Sowilo Media was established in 2010 by Michael Victor AKA Dev (that’s me) primarily as a label/brand to promote my band(s) and footage of events/gigs I put on in London. Since then, and after the sad passing of way too many friends, I’ve decided to expand the channel and include wider content, drawing from my time in this mortal coil; life is short, time’s running out. I think it’s human to want to leave some kind of footprint that shows you were here and did some shit. As my first loves were music and film, publishing on RUclips is probably more interesting for an audience and definitely more accessible than a book.
What can you expect from the channel?
On top of the legacy videos, I'll be uploading more vids of bands I've been involved in, alongside a mixed bag of stuff that I have either loved or been inspired by along the way, accompanied by a back-story in the description panel.
I hope you'll enjoy a few of my memories; you never know, there may be a few of yours here too!

One of the first CTRL gigs - this video is dear to us as it includes our friend Pete Heigl (RIP) on the kit. His instrument was the acoustic guitar, of which he was a master, but it shows the mark of the man that, even though he was ill and it caused him considerable pain, he helped us out on drums because we wanted to get CTRL on the road. It reads very similar to a version I transcribed many years ago.... I think I have about 6 or 7 alternative translations, lol, each of which provides a slightly different seasoning to the dish. There's some lines we'll have to agree to disagree on mate, especially "in ten years time watching" which is "and (or "it's") then you start watching" and "let it be so" which is "buried in stone"

Some of your transcriptions fit the prosody of the song very well and open up interpretations which I had not thought of before! I wish I had better audio engineering skills to analyze the three Joy Division versions of this song. I was about to echo what @SowiloMedia said regarding the phrase "in ten years time watching" and say that I hear "and then you start watching". But now, I'm not sure anymore. It seems whatever one expects to hear is what one hears when voice is so mangled...

Thanks for your comments... I am sure they aren't correct, but it is an interpretation based on the manc accent, Ian's writing style and the reasonably established presumption that it was written for his wife.... Alongside the Stephen Morris vocal version that was the original transcription before New Order did a rewrite prior to recording it. Oddly, I'm definitely not sure about the two lines "...this sinking ship, kept ashore, withheld the waves..." - it's not really Ian Curtis' style. Cheers :-)

I posted them initially, then decided to delete them. Basically, I believe it should be a song where people hear what they want to hear. I know it sounds like romantic claptrap, but that way it's not just a parting 'gift' to his wife, but to all of us ;-) I will post a link to the CTRL live version of the song here, once I have added the lyrics, and then, should you wish, you can read my version.

It's an excerpt from a "hypnotic reversion" tape that Bernard recorded with Ian to try and help him, not long after he swallowed a load of pills.

It quite possibly doesn't Neal. I just did it to look at the recording from another angle, if you like. I'm posting a recording of my bands version later today - I try to fuse the character of Ian Curtis' voice with my own. It obviously ain't Joy Division by any stretch; but the idea was to get a good quality live version out there in their style, rather than New Orders or an individual interpretation. Give it a listen if you get a chance.

Amazing version. I'm a huge fan of Sol Invictus, but I think in this case Tor Lundvall harnessed the power of the track a lot better. Sol Invictus version is fine, but I suppose the jazzy arrangement is a bit too cheery for such a depressing lyric! I only wish someone did the same for Abattoirs of Love! None of the Sol Invictus versions reaches the musical heights of those lyrics. P.S. Nice job on the visuals, I really dig Tor Lundvall's paintings!
