    I personally think that living slightly more inland is better than living directly in the city. Like up near the Burgaw area because housing is pretty damn cheap and its still only like a 20-30 minute drive to downtown wilmington

    I am looking at a few places, close to the Wilmington railroad museum. Is that area susceptible to hurricanes as the coastal part of Wilmington.

    • @WilmingtonNCLiving
      @WilmingtonNCLiving 4 месяца назад

      That museum is close to the river so it's a bit more susceptible than if you were to move farther inland. That being said, it isn't a particularly low-lying area so flooding really shouldn't be much of an issue there.

      I would recommend either the Trails End Park boat ramp or Wrightsville Beach boat ramp depending on what part of the island you plan on accessing. If the boat is really small it may be best to use trails end to avoid all of the Wrightsville Beach boat traffic. There are great spots for both! Masonboro island is actually the best surfing spot in the area but there's also great beach breaks on Wrightsville and Carolina beach as well. I lived in Wilmington for 25 years. I now live in Charlotte as I need to be near family as I am in my 70's and type one diabetic. My mother was from Wilmington so I have visited my entire life. Your video did capture some of the good and bad. Florence while bad as it sat on Wilmington to rain and rain was only a Cat 1. I am not sure how the area will handle a Cat 3/4/5 given the population growth, density and limited road options. I should mention that dying Memorial Bridge. The other significant problem is medical care. The local hospital is not very good. If you have a serious illness go to Durham or Chapel Hill. You mentioned entertainment. The Wilson Center seems to be the residence for elderly musicians way past their prime. It used to be that you could go to the beaches even in the summer. Now the beaches are for those who can afford to pay especially Wrightsville Beach. We all know that part of that cost is to keep certain people out which is why Wilmington city buses do not go there.

    • @WilmingtonNCLiving
      @WilmingtonNCLiving Год назад

      There's definitely some truth in all of that. I think we could handle a major hurricane here if it was moving fast enough but if it sits like Florence did we will definitely be in some trouble. The hospital was recently bought out by a bigger corporation, there's hope that they will invest money and make everything better but only time will tell. It is a nice convenience that Wilmington residents are only a two-hour straight shot from everything the Duke and Chapel Hill hospitals have to offer. They're also currently doing some upkeep work on the Memorial Bridge which is a pain for daily commuters but will hopefully keep it in action long-term. Thanks for watching!

    I moved to Wilmington after a long research, I was not disappointed because the shortcomings I already knew about were the same, no walking paths nor crossing lights for walkers, you must own a car or you will never get anywhere, people are chill except on the highway crazy driving and speeding everywhere. the traffic is not bad yet. I can't live here permanently, but it's a nice break before finding my last resort.

      Launching from Trails End boat ramp would probably be your best bet. I would try to time it on a rising tide because some of the creeks that lead in to the back side of the island get pretty shallow as the tide gets low. You could also launch from the far south end of Wrightsville Beach but boat traffic and currents in that channel can get pretty intense. If you decide to go that way I'd definitely advise going at slack tide, and on a weekday if possible so the boat traffic isn't too bad. Hope this helps!
