Induction annealer with latest version stepper driven case feeder.
Просмотров 19 тыс.3 года назад
My induction annealer is almost complete, still a couple of small tweaks but very close. The machine uses an MGNZ RevC Arduino Shield annealer board which controls the annealing cycles and the closed loop stepper driven case feeder. The board and details are available at www.mgnz-makes.com/ I have uploaded the STL files for the case feeder to thingiverse if you want to make your own: www.thingi...

Lee Collet die concentricity
Просмотров 4,6 тыс.3 года назад
After a lot of testing with different dies, I've found I get the best concentricity from a Redding Body die and a Lee collet die to size the neck. The graduations on the dial gauge on the tester is .01mm (or .0004", 4/10ths of a thou). 6.5 Creedmoor Hornady case, 130gr Berger VLD seated with a Redding competition seating die. It's a pretty good advertisement for the little Lyman Brass Smith pre...

    I am working on my build and noticed the indentions on the case feeder and on the bottom of the case pick up. Are those there for any particular purpose, like grub screws or something? I just want to get it right to start with! Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

    Hi there, can you send me a link to the carbine trimmer head? My brand new ‘trimmer’ takes 10+ seconds to trim each case. That basket and the case pilots are nice ideas too.

    Why there is no auto-mode available when switching through the modes with the mode button? I changed the microsteps in the arduino sketch to 1 because I'm using an open loop motor and an A4988 motor driver. I only can choose between one-shot-mode and free-run-mode.

      Matter of perspective. Firstly how many cases do you have to process? Then how much does your time cost? Then would you rather use combustible fuels that can burn your house down; that you can’t make yourself and require ventilation for their gaseous harmful byproducts? I can make my own electricity with solar voltaic or solar thermal power. I have thousand of casing to process. Even if I wanted to use a more conventional propane set up I’ve no room for the necessary volume of fuel storage.

    I ordered a board from Mark and have started making a few work coils. I will be annealing 6 Dasher, 284 Win and .223. Can you offer any info on your work coil? It appears to be a double coil (coil inside of another coil) with high temp insulation braid. I would be interested in the dimensions or any winding info you can offer. I'm not sure how to calculate the inductance of a coil wound that way.

  • @dniznick
    @dniznick 2 года назад

    Would there ever be a need to adjust the cartridge height on this build so it is centered in the coil correctly? Or does the size of the coil work for anything .223 on up to magnum size brass?

      This design has the ability to set case height so only the neck is in the induction field. If you look close while watching the video, you can see the height scale on the case of this unit.

    • @wombatordnance2972
      @wombatordnance2972 2 года назад

      I'll take a video and post it up in the next couple of weeks. It's very basic, it uses a PC cooling pump, tank and radiator. Coolant pumps through the coil, then the radiator and back to the coolant tank. I've just modified it again to use a header tank that's open to the atmosphere, I had an issue where it blew a hose off inside the case and the electronics didn't like it much. I am making another annealer for a mate shortly so can hopefully snap some video of the process.

    Would you mind sharing where you got your front panel from? Or do you happen to sell the panels yourself? I too am interested in your case dropper shelf. Would you by chance have a parts list? I've read over the annealer at MGNZ and want to make an annealer using that, but I really like your front panel and case dropper shelf, and your OLED screen! If you wouldn't mind sharing, that would be great!

    • @wombatordnance2972
      @wombatordnance2972 2 года назад

      I machined up the front panel then cerakoted it before engraving it in the milling machine. It's just a piece of 3mm aluminium plate. I've uploaded all of the files for the case feeder and dropper shelf to thingiverse. There are also a few remakes of the dropper shelf on thingiverse but I haven't tried any of them so see how they work. www.thingiverse.com/wombatordnance/designs

    I am going to try to undertake this project. Are you using a multi layer / multi turn work coil. Also, i'm hoping I can develop a case drop system like yours.

    • @wombatordnance2972
      @wombatordnance2972 2 года назад

      The coil I am using now is double wound, the inner coil is wound around a 24mm bar, the outer coil wound with a little clearance on the inner one. A total of 7 1/2 turns. It doesn't work any better than a single wound coil on most cases but is better on 6BR length cases because they can sit up properly into the coil. Not much science involved, more trial and error but it works very well.
