Live Lovely

Добавлен 25 авг 2015
Live Lovely is my manifesto. It is a reminder to appreciate the little things that make life beautiful. This vlog is for for simple living enthusiasts such as myself. I share simple living content focusing on the New England lifestyle, travel, book reviews and recommendations, and DIY. I recently moved into my first rental home in the countryside and I have been working hard making this little cottage into a home and growing our garden. I have nicknamed the house "Hill Top Cottage" because it is on top of a hill overlooking the Litchfield Hills and I also thought it would be a lovely nod to Beatrix Potter's Hill Top Farm. Welcome to Hill Top Cottage, my friends. I hope you get cozy with a cup of tea and enjoy my videos. Thank you for being here.
A Stars Hollow New England Autumn
Stars Hollow is a fictional town in the hit television show Gilmore Girls and I happen to work in one of the small towns it is based on. I managed to take off some comp time during a work day to explore the local area with a group of friends.
My friend Julie @julesdenby brought the most adorable Lukes diner coffee cups. Luke's Diner is actually based on Marty's Cafe in Washington Depot, Connecticut. We visiting the Mayflower Inn, which is also an inspiration for the show. We had a lovely lunch at the Po Cafe and visiting the Hickory Stick bookshop. I didn't have time to explore New Milford with them (where the town gazebo resembles the one in the show), but we made it to a lovely local fa...

New Hampshire Autumn Road Trip | Car Camping In New England
Просмотров 3419 часов назад
I made this video a few years ago and never shared it! The video quality is not as good as what I have now, but it was an amazing trip with beautiful hikes from our car camping. It was one of the first videos I made when I knew that I really wanted to start sharing videos to RUclips. At the time, I didn't think it was "good enough." And then I thought it was "too late," because I like to share ...
Halloween Season At Hilll Top Cottage

I'm catching up on all of my videos before sharing new content for the new year. I have so many lovely autumn adventures to share with you. Halloween season feels very nostalgic for me. There was something magical about Halloween growing up in the 90s. No matter what decade you grew up in, Halloween is nostalgic and pulls upon from stories and traditions of Halloweens past. In this story, I sha...
Summer's End In New England
Просмотров 22День назад
We ended our summer in our usual way, working during the week and tending to the garden after work hours. On weekends we went to local country fairs. I have heard a lot of people say that the United States does not have a culture, and I disagree! We have a melting pot of so many beautiful cultures, however, each state has its own unique gifts and I am proud to be able to share some of my local ...
The Summer Story Of The Pink tent

I'm so happy to share this joyful summer story with you. In the spring I was fortunate enough to discover that a brand I've admired for years (but could never afford) was having a super clearance sale and I had a coupon code as well. This is not sponsored by the brand, nor am I encouraging you to go out and buy their tents, I simply loved this purchase and found joy in this pink tent. If you ar...

This is the trailer video for our summer road trip to Prince Edward Island. The full video will be coming soon! I apologize that I have not been posting regularly lately. I have a few videos in the works ...
A Romantic New England Summer Part Two

At the end of this summer I started a new painting project, learned how to play pickle ball and dived into the word of fantasy books. I hope you will join me at Hill Top Cottage as we explore some fun new fantasy reads and talk about slowing down the summer. In my next video, I will be sharing our recent adventure to Prince Edward Island (the world of Anne of Green Gables) in Canada before shar...
A Romantic New England Summer Part One | A Hill Top Cottage Summer Vlog | Chapter Forty

Romanticize your summer. Summer in New England was full of storms and rainbows and fireflies. I love the saying to "romanticize your life." To me, that is simply slowing down and noticing all the little glimmers of good in a normal day. Summertime in New England is full of them. In this chapter, I shared how the start of our summer began with all the storms and a tree falling on Hill Top Cottag...

Summer is here at last and I am long overdue to give you a tour of Hill Top Cottage now that I have completed [most] of my spring cleaning. Building A Deck For Our Greenhouse | Greenhouse Gardening

We built a greenhouse deck! When I picked up this budget friendly greenhouse from Ocean State Job Lots earlier this spring, we knew we would have to do something to stake it down because of the wind at the top of the hill we live on. We did not want it to blow away! That is when my dad suggested some kind of base or platform and my husband came up with an idea for a deck. I asked him if we coul...
Dandelion Season | Making Dandelion Tea & Dandelion Body Oil

In early spring I collected dandelions to make some special dandelion recipes. Did you know that dandelions have many health benefits? People can eat the roots, leaves and flowers. Dandelions reduce inflammation and are high in antioxidants. They aid digestion and improve kidney function. Dandelions are used to detox when made into a tea and when applied topically in a body oil or salve, they r...

The Little Orchard Behind Hill Top Cottage
Lovely video ❤
So nice video.❤
Thank you! I’m hoping my Gilmore Girls friends and autumn fans will enjoy it.
Welp, now I want a pink tent 😍💗🌸
There is something so nostalgic and fun about a striped beach tent.
Oh my goodness! What a lovely channel and I loved this pink tent video. I am a 72 year old great grandmother and I’m going to get one I think. You are a darling young lady and I hope you continue to make these inspiring easy on the eyes and ears videos. You make our sad world look so beautiful. I thank you for that. You also have a very pleasing soft kind voice. I’ve been around awhile now and I know beauty when I see it. I see beauty in your videos and I think you are a beautiful sweet soul. I am going to have some tea and binge on your videos. Much love to you and to anyone reading this. ❤️💕❤️
Thank you for your kindness, Sally. I'm so glad that you find joy in my simple videos. I hope you find a fun tent for yourself. If you search for "beach tent" online I'm sure you will find some fun options to choose from. This one is for the beach, but I think it's also perfect for picnic season. I'm looking forward to more picnics in the spring.
Nice video! PEI really is a special place, stunning scenery, great seafood, lovely people. Wonderful beaches, though Thundercove is too hard to get to, nearby Cabot Beach for instance is easier! I found the two Anne museums, and trails were well worth a visit. Sometimes the less known places are great to visit...Cape Tyron, and Cape Egmont light houses, and North Cape were stunning. My favourite spot, was the board walk, in Greenwich, outstanding. Cannot wait to return!! It was refreshing hearing your enthusiasm, during your vacation. I think a lot of men, do not get the "Anne" thing, I am an exception!! The author was remarkable, battling periods of depression, she wrote so many books...The post office was interesting, a nice Montgomery park is beside it, and across the road is where Lucy Maude Montgomery is buried. I agree with you, the much smaller Anne museum in park Corner, is more authentic, though both places are worth a visit!..
Thank you! I enjoy your description of PEI. We loved our visit to the island. Matt hasn’t read the books, but he has an appreciation for the films and the Anne With an E series. He noted that the heritage center was like a sports hall of fame, but for book lovers. I already miss the quiet countryside and all the hidden beaches. I hope to return again.
That was amazing. I enjoyed it so much! I absolutely love Anne of Green Gables and you have inspired me to visit PEI someday. Thank you so very much.❤️
Thank you, Jill! I'm glad you enjoyed this one. Prince Edward Island was beautiful and I hope to go back. It is a very rural island and perfect for nature lovers and introverts. As an Anne of Green Gables fan, I know you would love it.
I can totally relate not reading certain classics until my 30's - like Little House on the Prairie as an example. It's nice to know I'm not the only one discovering and deep diving these classics in my 30's :) I still have yet to read Anne of Green Gables as well! I do have a beautiful short illustrated version of the first book, however. Maybe I'll put that on my reading list this summer!
I missed out on a lot of great books growing up, but I figured it's a good thing because I can still read them now and enjoy the magic. I have quite a few on my list. Maybe I should share some in a video this year. I really enjoyed Anne's bright optimism and her adventures (and misadventures). I have a feeling you'll really enjoy it. Happy reading!
The houses are to die for. 🥲🥹🌿🕰️♥️ The Trip must be a dream come true.🐚🌊
The houses there were a dream. All the pretty wallpapers. I used to rent a very old home and I miss the charm of an older house. It felt very much like the Anne of Green Gables I imagined.
Sooooo excited for this one!!
I hope you enjoy it! It’s a bit different than my usual posts and extra long, but I wanted to share it all in one slow travel vlog.
@ I absolutely LOVED this video!!
Thank you so much! I’m so happy you liked it. It’s a little different from my usual videos, but I loved making it. I’m afraid my next few videos will be boring in comparison. lol.
@@livelovely I’ll still be watching whatever you post haha! ❤️
@@Beanbugging Thank you for your support! I'm making big career changes this year and I'm hoping to post more consistently. In the spring I plan to be more intentional with how I film.
That rug is GORGEOUS! 😍
Thank you. It's perfect for this room. I'm so happy I went for a bigger rug to fill the space.
Absolutely gorgeous video! Gosh I loved every moment of it
Thank you so much! I'm happy to be sharing again.
What a beautiful and lovely video!🌼🦊🌊🐚♥️
Thank you. I'm looking forward to sharing the whole trip soon. I can see why L. M. Montgomery was so enamored with her home island. It is such a pretty place to explore. I felt some of what I imagine Anne must have felt entering the island for the first time.
@ Can’t wait to see more of your trip. 🥰🌊🐚♥️
Thanks a lot for the this wonderful video! I also love Little Women! Greetings from Brazil! 💖
I'm so glad you enjoyed it. Little Women is such a lovely story.
This is the sweetest and warmest video I've ever seen! Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄
Thank you! I appreciate your kindness. Merry Christmas!
Hi thanks for sharing ,very cozy ,please post more soon ,
Hi Mary, thank you! I promise to post more soon. My current job does not lend much free time. Making big changes this new year so I can return to more of what I love. I have some videos from late summer through now that I am working on and will share them soon.
When is this event b mystic ?
It is usually the weekend after Thanksgiving, but does change some years.
Beautiful Vlog! We have a groundhog at our family home too. His name is Gus the Groundhog 🤣
Love it! Gus and Gary would be friends. I think Gary might need a new name though. lol. Or she can still be Gary.
@@livelovely Haha Gary is so cute though!
Oh my gosh that rug in front of the red couch! Where is it from??
The rug was a gift from a neighbor and I love how whimsical it is. The rug is the Menagerie rug by Rifle Paper Co. I adore the Rifle Paper Co designs.
That view! Love the strawberry tea set. Everything is looking lovely!
Thank you! The cottage is really starting to feel like home now. I found the strawberry set from a company named Lang at Homegoods and I'm obsessed with everything strawberry or lemon. Thank you for your kindness and for visiting.
This is inspiring me to tackle spring cleaning, too.
I'm so happy to hear that. The thought can be daunting and sometimes I feel like putting it off (and I do!). It has felt good to at least start. Already I'm feeling more clear and less stressed.
Smart way to get away from the bear. Definitely should bring more reinforcements next time! I usually always hike with bear mace just in case. I hope I never have to use it. I would try every method I could before so 🥺
I might add bear spray to my bike basket.... lol
@@livelovely 😂 good idea!
The transition to the flowers is so magical! The music reminds me of a scene from a fantasy movie or studio ghibli 😍
Aww, thank you! <3 I started using Epidemic Sound for my music and I'm trying to choose joyful sounds in the hope that it makes people feel good.
@@livelovely Great choice! I also use them in my videos. They have such a lovely selection
Beautiful scenery!
im so glad youtube recommended me this video! i was just playing stardew looking for some background noise but i ended up with my eyes glued to the screen!! ur place is so cute and i love how you talk! literally the perfect video for stardew :3
Thank you for being so kind! I sometimes play videos on RUclips to have some background noise too. I really appreciate you. <3 I had to look up Stardew as I have not heard of it and now I want to play. It looks like such a fun game.
The bookstores in concord are great and have great selections on authors ,history of the area and the gift shop at orchard house was wonderful and bought great selections for my library ,hope to come back to Concord soon ,
Mary, the bookstores in Concord really are amazing. I love a cozy New England book shop. I brought home quite a few books during my visit last autumn. I'm so glad you had a nice adventure too.
Hi loved my visit there and hope to go back soon ,thanks for sharing ,
Great video ,just spent a week at concord and loved it ,went to orchard house and the people there are very sweet and tell gerat stories and about lousia may alcott ,hope to come again soon ,
I live in a Van and it gets sooo cluttered so easily! It is incredibly frustrating since I am such a clean freak with OCD and Anxiety haha but I have given myself a bit of grace when it comes to things getting messy because that’s life! Things will get messy and you just have to breathe and put the pieces together. No need to be embarrassed, your house is beautiful! Also you look great in all of your clothing, even the ones you’re getting rid of. Please be kind to yourself. You deserve it! I am subscribing to follow your journey. So glad RUclips recommended your channel. Happy Spring! 💛 - Nnyji Side note, your black cat looks just like mine! 😻
Thank you for your kindness, Nnyji. I can definitely be very hard on myself. I think it comes from having to be a perfectionist and always cleaning in my childhood. But life does happen and it gets messy sometimes. Living in a van sounds lovely, but I'm sure it comes with a set of challenges. It does feel good to clear the clutter and tidy up. But I am also learning not to be mean to myself. I think that going through clothing can be triggering. I definitely would have kept some of the items I donated if I knew I could fit back into them. I'm still doing some tidying at home and focusing on not getting too carried away by perfectionism. I love that you have a little Bombay kitty too. My black cat's name is Madeleine. She is a sweet sensitive little soul. <3
@@livelovely understandable! Triggers are definitely different and much harder to work through. You are taking the appropriate steps for yourself ☺️ my cat is named Mr. Pickles! They are the sweetest!
@@Beanbugging Little by little. I love your cat's name! My neighbor's cat is named Pickles. She is also a black cat.
I've been enjoying your videos. I can't believe you don't have more subscribers! As I watched your tea room tour, I have two suggestions. First, on the corner hutch/shelf unit... it might look better to have a bushy plant on the top shelf such as a fern (or artificial fern). It needs to look more filled in and I think the addition of a plant would help to bring nature inside. Next, I love that your hubby insisted on adding the window trim for you. His wink was cute because he knew you were going to discover it later. Love it. What about if you added a simple shelf to extend the window sills a bit? Just a couple brackets and scrap wood made to fit would do it. Then you could display a few more tea pots on the window sill to bring the room together even more. IDK. Just a thought. Can't wait for your next video.
Hi Scott, I apologize for the late reply. I had replied earlier, but for some reason it did not publish. Thank you for your kindness and encouragement. I love your ideas. I definitely plan on bringing more plants into this pace. It is feeling a bit empty right now, but I am just getting started. I like your windowsill idea, but unfortunately I'm just a tenant so we repaired it to how it should be for the house owner. I would like to put in a couple shelves though. I enjoy the tea pot display idea. I'm thinking some kind of little shelf that can display a couple, maybe even something with some tea cup hooks. Our budget is tiny, especially after tax season, but I am having a fun time thrifting items and shopping for this space when I can. Hopefully it will be all finished by summertime. Thank you for being here.
This video is so beautiful and has me feeling so sentimental about when I visited Massachusetts in the summer of 2022! I went to all the 2019 film locations and stopped by Emily Dickinson house (though it was closed at the time). My favorite Concord shop was definitely Barrow Book Store... I found a second edition copy of Little Women and had a long talk with one of the employees all about the history of the book, and she even gave me 'little women and little women wedded' magnet as a birthday present! Then while visiting Orchard House one of the tour guides overheard my dad say it was my birthday and she showed me a part of the house that is normally off limits to guests and I truly will never forget that experience. To end the day, I visited Louisa and left her and her whole family flowers and, as requested from everyone at Orchard house, said hello to her for them🥺❤️
That sounds like the most beautiful experience. I loved my visit and learning about the orchard as well. It felt magical seeing how Louisa had lived with her family at Orchard House. I have not been to the 2019 film locations or Emily Dickinson's home, but they are on my wish list! I also hope to make it to Edith Chase's house this summer in Massachusetts. So many wonderful authors in American History lived there. A few days after seeing Orchard House I visited Nathaniel Hawthorn's home in Salem, MA. So many wonderful literary adventures. I hope to visit Concord again soon. Your bookshop experience sounded lovely. The town is beautiful for a day trip or a weekend away. Thank you for sharing your beautiful adventures around Concord. <3
Beautiful!
Such a beautiful winter video Courtney! You are such a pure soul, it was so calming to watch and listen to while I worked today, keep being you and the whole world will shine back. I really needed some positivity today, thank you! P.S as a fellow collector of vintage plates I really appreciate your hutch aesthetic!! And I’m still very jealous that you got so much snow!! Long Island doesn’t get much anymore 😢
Thank you of your kindness and encouragement, Jamie! You are a positive force in the world. I didn't know that you also love vintage plates! The hutch is the hub of our little home right now. lol. We did get a lot of snow, but sadly a bunch of it rained away the other night. I'm wishing for more snow this winter.
A great job on your back splash. Great video! I wish we had a Trader Joe’s . Love to see the house garland from the bags. You cats are funny 😆
Thank you! I really like how it came out. The cats were having a grand time watching me set it up. There around about 5 Trader Joe's in my state, but all of them are an hour or over away. lol. I make a special drive once every other month or so for my favorite food and treats. I hope you have a wonderful holiday season!
I buy an ornament for each of my children (2) every year. My sons are all penguins. It has to be unique or doing something that reminds me of him. My daughter will receive an ornament that represents something she has done/learned during the past year. I looked into purchasing the Johnson Brothers 'twas the night dishes last year but they are pricey, I absolutely love the milk pitcher.
I love your ornament tradition, especially something that represents a meaningful moment of the year. That’s a fabulous tradition. My husband also loves the penguin ornaments. I was so surprised to see how much the cost of these dishes went up. It makes me a little sad because they used to be more accessible for families. They were a little expensive when I started collecting, but I was lucky to find some at Hone Goods. It took me almost five years to collect the set. Hopefully one day we will see more available to thrift.
Lovely ❤
I love watching your videos you’re so inspiring! ❤
Thank you, Maria! I appreciate you being here.
God creation is perfect. It is so beautiful.
I am so grateful for nature. We live in a beautiful world <3 With all that is going on around the world right now, I am thankful for the reminder. Sometimes it is so easy to focus on the bad and forget the good.
Very cool. When I moved to the country I tried growing apple seeds and now have a few big trees. They are about 8 years old. This year one of them produced my first apple! Yes just one! It was so cool. Good luck with your restoration or fungus work. Apple trees are dope! Glad you're reading up on how to do it right! Peace ✌...that caterpillar is a woolly bear
That sounds beautiful! I know they take quite a while for fruit to grow so I was happy to find these ones already here. I have a lot of work ahead of me planting my own mini orchard one day.

Thank you! This is one of my favorite autumn dresses. Unfortunately, it was a fast fashion buy about five years ago. I don't buy the brand anymore because I try my best to be sustainable, but I am happy rewearing it as much as possible.
What a lovely friends day outing. The shops all look so quaint. By the way, I love your outfit! It was perfectly autumnal. I am going to read the book you showed. Thanks for the tip.
It is the cutest little town to explore for a day. The walking trails are amazing too. It was a chilly day so I had to layer up with my favorite fall blazer. The Cider Mill Coven is a cute book. I'll be honest that I had a really hard time getting into it and it was slow going at some points and it reads more like a YA novel, which I was not expecting. However, I love the plot and I met the author who is very sweet and so creative. This book is her love letter to autumn in New England.
