There's 4 categories in DSLRs entry level, semi pro level, entry level full frame and professional If you never owned a DSLR before go with the d3x00 or d5x00 models...but if you're upgrading from a d5x00 model go I suggest the d7x00 which falls under the semi pro dslr... A lot of people who never owned a DSLR are buying d7100 and d7000 as beginner and giving them bad reviews bcs they get lost on all of the settings and shooting options... Otherwise if you know your stuff you will love this dslr

I just purchased this camera for $138 brand new. upgraded from my D3000 =)

It does support external flash, just no external microphone

this camera doesn't support external flash or any other external devices. that's the down side. if it did allow that it would have been a better camera. but you get what you paid for.
