Shadows of the Empire - The Destruction of Xizor's Palace
The Destruction of Xizor's Palace - 10:45
The final track of this amazing soundtrack. The title and music pretty much speaks for itself. A showdown with Xizor, leader of Black Sun. Those who have played the games may recall a portion of this piece. Now you will be able to hear it in its entirety.

Shadows of the Empire - Into the Sewers
Просмотров 8 тыс.15 лет назад
Into the Sewers - 3:01 Some listening to this piece may note similarities to a atmospheric theme found in Return of the Jedi. But that is changed with a quick and definitive end. The short trip through the sewers is over. Its time to infiltrate XIzor's Palace.
Shadows of the Empire - Night Skies
Просмотров 17 тыс.15 лет назад
Night Skies - 4:23 As with many traditions in the Star Wars series, there is the tradition of pause and reflection. And it is in this time that music is often the greatest window into a characters mind. Here we revisit many of the themes in both the original Star Wars Trilogy and the themes which have been building throughout the Shadows of the Empire. The end is near.
Shadows of the Empire - The Seduction of Princess Leia
Просмотров 9 тыс.15 лет назад
The Seduction of Princess Leia - 3:43 Once again incorporating a mixture of his original style and working in the Star Wars themes, it is time for a little seductive music. But who would have ever thought that their captivation into seduction would be accompanied by a ballet waltz? In the end however, we once again have a powerful song that tells more than perhaps words could.
Shadows of the Empire - Xizor's Theme
Просмотров 67 тыс.15 лет назад
Xizor's Theme - 4:40 For a theme describing a villain, this song certainly branches off into various avenues. But everything it does is powerful and in my opinion one of the best pieces to appear in any Star Wars production, including the movies. Some may recall the last section of this song appearing in the game versions of Shadows of the Empire.
Shadows of the Empire - The Southern Underground
Просмотров 2,5 тыс.15 лет назад
The Southern Underground - 1:53 Working off his previous themes from 'Imperial City', Joel McNeely expresses a different view of Coruscant. A more secluded and shrouded environment, seemingly forgotten even by the Emperor himself. But not so forgotten that it is uninhabited.
Shadows of the Empire - Imperial City
Просмотров 12 тыс.15 лет назад
Imperial City - 8:08 Before Episode I-III and before any other composer had a chance to put an official theme to the city of the Empire, Joel McNeely was given a chance. And he painted a picture of powerful diversity, with vast halls that echo a nameless evil yet a thriving and beautiful megalopolis, with stunning beauty and culture.
Shadows of the Empire - Beggar's Canyon Chase
Просмотров 16 тыс.15 лет назад
Beggar's Canyon Chase - 3:01 Once again returning to a stable of the Star Wars franchise, the chase. But with an original take in execution and form. Many may remember the Swoop Chase from the video game rendition of Shadows of the Empire, but this song actually highlights a similar confrontation between Luke and a gang of Swoop Attackers.
Shadows of the Empire - The Battle of Gall
Просмотров 16 тыс.15 лет назад
The Battle of Gall - 8:03 What Star Wars production is complete without a good battle? And what battle is complete without a good score to support it? Shadows of the Empire begins with both.

Main Theme from Star Wars and Leia's Nightmare - 3:48 Here it is. The soundtrack to series of Star Wars novels named Shadows of the Empire. Often credited to the games of the same name. The symbolism of SOTE's cover was pretty straightforward - Luke stuck between Vader and Xizor, with the looming presence of Sidious on the backdrop. He's the grand overseer of galactic events, at a distance from the main action until Episode VI. But, 5 years later, there's so much more than that. Luke finds himself between 2 unemotional figures, Vader is hidden from the eye by his solemn mask, and Xizor has learned to control his emotions and gestures to perfection. As the reptilian Falleen have the ability to do. For separate reasons, both the 'villains' are intransingent, while Luke is the only one showing emotion, with an expression that screams 'uncertainty' and taking a battle stance. He is the clandestine presence in an underground arena of the Dark Side and political intrigue. Each man takes a different interest in Luke. But the rivalry between the 2, and Palpatine almost looking at the winner to be his definitive right hand, gives this layout an unexpected anxiety. Masterful

Xizor's theme is absolutely amazing, and dare I say on par with even John Williams themes. You can actually hear the malice, arrogance, flamboyancy and sexuality of the character, and it hits the nail right on the head. Simply outstanding. Damn you Disney for sorting this masterpiece out!

I used to listen to this soundtrack while reading the Darth Bane trilogy and for some reason, the part starting at 5:45 got imprinted in my head with the vision of Bane on Ciutric IV looking across the horizon. After all that he had been through, all that he'd overcome and achieved, for the first time he feels the effects of aging as a slight tremor in his hand... a weakness.

I owned this soundtrack before the prequels came out. I remember hearing this track as a kid and feeling that it did not at all sound like anything associated with the Empire. Thinking of musical themes such as those for Vader and the Emperor, I could not imagine this piece as being attributed to the center of their power. I always sounded to me more like a song that would be used in 1950's cinema for a scene in Egypt or something.

Joel McNeely should have been given a chance to breathe new life to the sequel trilogy soundtrack, and the Expanded Universe stories should have been used for the sequels. Sadly with Ms. Fisher passing, the chance is long gone. Also, world building was not existent in the new flicks. It is like the creativity started to erode with subsequent trilogies. RIP Lucasarts

    • @Bauglir100
      @Bauglir100 4 месяца назад

I'm sure John Williams could've given the Sequel Trilogy a fantastic score, but those movies just didn't leave a strong enough impression. The Original Trilogy introduced us to the Star Wars universe, the Prequel Trilogy expanded on it, but the Sequel Trilogy failed to offer anything to keep the interest of longtime fans. The story was a mess and the new locations were so hollow and empty, and the score sadly reflects that. It feels generic, like the themes could've been used for any Star Wars media. It'd be different if the Sequel Trilogy had been direct adaptations of the Thrawn Trilogy, Dark Empire, or the New Jedi Order books. But yeah, I'd definitely love to see Joel McNeely get hired to compose music for Star Wars again.

The first part is more of a tone poem, if you check out the liner notes from the album the composer Joel McNeely writes about how he wanted to write an unsettling trip through the Palace of Xizor, hearing the echoes of tortured prisoners in the cells below, passing through rooms filled with evidence of great horror but also paired with objects of great beauty (being an intellectual powerful yet ruthless villain).
