Looked for a while to see if there was a video like this on the web. Didn't find one. My first attempt to do a video like this. I've done several other auto repair write ups on my blog, but they were done by writing and still photos. I know that I've most likely misspoke during the video, please take it in the spirit it's given. I'm allowing comments here, but won't allow you to rake me over th...

    Recently had my valley cover gasket replaced but they used the old coolant bypass lines. Worst of all they didnt put the metal spacers/gaskets back. Im pretty sure one of the ports is leaking significantly now. Could that be a possible problem for electrical issues at the back of the block? Considering thats where the engine ground is?

    damn I need to do this job on my tahoe in the spring. Guess I need to compile a list of gaskets and new parts. Looks like replacing everything all at once is the best move. Thanks for the video!

    Question when you removed the valley cover and you said the coolent bypass pipes did they leak when you disconnect them???? Will I need to add more coolant? I'm replacing the oil pressure sensor, camshaft position sensor, knock sensors and wire harness, Valley pan gasket. And valve cover gaskets. I already did the intake manifold gasket last year. I would love to get everything cleaned up.

      I'm struggling with the same problem but I'm losing a quart of oil every 2 days. My vehicle is almost identical 2005 Tahoe. Thank you for the tips on the Xtra gaskets needed for the valley pan . God bless. Great job on the video,,, again! Lol

    • @extorter
      @extorter 2 года назад

      Wish I could help more with your questions. About a year after doing the repairs, I had no leaks. Then I gave the truck to one of my sons. He still has it, but hasn't mentioned any leaks, so maybe it's still good. Regarding the gaskets, I'll see if I have any records on them, but I just moved and are most likely gone. If I find them I'll reply here when I do.

    Good job cleaning. I'm chasing leak in the rear of my 2002 4.8. Just got the tranny out. I'm going after: rear seal plate, valley, sending unit, & knock sensors. Already had replaced valve covers.

      Haven't checked in here for quite a while. I no longer own this old truck, my middle son is now the owner and it's still going strong the last time I checked. Made it all the way to Utah from California, then back and forth from Utah to California and then from Utah to Missouri. It's still a beater, but does what he needs it to do.

    Maybe u get this and hopefully can respond those intake gaskets do they work i ordered some and I was thinking that the steal shouldn't go between the heads and intake but how's it going 5 yrs later

    The best way to work on a truck this size is to take off the front wheels, you'll have better leverage...just my two cents 😉

    I noticed I was burning some extra oil on my 04 Sierra w the 5.3 and that it had a lot of buildup around the valve covers and under the intake plenum. After seeing where yours is dirty I think my valley pan gaskets shot too, this vid will definitely come in handy, thanks!

  • @lewis2553
    @lewis2553 3 года назад

    That's very encouraging! The way you describe yourself, you and I are about the same physically and agewise. You're a little younger. So I ought to be able to do this job. I only wish I was at home with my garage, instead of 1150 miles away in an apartment. It's a lot easier when you can just stop and clean up and go to bed and then resume in the morning. Here, you can't leave parts and tools lying around, or they'll walk off. Heck, the whole truck almost walked off one night. I wish it had! If I'd known I was going to have so much trouble with this truck, I would left it unlocked with the door open and the key in the ignition. A thief deserves such problems, but not me!

      If you're doing this to your truck I would recommend you taking your own advice. Unfortunately, I no longer have this vehicle. It was just a beater, not a show piece. I was more interested in it being functional and repaired than being pretty.

    Of course i come across this video AFTER i had my intake manifold off to replace my cam position sensor, oil pressure switch and knock sensors all in the same search for that elusive oil leak from the back of the engine. Replaced everything you spoke of except the valley pan gasket amd still have my leak. Time to do it again.
