me want to burst out in tears. The dream then abruptly ends as I wake up, almost tearing up in bed from the goodbyes, which made me want to recall everything that happened.

I was skeptical at first as well. And you are right. We can't be like that. Because this is not the usual characters that we used to see in every shoujo anime. This is one of the best! The complex personalities that the two major characters have. In particular, Hananoi-kun. At first glance, he may seem overly enigmatic and possessive, yet there's a good explanation for his actions regarding Hotaru. Every scene becomes perfect as soon as this piano background starts playing. Thank you for sharing this! 🫶🏻
