A Personal Journal of my Firearm Journeys!

Добавлен 12 окт 2021
These are my personal experiences with firearms. Here you will view informative gun (and sometimes gear) reviews that are a bit different than others and, hopefully, somewhat entertaining. I prefer to tell a story, a documentary of sorts, and I hope that you enjoy what I am doing and keep coming back.
Springfield Armory XDE - At The Range

Special Presentation: The Eleventh Hour - The Day a Nation Cried!
I’m in the market for a Mark IV 22 pistol but trying to decide between barrel length 5.5” vs 6.88”. Did you notice much accuracy difference between the two size barrels on the Target vs Hunter?
Thanks for watching and for your question. No, I did not observe any vast difference between the two. The competition model may prove different but I don't have one for comparison. I think that you can expect excellent performance out of any of the MKIV series.
Thank you for the info! Great content! I’m looking forward to getting a Ruger Mark IV
I have Ruger BH’s in both 45 colt and .357 along with like caliber Vaquero’s. Love how the single actions just sort of slow the process down a bit. Thanks for a great video and for sharing it.
👍👍🇺🇸
Good to see you once again, my friend!
Springfield Armory makes solid guns, I have an XDS mod2, with grip safety, which I like . Very accurate , a little snappy, but that it to be expected on a small frame gun, Nice review
Thanks for watching and commenting. I also have several XDS models (9mm and .45 ACP). They are actually made in Croatia under contract with Springfield Armory. All the striker-fired series is manufactured by HS Produkt in Karlovac, Croatia.
@ it’s better than I thought it would be
@@Bill-jv5eg It turned out to be an excellent little shooter. Actually, I was surprised. Too bad it was short-lived, though. Not enough sold, I guess, with striker-fired pistols blanketing the market.
Out of curiosity, do you know if Smith & Wesson ever made any of the Model 25 revolvers chambered in .45 Colt with shorter barrels, such as 3 or 3.5 inches?
Thanks for watching and for your question. No, Smith & Wesson did not produce a 3-inch or 3.5-inch Model 25 - in any caliber.
@@RangeRoninChronicles Thanks for the reply. The reason that I asked was because always liked the look of the Smith & Wesson Model 27 with a 3.5 inch barrel.
This model is now available in CA
Thanks for watching and for the information. I have pinned your comment so that it will appear on top of other comments.
Do you encounter a lot of leading when shooting cast? If so what sort of cleaning works best?
Thanks for watching and for your question. Because of the low velocities of the "Cowboy" loads, leading has not been an issue. With that said, the revolver is cleaned thoroughly after each range session - using standard cleaning tools and products - with the addition of using Wilson Combat Lead Remover for the face of the cylinder and forcing cone area. But, I use that product on all of my revolvers. Letting the cylinder soak for a bit with the lead remover and light brushing with a soft brass brush usually does the job of removing lead deposits in those areas. The barrel is scrubbed with the usual Hoppe's No. 9.
👍👍🇺🇸
I appreciate that and the fact that you are my number one viewer and follower!
Is this gun California compliant??
Thanks for watching and for your question. There is no indication of state compliance in RIA specifications for the pistol. However, a list of handguns for sale in California is available through the State of California Department of Justice Attorney General website. Here is the link to the list - oag.ca.gov/firearms/certified-handguns/search.
I carry a G26 Gen5 with a Holosun EPS red dot and a Henning group +3rd base plat and a Strike industries +2 rd base plate and a Xgrip on my G19 magazine. I carry Federal HST 124gr jhp’s in it.
Thanks for watching and commenting. It appears like you have a great combination.
Good review. I am deciding between the M66 and Tracker. The port turns me off because it may be hard to clean and have too much flash at night.
For our 1872 Open Top I down load .45 Colt to a 220 gr bullet at 900 fps max, using Hodgdon CFE powder for just under 11000 psi chamber pressure. roughly 45 ACP power. The 1872 Open Top design is based off the 1860 Colt Army .44, and I feel the weaker "wedge-thru-base-pin-slot" Open Top design would loosen up firing a standard .45 Colt load duplicating the original 40 gr black powder, 255 gr bullet load (1000 fps).
Thanks for watching and commenting. Sounds like a good plan to me. I'll pass it on to my Son-in-Law, as he does a log of reloading for me, but I normally shoot factory "Cowboy" loads (somewhere around 850 fps). All I need is enough power to punch holes in paper or ring a steel target.
I like my stainless 3. Sure has a better trigger than my old 1.
I appreciate your watching and commenting. I'll be pulling the optic off of my MKIII 22/45 and putting it one this one. And you are are right, the trigger on later models were far better than the MK1.
Sir Ronin, Very, very , nice review. Just today I found this exact Firearm in my local shop. I was able to handle the Model 36 and also the Model 30 was there. I really felt the single stack Model 36 was a much better feel for my hands. Also I was glad to find out the no generation tag for this 36 although they added a rail as you indicated and the Model today had that rail. I am always looking forward to your clips. Be well
Thank you. I appreciate your watching and kind words. I have both the G36 and G30. Sometimes, I favor one over the other depending on how I am feeling that day about packing one or the other. Some days I just need more handle to hold, but the "pinky hanger" magazine extension does make a difference in holding the G36 and kinda-sorta balances things out between the two. Both the G36 and G30, to me, make for a good self-defense handgun, but I have to say that the G41 with a Holosun optic made the cut for the home-defense pistol.
Too much talk.I know, it's RUclips.I know you're making a video, but my God, it's a pistol. It's a revolver buy it or don't buy it.
Thanks you for your enlightening comment. Did I mention that my videos are records of my personal involvement with firearms that I share with others. There are other channels that may fit your needs better, and I invite you to watch them and also share your enlightening comments with them. Have a great day!
Now that is a nice looking single action revolver. Excellent presentation Range Ronin.
Thank you. I appreciate that. The "Gaucho" surprised me; I didn't think that it would be as quality a firearm as it is. Very pleasantly surprised, to say the least. Too bad the "Gaucho" is no longer available, but the "Deputy" is, in .45 Colt and .357 magnum, but with shorter barrel lengths.
👍👍🇺🇸
Thank you, my friend!
Great video ,Much Appreciated!
Thank you! I appreciate you being here and commenting. Both mean quite a lot.😁
Great Review! Those Ruger MkIVs are amazing pistols.
Thank you! I appreciate your watching and commenting. I agree with you. The MKIV pistols proved that Ruger was not tone-deaf to its customer base. Compared to the MKIII and earlier, I only have kind words for the MKIV(s).
@@RangeRoninChronicles No problem! That's one thing I like about Ruger; they listen really well, and deliver.
@@Jasta10_Flieger They also, as I have found, have excellent customer service; that counts a lot.
Glock 26 is in the top 3 of ccw of all time.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. I appreciate both. Personally, I would like a G26-length barrel on a G19 frame, as I need more handle to hold than the G26 offers. I feel the same about the G36 and G27. Excellent pistols but not enough grip length for me. Magazine extensions do help though.
An outstanding presentation 👏 I would recommend separate targets for each handgun and each type of ammo.
Thanks for watching and your input. I appreciate both. You are right, I should have used two shoot-n-see targets, but did not have them at the time.
Well produced video and it covered a couple of revolvers I have been considering. Thanks.
I appreciate you stopping by and taking part in this madness of mine. I am sure that the choice you make will be right for you. Enjoy whichever you select.😁
Thank you. It was a nice review. The other two obvious options are the bread of PX for storm and the HKP 30 both of these guns were designed from day one for 40 Smith and Wesson.
Thanks for the input. I knew about the PX4 Storm and have been wanting one. The HK P30 I am not familiar with. I'll have to check that one out. I appreciate you watching and commenting.😁
@@RangeRoninChronicles VERY few handguns where designed from the ground up for 40S&W. Glock before the Gen5 and the Beretta 96 where just modified 9mm designs of they have a history of failing it seems. 40S&W has fallen to of vogue but I think it is the best self-defense combat, handgun, caliber we have to date. It obviously has two problems. The first being the FBI, deciding to abandon it, and said the direction for law enforcement. And secondly, very little attention has gone into designing handguns to mitigate the recoil. The HK P30 is notably sharper than the PX4 storm. It is my belief that the FBI could've maintained 40 Smith and Wesson if they had chosen to shoot the PX4 storm. The Beretta 96A1 and the PX4 storm have notably milder recoil than other handguns chambered in 40 Smith and Wesson. What is leading to the demise of the 40 Smith & Wesson beyond the FBI, is the belief by most people that they should shoot striker fired handguns as none of them have been designed with lock work other than a modified browning system. Don't get me wrong, I think that Glocks are fine guns. But I put the 1911 in the Glock both in the same category. Neither is a state of the art design, but both have their strengths. and I see that as a person who cut his teeth in his carried a 45 caliber 1911 for most of his life. I believe the Beretta 96A1 and the PX4 storm in 40S&W and the HK P30S in 40S&W represent the most compelling handguns to date.
Great shooting! Excellent handgun! Awesome video! Thank you for the education!
I appreciate you watching and commenting. I try to be as complete with my reviews as possible yet try to keep them as short as I can. Some firearms, Like the Smith 67 just deserve more attention.
That's just about how my target looked after my range session today with my Stainless ll
Thanks for watching and commenting. Both are appreciated. I hope you spend more time with yours than I do with mine. Doing these reviews keep me away from some of the guns I really like to shoot.
👍👍🇺🇸
Thank you very much, you kind person you!😁
I bought a Mark IV earlier this year, love it , mine has the wooden grips, I added a rail and red dot, plus an upgraded trigger. I shoot it in indoor Bull Eye league. No issues as I did have problems with an older High Standard, traded that gun off. Great review
Thanks for contributing once again. While the early 'MK" Ruger pistols were fine guns, if you did not master the assembly of them, they could be quite the contentious one. When Ruger upgraded the MKIV, it really turned things around for Ruger and the "MK" series and for the average person shooting and maintaining them. I found the Smith & Wesson "Victory" pistol ammunition sensitive. Not so with the MKIV. I may add an optic on this one. I haven't decided to scope it or simply add a red (green) dot optic on it.
@ I first added a front fiber, but the dot really made a big difference with my older eyes😳. I agree the older Mark models were a nightmare to reassemble …glad I waited.
@@Bill-jv5eg I am glad I waited as well. In fact, I bought the Smith & Wesson Victory, with it's ease of disassembly/assembly before the Ruger MKIV was introduced. Since then, the "Victory" has become a safe queen; it may bring a dollar, or two, when I decide to sell it.
Good video thanks. I just bought this gun you showed. Where can I get the same grips. I like them
@@Leebeaux1 Thanks for the kind words. This grip, among others, were purchased from The Altamont Company; they have several grips like this one you might like. Go to: www.altamontco.com/pistol-grips/ruger/mark4
G.A.S. Now that’s funny because I am afflicted with that also. .380, 9, and the .45. Love um. I own a G30. Gen 3. Best shooter of the lot. Thanks for all your videos and observations of these beautiful machines. Thanks again
Thanks for taking part in this madness of mine. I really appreciate it. Of the .45 ACP Glock pistols that I have, the G30 is my favorite, but the G41 (with optic) is now serving as one of the home-defense pistols.
My favorite target pistols the Ruger Mk's, had a MKII blued finish with slab side 6 inch barrel. It was topped with a Leupold 2x handgun scope because I wanted to use it to dispatch little varmints on a hillside property. Yes, I did take it apart to clean it, was cussing up a storm trying to put it back together so went back to the gun shop, the owner was laughing and said here let me show how it's done. I was so happy afterwards it was a huge relief knowing that the MKII can be used again. I did purchase a MKIV recently and love how easily it is to take apart. Range Ronin excellent presentation bud it was fun to watch.
Thanks for being with me once again. I still have the MKIII 22/45, and still utter a few expletives when I re-assemble it after cleaning. The 22/45, and the mounted optic, pretty much sits in the safe and gather dust while the MKiVs (Target and Hunter) find themselves enjoying a day at the range for fun plinking. I kind of feel bad for the 22/45...no I don't.😁
Thank you sir. One of the best videos I have ever seen. No bull just straight tell it like it is.

Don't blame Uberti for the folding hammer-block safety! Has to be there to satisfy import requirements by our good ol' government. The Uberti Colt-style conversions have the same type of safety. I suggest loc-titing them in the closed position because they have been known to fold open while shooting. FYI those markings on the cylinder are Italian proof marks.
Thanks for watching and commenting. I don't blame Uberti, nor mind how they included the safety. I prefer it over some of the safeties I have seen mounted on some SA revolvers. Uberti did it discreetly and I like that. I knew the markings were proof marks...just don't know what they mean.
My, what a thorough review!
Thank you for watching and commenting. Both are greatly appreciated.
My wife and I each have the TPR9C preferring the DA/SA operating system and the ambidextrous controls are not to be overlooked. We like that either of us can grab one of them and be totally familiar with it. Have never looked back after this choice.
Some folks have issues with that long DA pull of the trigger; more so with the transition from DA to SA. But with practice, it becomes second nature over time.
Awesome explanation of this gun for a newbee

Thanks, once again for being here.
I’ve never shot RIA handgun, but I’m not a fan of smaller pistols, harder to shoot with limited grip size. Nice video, but I’ll pass on this gun.
Thanks for commenting. It is a small pistol, for sure. You would like the full-size RIA pistols.
I've been thinking about the 45ACP version of this!
Thanks for watching and commenting. You would like the .45 version, or even the 9mm version. Check out the "Ultra" series.
Hermosa pistola
Gracias por ver y comentar. ¡Sí, es un arma hermosa!
That RIA pistol reminds me of the Astra A70, wood grips would look nice on that pistola. Excellent vid Range Ronin!
Thanks for watching, commenting, and being with me again!
Howdy! Love your Rock Island Armory videos. Not Colts perhaps, but they are awesome regardless. Keep on keeping on!
I appreciate your viewing and commenting. Both mean a lot!
Fascinating video.
I bought a M200 earlier this year. Absolutely love it. Shoots well and looks decent, for it's very affordable price. Wish I could say it's as sweet as my S&W Model 15- 6 Combat Masterpiece, buts it's in a good 2nd place! My son shot the M200 at the range and decide wants it more than his Taurus 9mm, so he's getting ready to order from RIA soon.
Thanks for watching and commenting. The M200 would make a good service revolver. Shop around to get the best price possible; beat the MSRP whenever you can😁.
I prefer the Blackhawk , it’s the adjustable sights that makes it a winner for me.
Good morning! Good to from you again. I agree, the adjustable sights do give the Blackhawk the advantage over the Vaquero. I also like the weight of the Blackhawk. I have two in .357 magnum that I'll get around to reviewing one of these days.
👍👍🇺🇸
Many thanks, once again!
I still want a single action revolver Ruger Vaquero my friend. Your shots are accurate as well. Where is that range with all those targets ? Excellent video Range Ronin. Gor to hit the sack, will finish watching in the morning with coffee 😊
Thanks for being here again. I took your advice and got some rest. I was up 'til 0200 hours last night working on a new review. You would like the Vaquero. If the darn things weren't so expensive, I would like the Bisley model. The range is located inside the Charlie Elliot Wildlife Center, which is located a couple of miles below Mansfield, Georgia. They have four ranges: shotgun (skeet, trap), rifle, pistol, and archery. A well-maintained facility by the State.
@RangeRoninChronicles that range is well maintained for sure
