I am Sam and I am 40. I often think back twenty years of my life. How quickly it all went, especially my last ten years. The next twenty years will be even quicker. So, why start my life at 60 when I can start at 40? It was time for me to get off the hamster wheel and cycle the world, look for adventure, to be free and to live.
Cycling Kyushu Japan
In October, 2023, I took the ferry from Busan to Shimonoseki to ride around Kyushu in southern Japan. It took 15 days to ride 1200 km in a clockwise direction. I wild camped most night and prepared most of my meals. I even packed a $4 telescopic fishing rod from Daiso since I was cycling along the coast.

Jinhae Cherry Blossom Hike
Просмотров 211Год назад
The bus to Jinhae Gyeongwha Markets took about an hour from Busan Seobu Station in Sasang. From there we got on a local bus #317 to Naengcheon Middle School and caught up with the Ulsan Unistars at Cheongryong Temple. We started the steep hike up to Ungsan Ridge around 10:30am, had a long lunch break at the peak at around 12:30pm and arrived at Gyeongwha Station cherry blossom rail line at arou...

Building a Rocket Hot Tub

Dragged a very heavy cast iron bath tub down to my forest and built a rocket hot tub using salvaged building materials. Cooked pork roast in my dutch oven and washed it down with my own Bavarian Pilsener.
My 14 day Hotel Quarantine in Melbourne
Просмотров 2,3 тыс.4 года назад
flew back to Australia after being stranded in Poland for two months during my European cycling trip. Due to the pandemic I never made it to Norway. Instead of my Nordic adventures, I was detained upon my arrival at Melbourne airport. This is my story of the mandatory two week quarantine.
Slow Boat to Thailand
Просмотров 514 года назад
After 8 nights in Luang Prabang and food poisoning towards the end of my stay, I hopped on to a long boat on the outskirts of Luang Prabang. The journey took two full days with a stopover in Pak Beng, a small village on the banks of Mekong River. I paid 290,000 kip at a guesthouse I was staying in Luang Prabang. There was no need to book accommodation in advance in Pak Beng as there were plenty...
Summit to the Sea

On a sunny November afternoon, I decided to pack my campervan and head to Southwest National Park. On the way, I stopped over at Hartz National Park to hike up some snowy trails. From the summit I head down to the sea, where I spend a week kayak fishing and camping in the national park.
Backyard Forest BBQ Night in Tasmania

After travelling around southeast Asia mostly on seafood, chicken and pork, it was great to come home to some Aussie beef. Nothing beats the intense complete searing of steak on Tasmanian blue gum (eucalyptus) charcoal with a tinnie of VB.
Vang Vieng Tubing
Просмотров 5605 лет назад
The infamous tubing in Vang Vieng used to attract party animals mostly from Australia. It all changed in 2011, when there were 27 deaths from young travellers either drowning or cracking heads on submerged boulders as they dived from high dive platforms. Since then, the government reduced the number of bars along the river. The party animals have long gone and are replaced with a more subdued y...

Highlights from my cycling trip from Hamburg, Germany to Almaty, Kazakhstan. The 8200 km journey covered 14 countries and took 8 months. I had a long break in Tbilisi, Georgia and then crossed Azerbaijan to take the ferry over the Caspian Sea to Kazakhstan and a long train ride across the Aral Sea region.
Arriving in Istanbul on my Bicycle
Просмотров 555 лет назад
It took me exactly 100 days to reach Istanbul after setting off on my bicycle from Hamburg in Germany. The total distance covered was 3802 km. After enduring freezing conditions in Romania, I was looking forward to warmer weather. Arriving in Istanbul provided me with just that and the food to go along with it. I spent a week taking it easy, often taking in the atmosphere around bazaars and mos...
Cold river trekking in Achimgari Valley, Korea
Просмотров 1295 лет назад
Hidden deep in the valleys of Bangtaesan mountain in Inje, Gangwon-do province, lies the cold waters of "Achimgari". In the summer it is a great way to escape the city and the summer heat. When I first trekked Achimgari with Climbing in Korea eight years ago, the place was less known and the trails and the crystal clear waters were almost undisturbed. Now it is one big water park for masses of ...
CIK Cheongnyansan 2019

I joined the CIK Korea 100 summit challenge to Cheongnyang mountain, near Andong in Gyeonsanbuk-do. I hiked the multiple peak trail, including Gyeongin-bong, Jaso-bong, Yeonjeok-bong and over the cloud bridge to Jangin-bong at 870 m elevation. The Cheongnyangsa temple had a nice peaceful feel to it, despite the large and noisy crowds.

Hallo dari indonesia❤❤❤❤
Hello my friend! I’m glad that you started Cycling again and doing great long adventure trips! It is nice to know that you are Ok. By the videos you look happy and very calm when you are fishing. The globe is round and maybe we meet again in this life. Keep doing whatever makes you happy, because life is just too short!
Thank you!
Hey Sam. Great video! Thanks for sharing. I am planning a bike tour in Japan for 2024. I just turned 60 this year and you are correct the next 20 years will go very quick. I have decided to retire this year. Congrats on being able to retire at 40….ENJOY!

the Tears of a Dreamcatcher are Precious , in the Season of the Cherry Blossom 🌸 , the fall of the Cherry Blossom Petals 🌸, is as the fall of the tears of the Dreamcatcher " , catch the petal , catch the tear , catch the Dream and make a wish . when it's Fate , there is no coincidence
very well made

Hello from România! I hope that you are safe! All the borders are closed now.. 😥
All good! Currently taking a break in Warsaw!
Sam Lee so you are still in Poland? It is good that you are safe. I stay at home with my family in this time. We are allowed just to go shopping or go to work for now.
She Didn't look too well afterwards... Barely survived
Nice ride! Maybe I’ll join you in another road trip!
I'd be asking for my money back...that wasn't Vang Vieng where you were at 🙄

Hi! I'll go to Gwangju soon to study and I'll be there for one year... I want to buy a bike, a fixie, but I wonder if there are cycling roads in Gwangju. Could you give me your comments?
Hi Juan! It is best to join a gwangju second hand group on facebook or the one in Seoul. You can buy second hand bikes in Seoul and take it on any buses from Seoul to Gwangju for free :)
Nice vid Sam
Thanks Camo! ^^
Did you use the live bait to catch the flattie mate?
I sure did!
Wouldn't be putting my fingers anywhere that mouth dude....those gill spikes are NASTY
Nice video. What size is your Kona? 52cm or 54cm? I am planning to get one but I am not sure between 52 or 54. My height is 5'8".
Amazing scenery! Must have pretty tough going uphill in that heat.
Great choice of bike. I have exactly the same model. Must have been a great trip. Are there more videos from this trip?
It was great except for the summer holiday traffic and heat! Next time I will set off late winter/early spring. Yes more to come!
@@slee26oct Yeah, I can understand that. I drove through Italy two years ago in June/July and the traffic was horrible. And incredibly hot. I would like to tour Italy someday in the future, but I think i would probably go in October. By the way, have you seen my videos?
@@BikeTouringMike Just checked your Prague to Vienna video! I will be doing this in May next year from Vienna!
@@slee26oct That's great. I can really recommend this route and the whole Czech Republic as a bicycle tour destination. Everything is well signed, and you can be away from traffic for hours sometimes. My #1 tip is to go to mapy.cz or download the app when you do your planning for the trip. There you can easily find all the cycle routes plotted on a map.
@@BikeTouringMike Thanks for the tip! I am also looking forward to Czech beers!
