This was my performance at an open mic storytelling event on Sept. 5, 2019. The theme was: "The Body". My story was about a 5K race I ran in 2016 that didn't go according to plan. The group who hosts the event is So Say We All, out of San Diego, CA. The monthly event is called "Long Story Short" where you speak about a topic for 5 min or less with NO NOTES. Ancestry DNA Results Reveal video

Finding out my dna results from Ancestry.com. at 5:15 I show the screen, sorry about that I should have shown the map at the start. My estimate based on what I knew was that I would be 50% Italian and 50% Greek. But possibly less Greek with some Caucus region/Georgian/Russian mix. My results were slightly different than I thought with a few surprises mixed in.

Newport Waves Rescue
Просмотров 1,4 млн15 лет назад
You can hate on the video if you want, but please remember there were 100s of people watching the waves while the lifeguards did their best to rescue 2 people. I didn’t see the person way out off the pier while taping this. As a spectator I was in NO position to rescue anyone myself nor expected to. Huge 15-20 feet waves at the Balboa Pier in Newport Beach, CA on July 24, 2009. I caught a lifeg...
The title has to be people dying and i am searching for gold
Please forgive my ignorance, but can't the boy who is furthest away try to reach the shore by taking advantage of the momentum of the waves, instead of submerging and letting them pass? It's just a question!
Oh my god...😂😂😂
Do you have anything to add other than “ oh my god this is insane!” Why didn’t you get your ass down there and f-ing DO something! Coward! Typical just like on social media saying a bunch of crap, nothing to back it up! 👎
Does holy shit come from a holy person?
“He got him out” - Other guy is still flailing around out there 😂
Remain calm, swim under the pitching lip if you can. Otherwise try to get either out beyond or well inside of the IMPACT ZONE. Nobody can just sit in shore break and get worked over and over. Also wear a wetsuit vest or shorty and have on boogie fins to give you some ability to swim and float.
Clean up set , didn’t stop
Why does RUclips recommend videos of "dudes" that talk like this?
Stay out of the water-period
Will your next video have "Ohh my Goodness" as a soundtrack ?
Most annoying commentary ever...oh my gaaaawd....😅
Loving this autumnal ACTION! 🍂🍁
I wish that the person talking would shut up.
I am a lifeguard and a gifted open water swimmer and former competitive swimmer and current surfer who made my first rescue when I was 9 years old and coincidentally got hammered by a wave at Zuma and sucked out to sea and had to rescue myself. I mentioned that because these waves are very dangerous to even someone like me or any professional lifeguard. So, the problem is the many MANY swimmers who are not really swimmers, in fact, weak swimmers who think they know how to swim and underestimate the ocean and will go in and not be able to get back. If you don't respect the ocean or a body of water, it will have a way of making you respect it. So don't mess with it boys and girls. Make sure that it's safe. Always ask a lifeguard first.
Wow you started at 9 years old. I agree lots of people think they can swim 🏊♀️ but they can’t. I been watching Bondi Rescuers which I’m hooked on but you see lots of swimmers under the influence. Very dumb. God keep you and all the lifeguards safe.
@@victorialoren2372 I was trained originally in junior lifeguards and a rescue can actually be pretty easy if you just grab a person and pull that the head above the water. I actually saw a 6-year-old make a rescue. I was lifeguarding for swim lessons and I had a group of 6-year-olds beneath me. And as I was scanning the pool I looked down beneath my tower, and there was a 6-year-old under the water. Basically going to drown. I began to make my rescue, but the 6-year-old next to him had the presence of mind to grab him and pull him up. A 6-year-old hero.
@@michaelangelos5117 Wow. Thank God for lifeguards. How cute a 6 year old saving a life, hopefully he’ll grow up wanting to be a lifeguard. So you started when you were a teenager or an adult? Where are you a lifeguard now?
@@victorialoren2372 Thanks for asking. Really appreciate it. Well I'm 63 now and I lifeguarded till I was about 61 years old but I've lifeguarded all over the place, San Diego, Santa Monica, Encinitas but now I coach swimming. The 6-year-old just had presence of mine and reacted. I don't even think he knew what he did. And, to be honest, a lifeguard isn't going to see everything. And I did not see that little kid go under. I just saw the other kid pull him out.
@@michaelangelos5117 you’re welcome. That’s great you were a lifeguard for many years and now you’re giving swimming lesson, great quality. You been in lots beautiful places. Ive been going to Newport Beach since I was a kid, my son also lives there. I been hooked on watching Bondi Rescuers for couple of weeks and that beach is sooo packed.
I was there, on the Balboa pier, watching this whole scene unfold, and it was unreal. The video just doesn't capture the enormity of the surf. After reading several posts below about lifeguards and swimmers, I wanted to give my perspective. I grew up in OC and have been body surfing for 40 years, including Balboa Beach in this video. Balboa Beach is typically a shore break, and never breaks this far out. The size and energy of the waves was incredible. I tried to go out the day before (much smaller), and just waist deep felt like you were standing in a blender. Just before these two kids (18-ish) swam out, an older guy (30-ish) swam out and did an amazing job body surfing two large waves. The older guy then came in looking exhausted, and that is when the two kids ran in. These kids were every bit a swimmer as a life guard. But, they could not have picked a worse time, as this huge set rolled in just as they entered the water. The waves were skimming the bottom of the pier, shaking the pier, and broke off a large cross member. The kid caught inside was getting pounded. He would duck dive, but when he came up on the back side, he would take a breath, and then the currents would draw him back under water for another 15-20 secs. A lifeguard ran down the pier and called out to guy, asking if he needed help, and the kid waved him in. In the next video, you see the lifeguard jump off the pier. Fortunately, the large set ended, and the lifeguard was able to pull him further out. Don't know if the lifeguard boat came and hauled them in.
No se cómo te estás cómo estás estás cómo te va va estás cómo te va estás cómo vas y estás en el hospital y te estás cómo estás estás cómo te va estás cómo te vas con la mamá y te vas
There's always a metal detector! 😂😂😂
Having grown up near the ocean and swimming in the OR/WA coast my entire life I had my closest drowning experience just last year. Always check your tides (going out or coming in), check with local guards, ranger stations, any resource possible, for recent updates, and always, always, ALWAYS underestimate your ability. Because if the ocean wants you, she will take you.
There are so many comments. I didn't read them all. But there are save some dorks calling themselves experts and calling this waves 6 or 8 ft. The crest of the wave @ 1:04 breaks / falls down in 1 secunde. With the free fall formula (h = 0,5 * g * t^2) you get h = 0,5 * 9,81 m /s^2 * (1s)^2 = 4,9 m (16 ft). That's the wave height. The Amplitude is divided by two so 2,45 m (8ft).
And yet here i am safely tucked away in my recliner, taking a different perspective on life.
Never swim when high tide. Even you're the the master of swimming, you'll be prolonged tired. then gone.
Fantastic house!

Hello, I sent an email to the one listed on your outreach page. Thanks.
It’s like they didn’t get one of them
. There’s a life an death scenario and the treasure hunter is like nothing. He must have mental issues to be looking for treasure during that weather condition.
I have never ever seen waves like that. Proper tombstone waves
anybody realize how destructive shrimping is to the ocean? They kill tons of marine life for every 10 shrimp they catch. They haul up the net and dump the dead drowned turtles overboard, which are quickly buried by fish and game before the tourists wake up, and then the shrimpers leave a ten foot pile of heaving protoplasm to suffocate on the deck. When EVERYTHING is dead and I do mean EVERYTHING, they shovel it all back into the sea while picking out the dozen or so shrimp to put them in a bucket. Then the do it again, and all within a mile of shore, where it is illegal.
Crazy, one guy looking for treasure🙃
The other guy drowned
Even this is too much for a lifeguard- helicopters would have been better- but amazing that the lifeguard saved them. Amazing.
I think they needed some helicopters to go get the man out there

1 John 4:7 7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. Matthew 5:44 44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you. 2 Corinthians 7:1 1 Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. Hebrews 12:14 14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord. 1 Peter 1:16 16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy. Ephesians 5:27 27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. 2 Peter 3:14 14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.

Lifeguard rescue priority - throw, row, or go. Throw the rescue bouy, row the boat to the victim, or go swimming.
I would let a wave take me to the top of the pier and i would grab it then climb up
1:00 middle left of screen. He be fine🤣
Wow those are big waves! I would be the guy with the medal detector 😄
OMG!! It's like on the pier....Lol
