Don’t forget the very large Alevi AND Alawi minorities in Türkiye / Anatolia. Bahrain & the KSA include substantial, usually overlooked Shia minority populations. As does Afghanistan ( Hazaras & others ). Azerbaijan is also mostly Shia.

By some definitions, we are living under black supremacy today. One definition of true ruling class is those whom you may not criticize. That can include those like me AND those like George.

  • @CoreyChambersLA

Sorry George, but you're not the only person who has lived in poverty. Some of the most vile villains in history have been Marxists, intellectuals and philosophers who grew up poor, rarely if ever worked a real job, yet gained too much influence.

bluegrass is a common language in that there a few hundred songs that everyone knows the basic structure/form and the variations on it..they decide on a key and then launch into it..the set the foundation with the feel and melody and then let each other take turns soloing while the others back them up…it’s a beautiful thing to witness.

I’m sorry but I have read some of Ms. Kendall’s papers and I disagree with her on several of her conclusions. I feel she looks at race and a minority groups social status and draws her conclusions based on two demential thinking. They are like this, so it must be a result of white privilege. She does not take to into account the individual, their personal emotional insecurities, their lack of ambition and drive in life which I am predicting she would respond that these personal traits are a result of (again) white privilege. People are people each with their own intellectual attributes and personal motivations. I come from a very poor background. The only food I got as a child was from school lunch and did not want to go home for fear of being beaten by my mother, but I knew I wanted to be better and I (excuse my expression) busted my ass and made something of myself and I did. People need to be judged as individuals. Many of the black community’s problems start with the family, lack of two parents, lack of love and support, life style She seems like a nice lady, but I feel she’s trapped a little bit in fantasy land sorry Responsibility starts with the individual, you can’t blame someone’s personal circumstances on another race merely for convenience.

In 2022, as many of our top thinkers on race begin to more deeply examine the notion of “white privilege” and its illiberal ideological underpinnings, which simplistically places complex individuals into essentialist racial categories and relentlessly weaves a narrative of conspiracy around them, Frances’ perspective feels dated and counterproductive.

Absolutely beautiful. He demonstrates the "active love" that Father Zosima talks about in the Brothers Karamazov. Through vulnerability, empathy, and courage, he continues the legacy of Spinoza in seeking liberation from "human bondage." He is an absolutely brilliant philosopher who masterfully integrated Foucault, Althusser, Merleau-Ponty, West, Butler, the Ancient Greeks, and Heidegger in an accessible and relevant manner. My heart breaks regarding the amount of hate he has experienced. I hope the whites who watch this no longer succumb to the "sad passions" associated with white supremacy. As I read through the comments, I am astounded how racism is alive and well.

@@joelgivens1 well you would be incorrect in your assumption, but nice try. It’s not about empathy it’s about what logically makes sense, and this crap does not. Just because he says he comes from a place of “love” doesn’t mean what he’s saying isn’t racist. I mean if he just called it what he really meant which is just necessary racism towards white people, I could maybe get behind that. Maybe that is what we need, I don’t know

    • @joelgivens1

@@gcharocks If you had a close friend or family member who received vicious death threats, how would feel? Angry? Hurt? Would you feel a need to protect that person? Or would you feel the need to protect the person who gave the death threats? What we need is heart. We cannot heal as a nation until people are able to sense the hurt that others feel. I don't understand how a person saying that white people have hurt him is racist. How is that logical? I don't understand how you can see another person's suffering and ignore it. That seems heartless to me, but I guess your friends and family would know you better.

@@gcharocks -- The only kernel of truth I see in your statement is "I don't know"... because you obviously DON'T. Not knowing is not, in itself, a crime... But to be willfully ignorant in the context of race, and proud of that ignorance, is an attitude that comes with white privilege.

What a wonderful upload. Thanks for doing that. Particularly since Byron recently passed away it is so inspiring to hear him speak to Mr. Davis. And I can see that Mr. Davis did his homework in preparation for this interview . Even Bluegrass fans such as I who started listening and playing it way back in about 1963 in Montreal can learn from him. I guess among my favorite Byron Berline shows was when he performed with The Country Gazette. They came to Ontario many times. And of course Berline , Crary and Hickman and Sundance. Such a huge loss . Our outstanding fiddle player Roly LaPierre was a very close friend of Byron's.
