From a former season of life, but still beautiful nonetheless… I hope everyone is finding peace in this time of chaos. I hope you're reading books you love, planting food you can't wait to eat, and spending some much needed time with your families. Life is definitely different right now and being a healthcare worker in a family of healthcare workers, we're all a little more stressed than usual....

Thank you so much for the update. I am looking forward to seeing your next one. 💜
You got a lot done. Great progress. I was wondering how you were doing so it’s great to hear from you. 😊😊
Thank you!! It’s a huge relief to finally see stuff happening!
What kind of berries are those that you picked? I’m not familiar with them. I don’t think we have them in Australia. 😊😊
They are autumn olives! They’re technically invasive but they taste great and put nitrogen back into the soil so we’re letting them live… for now 🤣
I live in eastern VA and we don’t have berries like that here. Are they edible? It’s nice seeing a local video with trees still green.
Yes they are edible! Even the seeds are so my toddler eats them by the handful! Thank you for being here 🫶🏻
Just beautiful I would leave the house the way it is
Wow so blessed
Not river or field rock on the kitchen floor. Instead I see brick floor in the kitchen. I love the oak floors.
Funny story, I actually just learned that the river rock thing is illegal so I won’t be doing that 😅 and my husband vetoed brick, so we might just be doing oak flooring. I guess we’ll see!
@@mistyhollowcottage this vlogger has brick floors in her kitchen and living areas. I just thought this might be worth you both visiting as part of your research. youtube.com/@xomacennavlogs?si=1nMVgffE5-OBzsbN
Yay! I do love the new layout plan. ❤❤❤
How exciting!
Ignore Tom and be yourself! 😍
Carpet is the cheapest flooring option after painting/staining floors and area rugs found at estate sales/thrifting etc. If it's a kids space you might regret Carpet unless you actually don't allow food, drink, paint supplies/craft supplies etc to ever be in there. Wood in a bathroom can be an issue if not ventilated properly. Tile or there are now PVC pannels that are cheaper but look like tile are pretty good for durability. I've renovated 4 and now on my 5th house so i know but still am learning all the newer products available Tom just can't keep up. You just speak quickly bur you're new to this. That will get better with time. Gotta ignore non-positive comments.
Yuck! No way. Carpet is disgusting stuff. Plus it would not suit the style design. I see brick floor with machine washable rag rugs.
Would love to know how you found such a lovely property ❤
Zillow! We actually almost didn’t go look at this property because it was pictured horribly, but we went to go look at another property close by and decided to stop by this one while we were out and we fell in love!
New Subscriber Beautiful property..Ty for sharing
It's so lovely where you are! My cats had fleas once and it was terrible. The answer was table salt, LOTS of it. I bought eight cannisters of the store brand stuff. You are supposed to cover the entire rug ( or floor, I believe) with it. I did it heavily; 4 cannisters. I made sure that it got into the areas along the baseboards. It is supposed to stay I think 3 to 4 days, but I let it sit for a week sort of annoying, but at the end of a week I vacuumed it up really well, and did it again! End of fleas. Someone told me they thought it wouldn't work because the fleas couldn't ingest the salt that itwas too big, and I had to explain it they're not ingesting it. Is killing any fleas or eggs from the outside. Flea eggs can lie dormant for 100 years in nature!
That’s crazy! I think my kids would be licking salt off the floor 🤣 but that’s a super neat trick!
@@mistyhollowcottage yeah, mine didn't want to eat it. Only plants, fake plants of any kind, and my boy thought ribbon was yummy. I got some diatomaceous earth but did not like some of the cautions. I will say that sometimes getting rid of carpeting is the best.💜
Your view is amazing! Do you rent out the other house on your property?
It’s unfortunately a tear down! The foundation is no good, they tried to dig out the basement previously and now it’s folding in on itself, so we will have to deal with it in the future.
So who lives in the main house that you own? Can’t wait to see the updates. Congratulations
No one! It’s a tear down unfortunately. It’s in a pretty sorry state. I plan to post a tour of that in the future! Thanks!
@@mistyhollowcottage oh wow. Okay , look forward to it:) too bad you could not stay there while renovating. Would probably make it easier on your family.
Probably a bit late but you should contact Gemma wheeler architecture, she has a you tube channel and is amazing at reconfiguring small spaces.
Hall Barbara Williams Frank Rodriguez Nancy
Can you please adopt me, I wana live there too, its beautiful.
I just wonder if the bathroom is in the right place. since you will be leveling the floor in the primary bedroom, I think the previous laundry room could be expanded into the bedroom or future kitchen area (or a little of both) and become a combo bathroom with builtin stackable washer/dryer in a closet. would open up the front room into a simple square making it brighter and much more usable. you will have plenty of room in the kitchen for the eat in nook you are wanting.
Young lady, the Way your video your banana bread I cannot see what’s in the bowl. I love Zach Bryan too.❤
Sorry! I’m filming on an iPhone and my tripod was a stack of sure jell 🤣 I’ll have to get some better equipment in the future!
Those windows are really pretty
I've thought of starting a channel, but don't know if I can deal with the inevitable obnoxious comments LOL I think you should just do what makes you happy. A channel with variety is interesting in my opinion. Best wishes!
Younger me would have been devastated if someone said something obnoxious or mean, now it’s comedy gold and becomes a funny inside joke for my husband and I 🤣 plus, so far all of the kind/helpful comments far outweigh the rest. I truly believe people are generally good! Thank you!
Amazing property. Little piece of heaven. I have friends that have been looking for property in WVA. What advice do you have for locating property in your area? Thank you so much.
Check out the properties you don’t think are worth looking at!! The pictures of our property were horrendous. We weren’t even going to go check it out and only decided to because we went to look at another property in the area. The first property was pictured phenomenally, but when we went to look at it, it was all hillside. This property looked a little ghetto in the pictures, and the second I was pulling down the driveway I knew that we had just found the one. And WE ALMOST DIDN’T GO LOOK AT IT. Other than that I’d say find a good realtor if you don’t know people locally. If you know people locally ask around to see if they know of anyone selling off market because that’s how you’ll get the best deal.
@@mistyhollowcottage thank you so much for the advice. I let my friends know.
Congratulations 🎉
Beautiful property ,I really hopeyou will have habitat areas for wildlife , native plants and meadows because you have so much realestate for that .
Hello from someone who went away and traveled the world and recently came back to West Virginia because it is indeed 'almost Heaven.' I've watched all three of your videos so far, but I don't remember if you told us....in what county in WV is your little bit of heaven located? Your property is beautiful! I know you have a lot of work ahead of you, but your sense of accomplishment and joy when you finish making it all your own will be worth it.
Hi! It is indeed almost heaven! For the safety of my family I like to keep our closer location a secret, but I LOVE to share that I’m in/from WV in hopes that other people will fall in love with it too and maybe decided to make it home. It’s easy to want to keep our little piece of heaven just ours, but really our state needs people (especially young people), but the WV plat map is entirely too accurate for me to start handing out my county 🤣
@@mistyhollowcottage I apologize! That is certainly understandable, which is why I only asked which county you were in. I guess I was just thinking it would be interesting to put you in a certain region or area in WV while I watched your progress on your cottage. Although WV is a small state, there are distinct regions in the state that each have their own 'flavor,' so to speak, and their own geography. I didn't mean to come off as nosy. As for attracting people to the state, my friends and I often say that we have mixed feelings on that subject. Although in one way we would welcome the growth, on the other hand, we don't want an influx of people who would want to change the character of the state to make it more like where they 'escaped' from, if you know what I mean. The rural nature and values of WV are what make it an attractive place to live, away from what Harding called 'the madding crowd.' Best wishes in your family's endeavor!
Oh I’m the queen of being nosy, no need to apologize haha! We’re in southern West Virginia! And I completely agree. I want people to move here but everyone has to act right 🤣
It’s crazy that it’s not that old and needs all this work :/ but I know it will be awesome once finished. I liked the wood floors but I can see it being problematic with dirt collecting
Oh gosh don’t I know it. I can guarantee not a single permit was pulled 😅
Oh! And don’t worry about the flooring, we went yesterday to get something muuuuuch better 😉
You can use high heat to remove the liquid nail
Oh man I wish I knew this before!! Next time haha
Would love to see more as you all update the cottage!
Make a small burn pile outside. It will save you so much time. Easy to block off.
Ooooh great dream...I'm probably not as excited as you are to see it finished but I'm looking forward to it for sure. Good luck.
You are so blessed!! What a gorgeous property!! My step-brother will be moving to WV from Alexandria, VA and he is so excited about the move...DC traffic is insane...He bought a little campground in Bluefield....I can't wait to see you next video! Thank you for sharing...
You said there's another house on ur property, do y'all own it too?? If so, can u show that house to us too???
Yes we do and yes I can! It’s probably more akin to a shack and we’ll likely end up tearing it down, but I can do a tour of it soon!
Wow a stunning property and a cute cottage! Praying I will get my own soon, God told me the house a year ago so just waiting for something to happen with that
Paradise!
If you are purchasing standard depth counters for your bar area that is 36 inches. Cabinets are 24 deep . you will have a 1 inch overhang on front of cabinetry. Your over hang for the snack bar will be 11 inches which will work perfectly. To go any deeper than 36 inches will require custom counters. This is advice from a kitchen and bath designer with 30+ years of experience. Hope this helps. Custom is always great but most of us need to live within a budget that doesn't allow for a lot of expensive customizations. Blessings from a fellow West Virginian.
Beautiful property!
Hello from a fellow West Virginian. Congrats on the purchase of your farm it is simply beautiful.
I just found your channel. It’s a gorgeous property and I’m excited to follow the renovations you have planned!
Its beautiful
Good progress!
Thanks for sharing :-D
If you move your bathroom to that area where washer and were, all your plumbing would be on that end of house and be much easier and look really good.
Agree.
Remove carpet asap, carpet is home for fleas and probably thousands eggs there. Paint the floor sub floor until you renovate.
Suggestion: close off the door into ur kitchen and from the girl’s room / closing off the laundry room as you mentioned. Then Crete a short hallway from both bedrooms. This gives your kitchen more wall space. Also as mentioned by the person from Ireland move ur bathroom next to laundry room by taking bedroom space from the girls room.
That doesn't make a very good floor. Might be ok for ceilings but that huge gap it has where the tongue and groove joint is will just collect dirt and debris and drive you crazy. Slow your roll gal ! You put too many words in each sentence and driving my anxiety way up.
We’ve already ripped out all of that flooring! And I like the way I talk, it’s efficient 🤣
Perhaps Mr. Tony that this is not a channel for you. We viewers can't dictate the personality or delivery style of the hostess of the channel, nor should we even try. The rest of us will enjoy her excitement, which is certainly justified by having acquired that beautiful property, and we will enjoy their progress on turning the cottage into their dream home.
@@eirenmist12 Perhaps indeed
New subscriber from Australia. Just wanted to say I really enjoy your channel and look forward to seeing your renovations. I am sorry there’s so many problems with the plumbing and electrical work but at least you will have peace of mind once you get them all fixed. My husband is not very handy around the house so we have to pay contractors to come in and fix problems. The previous owner of our house tried to hide a lot of problems when he sold the house so we have had to repair a lot and replace appliances. 😊😊😊
Welcome here! It’s amazing how many sketchy things people hide behind walls 😅
Expand the bathroom to take the whole wall, two entrances, and make the space with the big window the primary bedroom. Girls room where you have your bed now. Remove the wall with the closet in the green room and take the space from the skinny utility space to make a large combined kitchen/living space. Laundry could go in or be connected to the bathroom. You may need to lose that little window from the old kitchen to make that work.
Alternatively, put an L shaped kitchen where the bathroom is and keep that space for combined living/kitchen. Put a jack and jill bathroom in the green room along the back wall, utilizing the space where the laundry previously was. Green room for girls, put a door on the storage space and turn it into laundry, and add a door in primary bedroom to connect to the bathroom. (Of course would have to raise the floor in there or add a step)
I would open up that pantry wall too. Then put your well pump, water heater, pantry and laundry in the 'passageway' area. Block that passage way area off at the end to the left as you are looking into the bedroom doorway. That way your kitchen, eat in nook and loungeroom is all open plan. I would extend the bathroom across the bottom of the lounge room and include a mudroom in there. That way you have a back door entry for muddy kids n dogs, clean as you enter. The kitchen entry for guests and bringing in food etc from the store. I wouldnt bother putting bedrooms in the attic. More practical and financially sound to extend the bedroom out to include family bathroom, ensuite, bedrooms including master bedroom. If you are going to extend out front build a big loungeroom. That way current loungeroom can be made into dining room. Breakfast nook can therefore become the begining of the passageway out to the bedrooms and bathroom wing.
I love how much thought you put into this response! We’re fighting a couple of things as far as plumbing goes. Certain angles aren’t achievable, that closet area used to be an exterior porch so in the crawl space it’s completely blocked off from the rest of the house. It’s all a mess but I think we’ve figured out a pretty good game plan that I’ll share next week! ☺️
Hello from neighboring VA! Beautiful property and years of renovations ahead! What fun!!
