Love the vitage drive. Have you testet the "hidden" LMC compressor mode that activates if you press "IN" for 5 seconds under HF compressor. Use it on most of my mixes and gives a great boost.

I bought the BBE when it first came out after reading an article in a magazine back in 1991. When it came in the mail I was blown away and have bought several over the years!

UAD version was released in 2008 (one of the oldest on the plattform). Softube version in 2024. Quiet the time gap..

I do analog summing with a 2bus XT and to be honest the only reason i kept the unit was, the coherence effect. It was set and forget for me on my drumbus. Did everything I wanted (little eq, little compression and some kind of a tape effect). it still sounds perfect everytime i use it on rock-drums. Nowadays i use it with a patchbay to use other HW-gear with it. I love it.

I have an equalizer and a compressor with input and output transformers and really like the sound of them a lot. The House of Kush stuff sounds always great imo, I also like the Kazrog Iron which is also a very useful tool too 🙂

I use that same Radial RMP Reamp box and the signal into my amp is always too quiet even with the level knob all the way up. I usually end up boosting my DI track in the box to get it loud enough out of the reamp box.

This is not the NEW native Ampex ATR-102 from UAD! This is the older one bruh! 🤦🏽

UAD has made partially a good job here but.... they continue to not think till the end on this. Needed are these: A gain match knob! A lowcut filter to leave the lows untouched. A mix knob to adjust wet and dry. and visual feedback with numbers in the eq adjustments. Its ok ok to faithfully recreate old good stuff... i'm with you. But in todays times we should make things better and more usefull. Right now i have to do a lot of tweakin.. parallel processing to get what i want from the Ampex ATR 102. Further the UAD App does have many problems.. doesnt open properly, crashes, does not recognize licenses, with lot of restarts needed. UAD should remove once for all this tedious Ilok system and provide licenses like any other modern manufacturer😊😊

the pre delay on the vintage verb is setuped wrong, look at the settings of the 224, there is a minimum pre delay of 24ms. also try to level match the patches:)

VERY important difference between these is in the menu of the series 80... it has 3 ways to handle clipping... the default is "soft clip" which is not the same as on the original 1073/84. It allows you to set it to hard clip, which will bring in a lot more distortion when driving the signal. Soft clip won't do that as you are probably aware. Besides that it also allows you to disable that circuit entirely, so you can drive it all the way without gritty distortion and just get the harmonics without clipping. Everyone always overlooks it and then say the UAD sounds different when the signal is driven. Yup, because its hard clip vs soft clip, and that's a massive difference.

Thanks for taking the time to do this. Unfortunately - in this context, without a very thorough attempt at level matching, its impossible to evaluate anything. The plugin was significantly louder and therefore sounded better. Match the peak level and it will be more useful and revealing. I personally feel like they did a decent job. I have a fusion as well and it help up decently

542s are way nicer sounding. a cool kind of "trick" is to turn back the saturation and use the input knob to drive the input transformer (to my ears it sounds different than the saturation circuit). any way, good video! cheers Bernd

There's no tape head in these units. It's a transformer that mimics the tonality of tape. The marketing is wrong.

Both sound great, but very different. If I had to pick one for recording I would lean towards the G12-65. Less hyped, more balanced. I think it could cover more ground. The Creamback does sound killer for certain things, though. Great demo.
