Op.13 Quatre Nocturnes
Просмотров 2,1 тыс.Месяц назад
I tried to try myself with this popular form while also avoiding the obvious ostinato left hand and dreamy/embellished melody right hand option. Nothing wrong with that of course (and there are moments of it in these pieces too) but I just wanted to try out different approaches to this genre. I've noticed that I have been relying on coherence and smoothness in the development in my pieces and a...

Op.12 Piano Sonata No.1

First (real) piano sonata! I already wrote this last year but was never really happy with any recording I made and also kept tinkering on certain passages. But since I won't have the time to work on this properly to get a more solid recording I decided to finally post this version of it now. There are a few changes in my playing compared to the score (most importantly two new bars instead of th...

I've been fascinated and enchanted by the compositions for children by other composers and tried to capture the unique simplicity, honesty and respect for child musicians I often encounter in them. Also I played it on about 4 different instruments, so it's a bit all over the place. I hope it is enjoyable nonethe...

Piano Sonata for the Left Hand - IV. Passacaglia
Просмотров 6555 месяцев назад
The heart and last movement of the sonata. Kind of my take on the form after being obsessed with Godowsky's Passacaglia. The Passacaglia theme is the theme of the sonata once more and the cadenza uses the same motif as well. The Passacaglia is split into three parts. The first is a Godowsky like build up in texture and voices climaxing in two variations (VI and VII) quoting Schubert's Erlkönig ...
Piano Sonata for the Left Hand - III. Marcia Funebre
Просмотров 2576 месяцев назад
The slow movement of the sonata. It is in the form of a funeral march, with a bitonal, measureless lullaby as a trio section. This movement recalls some of the more daring harmonies from the first movement (e.g. the Cadd#11 being followed by a Fmaj7 chord towards the end or some spicy unresolved dissonances) and also references the main motif (eb-d-g) of the sonata. Contrary to the other three ...

Finally I'm getting around to recording the other movements! This fugue is pretty hard to play with just one hand so forgive my mistakes, this was the best take I got. Variations for Orchestra! Some of the notation is catered towards the musescore playback, so it's not really up to performance standard (no bowing mostly, no phrasing slurs, inconsistent dynamics at spots, wrong harmonic notation in the last variation, etc...). • @RachManJohn
    @RachManJohn 12 дней назад

The first movement is somewhat reminiscent of a berceuse. The second section with the chromatics against the whole tone scale is really quite beautiful, as is your handwriting throughout. The ending is fresh. I liked it very much. The second piece somewhat reminds me of Messiaen's recitatives in places, combined with those Debussy swirls. I think some more development in that work would have been welcome, to better set up the ending. The third work was even more Debussy. Again, I was hoping for a little more development in your vision, but I'll be happy with what you've given. Fourth piece's B section almost seems like some kind of forgotten dance, like a mutated passage from the 3rd Mephisto Waltz. You seem to really like your binary form. Scarlatti would be proud! The fifth work is a welcome burst of grotesqueness, shades of which I think could have really fit well into the second piece in order to break up the established tropes. Very sarcastic moments, I'm in favor of your use of bass in this last piece. Prokofiev comes through. If you were to ever flesh these works out more, I'd probably give them a crack.

wow thanks! im very happy you took so much from these works. you're completely right, these are more akin to sketches. ive been especially interested in just creating something that gives a little glimpse into some interesting or unique world, not necessarily to develop these ideas a ton. I see it a bit like practicing to really formulate a phrase or idea before moving on to the complex and difficult task of creating musical drama and development. rest assured though, I am currently working on another piece in sonata form which will have plenty of development :)

I really like this. It isn't like much I've heard before. It uses chromatism in a very unique way. It doesn't feel too impressionistic, nor too dissonant. It is an unsteady peace, almost. Even the final piece, with it's loud and quick chords do not feel dissonant. It is very hard to describe. Great work.

They put the wrong accent on the "e" when they wrote "Deux Poémes." The manuscript has it right, tho'. You'd think JS Bach might have come up with more original names than "Preludium" and "Fuga". I mean, he wrote 48 of them. How about a little pizzazz in the titles, like "More Notes than you can shake a stick at"?

I once studied at the "St. Louis Conservatory of Music" in the early 80's (long since defunct) .. I transferred there from USC ( S.Carolina) Music school - Classical Guitar). I will never forget how it was way, way over my head ( solfège class, real-time beat transcriptions ..etc ..). Practically all of the ~+40 students there had started playing before 10 yrs old an most had family that were symphonic players or conductors. Made some great friends and it was an awesome period in my life.

Wow.. absolutely delightful! I'm glad I came across this. The first piece struck me as incredibly beautiful from the start, and it didn't stop being good. They're all good, and I like the first and last most. It's like you gave each piece its own identity and didn't just toss it out after a couple of bars, but instead took it on an adventure. It's really satisfying to listen to. Also the lofi sound quality makes it sound kinda eerie which is a nice aesthetic, but I'd love to hear these on a grand in a concert hall with good quality mics.

Great playing, but as I've played and listened to the first and fourth mvts too many times, the fourth seems a little too fast and the texture the left hand is making is a little as if it's little triplet groups like in the first mvt. Idk about this edition, but I've always thought that they need to be more legato, like much more stable runs. The middle section is also really well played but might be a little too rushed. I'd say in general that there are 2 characters having a debate, and the first character immediately gets furious, then the second tries to calm him down and it goes on. Basically what I'm getting at is to voice the "characters" in a little more different tempo (slight changes bc otherwise it'll mess everything up) and a generally much more contrasting voicing. Btw sorry for the yap session

Not easy playing in a piano of suboptimal condition or recording an entire session, great job! Hope you don’t mind if I shared some thoughts on what I’m hearing. I didn’t get a chance to listen through every piece. Overall you have some good ideas of what you’re trying to do and good tones. I would think about the competitiveness of some of the choices however, the Bach and Beethoven you picked are all more on the ‘elementary’ levels so you will be judged harsher on perfection so keep that in mind. For the fugue I would refrain from rubato expressions (the prelude is okay to use some rubato) but having rubato or anything that disrupts the pulse of the music can also disrupt the presentation of the subjects when they come in. Structure is extremely important here. Overall there’s a feeling the left hand can be more subdued throughout all the pieces at moments. The 1st Scriabin can sound a bit dry at times, this isn’t purely pedaling, could try to finger pedal more and legato involves transferring of weight between fingers rather than pure finger work.
