Dostoyevsky was a larger-than-life character who lived through more than what seemed possible in one lifetime. And as a result, we have all from Crime and Punishment to The Brothers Karamazov to enjoy.

It's not that the usual classic recommendations are bad books, not by any means. But when you start reading classic literature, try not to kill any excitement you may have by picking something too difficult or something that requires analysis to really understand.

This is the somewhat controversial take of the philosopher Peter Singer. These thoughts do not reflect my own, but is part of a philosophy series exploring ideas.

This philosophy, absurdism, was popularized by the French philosopher and writer Albert Camus and has been echoed by great writers and philosophers since. Even someone like Franz Kafka, who's known for his surreal story telling that somehow feels so true, has his roots in absurdism. Don't ask why, ask why not.

In Fyodor Dostoyevsky's magnum opus, The Brothers Karamazov, he gave us the short story of The Grand Inquisitor which has been a catalyst for theological discourse since its' conception.
