The flaw with you trying to read Miku's lips and thinking she says "You're not funny" is that she wouldn't be speaking English to Akane.

I don't go around saying they are "the best" but they are my favorite in the business.

Akane is the Japanese word for a flowering plant called dyers madder (as well as other names) in English. It has small yellow flowers and the roots have long been used to make red dye. It has been used to dye the tunic of British “redcoat” soldiers and the robes of Bhuddist monks. Aka means red and ne means root, but the name of the plant and Akane’s name is written as a single kanji character. ❤🦍

Non sequitur... consider what Kanami could do with a full orchestra and the Maids on the same stage ! Revisit Conquistador from the Procol Harem album with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra (1971) ! Kanami could ABSOLUTELY thrive in such an environment ! 😁

Thank you for this one Sir Rabbs-a-lot ! We had an exchange about Victor Borge in a previous video. Ah-kah-nay is my reason for clicking on my first Band Maid video (Freedom -live). Her beautiful,smiling face on the thumbnail was too much for me to ignore! Her comedic style reminds me of Lucille Ball, Jenna Elfman, and Kristen Johnston. Three other very attractive comedic actresses whose comedy elevates them into the IMPOSSIBLE to resist realm ! Beauty can lull you into a hazy dream state. Beauty with a comedic 'chaser' is an addictive substance ! The 'beauty' part is just the lure to get the 'fish to bite'. Once the the hook is in, she can do anything she wants with you. Akane is so very unaffected...I don't think she thinks about being irresistible... It's a simple byproduct of being HER ! ♥️

"The" best - don't know, I haven't heard but a fraction of "duets" - but I'm happy to say "One of THE best...", and if there are better, they're going to be freaking amazing! 😎👍🥰 It's not just Akane's duets with Misa, her duets with Kanami are also amazing - just listen to "HATE?", for example! That said, one thing that's struck me right from the start - I've maybe 8 years following the maids - is the way they seamlessly come in after breaks, where one had been solo-ing, they hit breaks so cleanly, and resume dead on the mark.

It makes me at least interested and entertained by your thinking! Fun to hear your voice after so long. I've enjoyed Markabusi's channel as well so thanks for highlighting him. Band-Maid's 'Don't You Tell Me ' recorded at their Zepp Tokyo performance has an incredible dialogue between bass and guitar that is like a heated argument. Reminds me of the 'Hate?' duet but with entirely different notes. Misa and Kanami are musical geniuses.

Any critic would have to get their band on stage and out bass Misa, otherwise be ignored.

Saike, (lead vocalist) wrote this song when one of her best friend's husband was caught cheating. It's not about an argument, it's about hate as in wish you would die.

Surf Rock? I wouldn't have thought that, but there does seem to be a little Dick Dale in Kanami. And the Andy Kaufman Congas ties it all together. Or Y'all could be trippin'. And they never thought any of that and just wrote a Break Up song and you're overthinking it. Who knows? Interesting though.

Interesting take. I see the back and forth between them not as a battle but as them showing each other how strong they are separately and even stronger together.

Yes. Although Band-Maid has their serious side, humor plays a huge role in the Band-Maid mystique. The high contrast 'Gap' concept of demure, servile maids playing face melting hard rock, the concert as a Maid Café Okyu-ji complete with Omajinai Time with the members trolling Miku as she leads the audience in nonsensical cheers for World Domination, and all the running gags surround each member's "Special Characteristics", all figure in Band-Maid's commitment to entertaining their audience. Band-Maid composes their music to be performed live and they're constantly trying to make each song a memorable scene in their Okyu-ji. When the "HATE?" bass/guitar duel appeared at Lollapalooza last year, everyone knew it was going to be a hit. Earlier that year I had seen them in Detroit and they played "Hate" just before they played "Unfair Game" which astonished the crowd and brought the house down. But they really wanted "Hate?" to be a bigger hit as it showcases Saiki's talent for writing lyrics and features some of Saiki's and Miku best vocal interactions, but it wasn't striking the audience as hard as they would like. Adding the duel was key to elevating "Hate?" to the next level. In anteceding performances (check out the fan cam videos) of "Hate?" you'll see Saiki and Miku fooling around with Akane during the duel. My favorite being Miku taking a drink from her water bottle, looking across the drum set at Saiki, and motioning her to give Akane a drink, which Saiki does! It's so funny seeing Akane leaning over to suck on the water bottle in Siki's hand! Of course, Akane never misses a beat!

My 16 year old daughter's first reaction to that piece was that it was a conversation. She called it that right off the bat without knowing or seeing much other BM music. So yes, it could easily be a frantic argument type of conversation. Well spotted I say!

Very nice. I will.say that it is hard to hear the "battle" as an argument given the huge smiles on their faces, but just based solely on the music, I am convinced that this is exactly what the terrible trio had in mind when composing.
