this game is and was my favorite game as a kid, really hope you end up playing black ops 2 aswell after this game. if you didnt know 'CoD: world at war' is the prequel to this game. but in my opinion whether you should play it or not is optional.

bruh i remember as a kid being stuck on that first mission for so long at that fruit stand or whatever cause i never saw woods run to the side. id endlessly try to fight the cops until i died, then restart. stuck there for at least a few hours lol

You killed him not reznov, it’s revealed that reznov brainwashed you to do his bidding and everytime you see him it’s actually you doing all this stuff like stabbing that guy in the water, and swift was calling you out on your schizophrenic behavior and you got him killed for talking with "reznov"

If you haven't seen them, they did five animated prequel shorts to the game that introduced the main Midnight Suns members, as well as setting up a lot of the story elements of the game. I think there's also a prequel novel that fills in the gap between the last of those shorts and the beginning of this game, but I have yet to read it, so it could be entirely unrelated for all I know.

The name change for the Sons being Suns now is because the team here (especially in the recent comic run) is like 50%+ women. And they also wanted to emphasize the importance of the prophecy of the Midnight Sun, which was something all the way back in the original Rise of the Midnight Sons story, too. Also, technically, there are places on Earth where a Midnight Suns is possible. Some olaces even get a 24 hour sun. So... The prophecy isn't the clearest in regards to how the Midnight Sun is supposed to appear, but... Still a thing.
