Today to celebrate the mighty 201 class the RPSI have given us a lovely railtour featuring the 201 class and of cores an 071 managed to sneak its way on to the service as well (unfortunately some of the timelapse videos have bad quality. i cannot figure out why so it will have to do) 0:00 - cravans at inchacore 0:15 - Dublin Huston 2:09 - Dublin Huston to inchacore timelapse 2:34 - Newbridge 2:...

in 1994 the first 201 class (the most powerful, fast and heavy locomotive in Irish history) was delivered by airplane. the locomotive was part of a huge and badly needed investment in Irish railways. unfortunately many of the class where withdrawn long before they should have been due to the decline of loco hauled passenger trains in Ireland. however those that stayed in service certainly have ...

today we got the unique opportunity to film some trains from the top of glasneven tower. we saw 29000s in various locations including Broombridge, glassnevin junction, Drumcondra, croke park and that junction where the sligo line meets the line to Belfast. (I forget the name of that junction) considdering i only had a few miniouts in the tower I was very lucky to be there at the same time as a ...

Today we are at the small statin of Kilcock. this station is very poorly served compared to Maynooth just a few km down the line. the dart project well see the line to Maynooth electrified and a dart service put in. this is only supposed to go as far as Maynooth. however not all hope is lost as the new dart depo is supposed to be built in Kilcock. Where was 23:50 filmed ? Black Mountain?
it was filmed at 54°37'09.9"N 6°00'13.8"W. if you put that into google maps it should take you there. you can drive most of the way but you have to walk a small bit
Great compilation! MEGA LIKE Greetings from Dublin Andrew
thanks very much. greetings from Kerry
Irish steam locos were slow and there was never a proper 'express' during the steam era.
when?
What rubbish. The GNRI Vs did an average of 62.9mph on the Dublin trains, which for an 4-4-0 in 1932, that's pretty damn slick. The GSR's 800 class punched the clock at 96mph on the Cork to Dublin run. To claim they didn't have expresses in those days, or to suggest Irish locomotives can't keep up, is completely ridiculous and borders slander.
@andreA-Ke2id I have to disagree with you there. the GSR 800 class on many occasions where recorded above 100 mph. the class v of 1932 was a great majestic locomotive well able to pull trains of great size at very much so express speeds. the s class similar to that seen in this video where also super fast locomotives. 131 cannot really show off her speed properly on the Maynooth run but i ashure you that when she is on a line with a bit more space she can really punch it very fast.
indeed you are right. pretty Shure the GNRI VS locos where the fastest 4-4-0s ever built
Wow, what a huge upgrade. I remember using Great Victoria Street in November 2022, the last time I visited Northern Ireland, and thought, it's a bit cramped, hopefully the new Grand Central Station will improve things. It looks like it has achieved just that :)
it sure has. the new station is far more spacious
At last, a Rail-Hub for Belfast...hurray.
hurray indeed. the improvement in transport is monumental
om goodess . look at all the steamies !!! i mglad many were saved from scrap.
indeed it is very good they where saved from scrap. one of them was even a new build being built in 2021 i think
Excellent footage!
@@irishrailtrains thanks very much
These should all be preserved for everything that they're worth and shouldn't at all be in conflict with restpring our wetlands.
absolutely right. some sort of a tourist line would provide a lifeline to comunities around ireland.
All of our BNM lines should be preserved. The destruction of our Wetlands for peat extraction for 2% of the electricity grid capacity - no.
i agree. peat harvisting defnetly did need to stop however what BNM has done to its workers is unexeptable. preserving the railways would create a lot of jobs for the local comunity. also i belive it is important to remember the history of peat harvisting as though it was very bad for our one and only planet it for many generations was a lifeline to local comunities.
Lovely video, i was also at Lavistown but it was when the train was arriving into Kilkenny, also saw it at Kilkenny station and Gowran
thanks very much. i hope you enjoyed the day
I was conductor driver on the steam someone on the crossing delayed the run round couldn't lower the barriers they were in on the crossing
@@lincolnarmasols283 yes. I remember that. I was well stood back but not everyone was
Great video!
thanks very much
With the number of machines there it would take a day for the Grand Parade to pass.
indeed it would. hopefully we get the same amount next year
I remember years ago passing Inchicore outbound and on the right there were several really old engines just sitting there. Any info on what they were / where did they go?
Yes. Those locomotives where mostly old Sulzer locomotives which upon the introduction of the 071 class had been withdrawn. Rather than scrap the locomotives the decision was made to line them up to try and create a sound barrier to reduce the noise of passing trains from the houses next to the line. Some time in the 90s most of the locomotives were scrapped however Sulzer B103 from that line was preserved and is now at the Irish traction groups headquarters at Carrick-on-Suir awaiting major restoration. more information about that loco can be found hear: www.irishtractiongroup.com/itglocos/103 Another Sulzer locomotive B113 is now preserved at the ulster folk transport museum in Belfast. some more photos of these locomotives in the line at inchacore can be found in this album: www.steverabone.com/RailwayPhotographs/ireland_1984.htm hear is some more info regarding B113: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CI%C3%89_113_Class
@@fivefootthreetothreefoot Fascinating! I just spent at least 90 minutes looking at the info you sent, reminiscing, I'm so sentimental. Interesting to find out after 40 years what TL and S actually meant. Wonder what SA meant?! Zooming past Inchicore was such a thrill for me. You seem well informed - I was also wondering when CIE decided to scrap the A's, 141's, 121's - surely a lot of people would've wanted souvenirs, the Metro Vick or GM labels, a certain cab number, a whistle, a buffer beam perhaps, you know? I wonder where it all went?
Amazing collection of fab machinery.
indeed it was an amazing sight
Smashing footage of a great weekend at Stradbally!
thanks very much
Love our trains, old and new ❤️
indeed they are great. I imagine life would be very dull without them
Great video, I understand this was the last BnM ballast train, it was used to reballast a section of the Eastbound mainline at Cloncreen to improve the line the laden peat trains used for the tail end of 2023
@@narrowgaugeexplorer thanks. I wouldn't have known where any peat trains were without you
hang on a minute why do I recognise that 29000, Enterprise and 131 in the same clip. but this is a fantastic video for 30 years of the 201 class
Thanks very much. I don't know where that clip could be framiler from.
@@fivefootthreetothreefoot if that was during the easter train eariler this year then I would have been on that 29000

When in 2024 it it all stopping
unfortunately the last peat rake was last Thursday out of Belair bog. luckily there are still ash trains on the system out of edenderry i think evry day in the morning. there is also talk about transporting stone on some of the lines for building greenways. there is also still the ocaisional fuel train on parts of the system. there is also suposed to be lots of track lifing trains however alot of theese dont seem to be operating at the moment/ there is a very small chance that there might be some more peat on the edenderry system though it is very unlightly. a good lad to contact for mor information is sean cane on Facebook. facebook.com/sean.cain317/
Ar ther ane work gowing aun in the bogs now wher was this bog longford
this bog was just outside of edenderry. all the ones in Longford are unfortunately closed now.

Where's the peat wagons
in the bog. you hardily expect the RPSI to haul peat wagons on there trains that are the wrong gauge
Lovely video! What make/model of drone do you have? Looking to buy one myself maybe
Also, i'm guessing the land to the right of the shot at 7:00 is for the proposed dart depot, not sure though of course
the drone is a DGI mini 3. if you are buying I recommend also buying the controller with the screen on it as pairing a phone to it can be very slow which when a mark 4 suddenly appears from noware is not somthing you want.
@@irish_trains I could not say for sure but looking at this image www.dartplus.ie/S3mvc/media/DART-West/Emerging%20Preferred%20Option/DW-EPO-Depot-Site-GC.png id say its probably the land on the right of the track beyond the housing estate at 2:35. i could be wrong though
@@fivefootthreetothreefoot Thank you for the drone suggestion, I may look into it
@@fivefootthreetothreefoot the lands around 53.393919, -6.655816 seem to be the start of the depot site according to the image, which does appear to be beyond that housing estate 👍👍

thanks. the drone works well but landing it is terrifying

Nice video, what a rollercoaster of a day, seeing her wheel-slip while shunting 216 out of the way will never not be the coolest thing ever though.

Am I mean to laugh at that last bit with the person running hopelessly. 😅
the feeder bus was on time. the station signage is clear. the train was on time. I personally can laugh as the railway is not at all in fault.

Dromod is my family home land, my father Jack Shanley and his brothers worked at Dromod station during WW2, their job was transfering coal from the narrow gauge railway to mainline gauge. Now 70 years old, I just remember the narrow gauge rolling stock parked up at Dromod. I do realise that in the past 60 years, the rail road is mostly built over, so consequently, there is a very limited line for the heritage railway to run on. Sadly some of the very valuable steam locomotives have ended up in the USA and elsewhere. Not wishing to be too critically. How about a big clean up and get the scrap boy's in to clear out what is not related to the narrow gauge railway and bus travel. Dromod is forever in my heart. The Shanley's who worked at Dromod station were Jack Shanley (my father) and his brother Michael Frank, who was a signal man on the main line. Jack ended up in Mullingar as a signal man.
it is people like you who take the time to tell their story that makes railways such an interesting hobby. indeed, it would be lovely to devote the Cavan and Leitrim to its original rolling stock and rebuild the line. indeed, Dromod is a beautiful town today. I can only imagine what it would have been like during WW2 trying to keep Ireland running on arigna coal. thanks very much for taking the time to share your story.
Merry Christmas !!! sorry for being a few days late
