knitting with the brother lace carriage is quite easy using the punchcard which come with your machine. The one I'm using is card 18 S, which has lots of transfers. Transfers are great for stitch movement and textural interest. Set the punchcard as normal and lock it at row one. knit a minimum of 10 rows and place main carriage at right of knitting. Put lace rails in position. put lace carriage...

      Ypu havent used a comb for weights at the start...mine is an old bsuch that has no yarn bird you have to tension it yourself which is kinda cool i can do it now...but the first few rows is hell...it didnt come with a cast on comb and supposedly the " skates" push down the yarn but they don't really work properly ... I cant find a 3.6 guage cast on comb for love nor money... how are you managing to cast on without weights? Any tips? Maybe i need to do a higher tendsion or something. It is a fine guage machine. Thanks

    • @clairenewberry7388
      @clairenewberry7388 7 дней назад

      @serendipidus8482 hello, thanks for your message. The 360 doesn't have a comb, but brother machines do. So if you search for brother cast on comb you might be luckier. The comb acts as a bit of a weight. If the knitting works great without weights then this is enough if it's not knitting off properly then you can add some weights onto the knitting or the comb itself. Hope this helps. Claire

      If it slides ok without yarn. ANd when you add yarn it is hard to move it may be because your yarn is too thick. Try using every second needle with thicker yarn ... or get thinner yarn and try. It can also be if theres no weights on it the wool bunches up near the static comb.

    Can i ask a question only because i have been searching youtube for hours trying to find a explanation on one symbol on certian fashion lace punch cards , that usually have the blocks on the right where you remove yarn to transfer stitches, my question stems from sometimes you see the little u turn arrow on the left which i read in a book that it means to knit to rows with the main carriage and then reutrn the lace carriage... 2 questions... 1 if im using a lace carriage that can knit do i just knit two rows with that? or am i bringing in my main carraige, and knitting but if im knitting with my main carriage will it affect the card moving up rows?

    • @clairenewberry7388
      @clairenewberry7388 7 месяцев назад

      Hello Steve, If you are on a brother machine the turning arrows means you knit with the main carriage. The lace carriage should be parked on the left rail. If you have a lace carriage which knits and transfers. You have to change it from transfer setting to knit setting and replace the yarn to knit the plain rows Hope this helps. X

    • @stevemichael8186
      @stevemichael8186 7 месяцев назад

      @@clairenewberry7388 I think you still bring in a main carraige, if i have a lace that knits and transfers but im doing fashion lace for instance and i am in a ''red block section'' where you set the dial to fasion lace for example and so i take out my yarn flip it to fashion transfer stitches and move that lace carraige from right to left, now the next arrow has a curved arrow for knit two, i cant knit two with the lace carriaage because its on the opposite side of the bed now then the yarn? so then the main carraige comes in on standard stockinette with side levers down not to do the patter, and knits two rows then can continue with the lace carriage?

    • @Padraigp

    I LOVE cotton knit blankets, I'm allergic to wool, and had no idea these machines could do what I don't have the talent or patience for by my arthritis ridden hands. I'm quite sure I'd be a blanket making fool and crank them out like a factory BUT although I am a natural at keeping tension by hand, it was remarked on since I was young, tension and settings on a sewing machine baffle me even though I'm very mechanical. I wonder if these machines would beat me as well. I've been researching these machines on RUclips and you are by far the best teacher I've come across. You've answered so many questions I had without me having to ask. Had NO idea these machines have the scope they do, lacework! I would never have thought.... Someone mentioned they preferred the European machines to the Japenese, like Brother who I had no idea they were Japanese if they really are. They didn't really elaborate why. I can't remember all the brands thet mentioned, do you have ones from a range of companies? 2nd question, did you make the sweater you're wearing? and if so, by hand or on one of your machines?

    • @clairenewberry7388
      @clairenewberry7388 Год назад

      Hello Thank you for your very kind comment. I very much appreciate it. Both types of machines have there merits and specialities. The Passap (European) is not so great at lace, but are fabulous on multiple tuck stitches without dropping stitches. The jacquard facility is also second to non on a Passap. The Japanese machines were made in Japan, but latterly the Silver Reed, also a Japanese brand, is now made in China. If you are considering a machine it may be best to start with a Japanese punch card machine. You can start basic structures without using the auto patterning to gain you confidence. The manuals are not great, so a lesson or two may help you on your way. If poss, try to have a demo on a machine and see if it is for you to use with your arthritis. Having said that, you can get a motor to move the carriage on the needle bed. Motors can be pricey but worth it if you decide to take to knitting on a machine. Sending you best wishes and thank you for watching my videos. I hope to make more soon. Best wishes, Claire
