Funnily enough, I’ve actually had a similar experience Andrew! Had a trip to Haiti planned to visit sponsor kids, and I think it was the day before our flight out of Aus, the Gov. advice was ‘do not travel’ because of violent protests with their upcoming presidential election. Went anyway. Wild trip, saw some crazy stuff, best adventure!! 😆

I'm not sure why you're blaming that on the left I'm in progressive I've been a Democrat for over 30 years I raised four boys by myself and they're all men and every sense of the word two of them have children and their soft-hearted towards their children but they protect their family they work hard all of them do so what are you talking about there is no Democrat or progressive who is telling men to roll up into a ball and suck their thumb and not provide for their family not sure what you're talking about and their significant others do the same thing work hard test the family if you're lucky enough to have a partner that respects you and loves you then it's a group effort I'm not sure why you're trying to blame the left for telling men to have a heart and be good and don't treat women like second class citizens because my daughter-in-law's they would kick your ass for insulting your husbands for having sympathy for caring for people

I only think it is the other way around, and that you should learn to be a master of self control, then develop strength and capability to do things, and then when you have your power, use it well. When most people get power, they tend to easily let ego corrupt them and use it to do evil. If you don't let that happen you can use your strength to bring about a lot of good in the world.

Similarly I once heard him say you can’t be a ‘gentleman’ unless you have power to reign in and make being gentle something you choose to do through restraint

Very great points! Having purpose feels like an essential part of my being. One of my biggest struggles is when the work I'm tasked with does not feel like it's adding any positive contributions to the world. Just earning a paycheck does not give a feeling of fulfilling purpose.

Terrible advice

We did it with our 9 son's and 3 daughter's. Now that they have their children they know what to do. Not easy in a Postmodern Post-Christian day that was preceded by Modernity.

Raising difficult questions is possible getting an answer and keeping communication is the challenge after doing that.
