    Does the ported barrel make significantly more noise?

    • @RangeRoninChronicles
      @RangeRoninChronicles 4 часа назад

      Thanks for watching and for your question. More noise from the ported barrel? Not that I could tell at the range. Now, if it had a muzzle brake, a device post barrel exit, yes that contributes to more noise. Porting prior to post barrel exit? Not so much. Listen carefully during the range session. While any difference between the non-ported vs. ported barrel is minimal, muzzle flip is very noticeable with the non-ported barrel having more of it.

    Judging by the muzzle rise distance shown by the side wall of the range, the 627 muzzle rise appears to be about 40 to 50 percent less than the non-ported 66. Hmmm... I'd have to say that's quite impressive. I was going to buy a 608, but the 627 (except for one fewer round) appears to be a much better (and wiser) choice in all other specs. Thanks! Great video! (Sidenote to Taurus... what designer thought it would be classy and/or fashionable to plaster each side of the 627's barrel with those horrendously oversized font "Taurus" and "Tracker" engravings??? They remind me of seeing a brand new shiny rail car rolling down the tracks plastered with abundantly stupid spray painted graffiti! Knock it off, Taurus! Geez!))

      Thanks for watching and commenting. I have no idea regarding who is responsible for "bill boarding" (probably marketing types) and I sure agree with you; they distract from an otherwise great looking firearm. Excessive and overly-large use does not win me over. For years, Rock Island Armory has a huge "bill board" on the left side of their 1911 pistols. They finally saw the light and now have a simple, small logo at the rear of the slide, making for a much more pleasurable looking pistol. There are some markings that are required, but come on already! And, as you probably well know, Taurus is not the only firearm manufacturer guilty of this. Keep necessary markings discreet, please!

      Thanks for watching and commenting. I agree, what a shame! I prefer .45 Colt until, and have a Uberti 1858 and 1875 Remington reproduction for the .45 Colt. Then, I realize how much I just spent on shooting them. "Cowboy" loads, which are recommended, cost more than standard .45 Colt loads. At least with the 9mm version, I can enjoy shooting more for less costs, but still enjoy the handling and feeling of this "day of yore" revolver. Luckily, my Son-in-Law reloads .45 Colt and I get a break every now and then.

    • @RangeRoninChronicles

      @@happyhillbilly3466 I don't know if you had ever seen the "Harley Davidson and The Marlboro Man" movie with Mickey Rouke (Harley Davidson) and Don Johnson (The Marlboro Man). Don Johnson had somehow acquired a .454 Casull SA revolver. He could not hit the broadside of a barn with it and complained that every time he pulled off a round - that was $1.50. I just priced .454 Casull ammunition and found Precision One 454 Casull Ammunition 250 Grain XTP Jacketed Hollow Point 50 rounds at $59.99/box or $1.20/round. Of course, .45 Colt can be substituted. By contrast, FIOCCHI AMMO 45 COLT 250gr LRN FP-COWBOY ammo is going for $60/box of 50, or $1.39/round (tax and shipping not included). It cost more to shoot .45 Colt "Cowboy" loads than it does .454 Casull. Although I don't hunt, I do have bolt guns in .243, .270, .308, .30-30, .30-06, 7.62x54mm, and 7.62x39mm. Stocked up on ammo for those guns early on JIC (Just In Case). Ayup! I agree with the sad state of affairs in this country. It is going to take one hell of a leader to straighten this mess out, let alone the strength and courage of people to vote and also help steer us back to some resemblance of normalcy - if there ever is such a thing anymore. Now, it's more annoyance than normal.

    Great day at the range , you do shoot better one handed , the gun is designed to be shot with one hand just like Big Mike "The dualist shows" normally you'd be on horse mount shooting with one hand , GUY'S loads were NOT that hot in 1873 . @RangeRoninChronicles 2 дня назад

      Thanks for watching and for your comment. Actually, in the early days of the .45 Colt, velocities around 1,000 fps was not uncommon. The Army asked Colt to reduce the BP charge, because some of the soldiers could not handle the recoil (sound familiar with the 10mm?). Colt did reduce the charge after a few years, which was a reduction to 28- grains of black powder as compared to the previous 40-grain charge. After the reduction, 855 fps. became the normal standard. Good "Cowboy" loads these days make for shooting a very mild and pleasurable experience. I'll be putting the Blackhawk to the test at my outdoor range ringing steel. That really tells if I can shoot or not. "Dualist1954" is far more experienced than I when it comes to black powder revolvers, especially percussion revolvers. I have several Uberti percussion revolver reproductions and hope, at some point, to start a "Black Powder" series on the channel that will include reviews of single shot muzzle loaders (pistol and long gun of percussion and flint-lock varieties) and percussion revolvers. It is taking me quite a bit of time to get to that point, though. Not surprisingly, these firearms take up a substantial amount of time when shooting - especially when trying to video doing such. Hopefully, I will be able to pull it off. I stay quite busy just doing reviews of modern firearms. 1894, you say? That's 130 years ago, if my math is correct. Like my Grandmother and Great Grandmother, you know that they experienced and saw a lot, especially hard times. They would be totally baffled with what's going on today. But I think that we are as well. Strange times they be.

    You get caught staging a gun on KCMO police range and you get kicked of the range. Put simple, its cheating.

      Thanks for watching and commenting. Maybe so at KCMO. Still, it is a good method to practice for other than qualification day.

      @@RangeRoninChronicles From a legal stand point it is not good if it comes out in court. Opposing attorney will say if you had the time to stage the trigger then there was not that much of a threat.if you had the time to take to stage the trigger. I know more than one lawyer and most are Democrats and I tend to know their tricks to convince juries to find you at fault. Luckily in my medium sized midwest town the County Attorney talks to you before anything going to trial. Most of the time he finds that most shootings are done in legal self defense, so your case likely does not go before a court and jury. The case is over right there if it is justified.

      @@Rob-xj3xh Thanks for your thoughts. Staging a trigger is not a common practice; many do not know what it is. I consider "staging" as a pause in order to (1.) Determine if I need to take the shot, (2.) Allow me a window of opportunity to back off the trigger if need be, and (3.) If I must take the shot, the revolver is still in double-action mode and (hopefully) a more accurate shot can be taken, thus lessening possible collateral damage. An absolute no-no is placing a double-action revolver in single-action mode for defensive purposes; that screams premeditation. In most defensive uses involving a revolver, there is no time to stage a trigger and sometimes not even enough time to use the sights. It has been a fact of study that an untrained user of a handgun, revolver or pistol, will not squeeze the trigger - it is a jerking of the trigger in a panicked flash of time. I do agree with you on tricks used by a prosecuting attorney. Having representation and expert testimony, by those who are both well-versed in firearm's usage and aware of prosecutor's tactics, on one's side is critical for one's defense. Being a former LEO, I am not an expert but am somewhat knowledgeable regarding the criminal justice system. What is best is not getting into a situation that will result in being involved in that system; it is a nightmare.

  • @Rob-xj3xh
    @Rob-xj3xh 3 дня назад

    Look for police trade ins. The vast majority of LE officers do not take care of their sidearms and tend to only shoot them when forced to qualify. Some cleaning or send off to the factory and you usually get a workable gun and cheap.

      Thank you very much for watching, commenting, and especially...subscribing. I wholeheartedly agree that the transfer bar safety and loading gate operation is a great improvement over the standard way of loading, over a Colt SAA or clone; much safer to do. There is some perverse pleasure and satisfaction in doing it the "Cowboy" way, however.😁

    You may want to go back and replace the OEM slide lock. And, less limp wristing.

    • @RangeRoninChronicles
      @RangeRoninChronicles 3 дня назад

      Thanks for watching. The slide lock has been replaced. Limp wristing was not the issue. The angle of my wrist to the pistol was; it allows too much flexibility in my wrist. My shooting hand wrist needs to be more in-line with the slide of the pistol. I also have a never-healed broken clavicle, which makes it difficult to extend my arm fully forward without discomfort. I don't have issues with my other Glock pistols with longer grips to include my G26 or G27.

      @Bill-jv5eg Until the guidelines get tighter and all gun content is removed. But there are written guidelines and the unwritten ones so they can arbitrarily shut down videos or channels whenever they want when no rules were broken. They are doing that right now to video comments by arbitrary deletion when there are no violations. "I pretty sure you should be fine…." You are very optimistic and give them too much credit that they will honor their written guidelines that has been proven that they don't.

    Because of the new RUclips sponsor restrictions, a lot of gun channels to be able to afford and provide content rely on sponsors that are now being restricted on RUclips so many gun channels are now moving to Rumble where they are not restricted by censorship. Its not just gun channels. Lots of channels are being negatively impacted by sponsor restrictions and are moving to Rumble. We are seeing and I have noticed that there are very few new videos being uploaded to RUclips now. RUclips content is drying up and the platform is losing the volume of viewer traffic it has always enjoyed because of its restrictions of censorship. Rumble will replace RUclips as Rumble viewer traffic volume increases and RUclips viewer traffic volume decreases.

    • @RangeRoninChronicles
      @RangeRoninChronicles 5 дней назад

      Thanks for watching and commenting. You are very correct about RUclips and their restrictions. This channel is not sponsored and I prefer to keep it that way. I do have a Rumble channel, but have been trying to keep content here. I will be, however, slowly copying content to my Rumble channel. I have not been affected by RUclips restrictions, as yet. Hickok45 recently published a video addressing the impact on his channel and the risk of loosing the channel altogether. His channel, and others like his, are heavily sponsored; published and sponsored videos may disappear without notice by RUclips, monetization may be removed. I am hoping that, because this channel is not sponsored nor monetized, it will not be affected. As long as I stay within the guidelines, maybe I'll be okay - but who knows.
