Is Hair Typing A Scam?| Natural Hair Community| Black Girl Vlog
Hair Typing: Harmful or Helpful| Natural Hair Community| Black Girl Vlog
Although it was created in the 1990s, Andre Walker's hair typing system, or the Hair Chart, introduced a method of categorizing hair that has become deeply ingrained in hair care - especially in the natural hair and textured hair communities. Referring to hair as "Type 3" or "4C" has become as commonplace as twist-outs and wash-n-gos. But is it really helpful? Is it really an attack on 4a/4b/4c hair? While some have credited the chart for simplifying their hair care journeys, others have criticized Walker's Hair Chart for its lack of scientific method and use in spaces promoting texturism. In today's Black Girl Vlog, ...

    I loved how you presented your points! I didn’t know about the origins of the hair typing system, and it was so insightful. As a 4c girl going natural, the hair typing system really saved my journey-it gave me more realistic expectations for my natural hair and made it so much easier to find tutorials online. Great video, keep it up! ❤️☺️

    I have the Coconut Oil shampoo and conditioner from Shea Moisture from Burlington for like $13 or so each but it's the really big 34oz size bottles and I wish Shea Moisture keep making them size bottles or atleast make collections like this in bigger size bottles or atleast the regular size and the big size separate for those with shorter hair and those for more long and luxurious manes.

    When do you have a bowel movement after mymomectomy? Is it ok if you strain a bit?

    • @MacktheMaverick
      @MacktheMaverick 4 месяца назад

      I had my first BM maybe two or three days after my surgery (if I recall correctly). First, it will take your body a little while to "wake up" from the anesthesia, which affects your digestion and breathing. Second, some of the meds cause constipation. Take your stool softeners and try to keep fiber in your diet. I also found our Squatty Potty to be helpful. You really don't want to strain much. Your muscles will have gone through a lot and it's painful.

      Is open myomectomy for multiple fibroid better for someone that wants to concieve in few months or laparoscopy myomectomy

    • @MacktheMaverick
      @MacktheMaverick 3 месяца назад

      Hi! I'll preface my response by saying every situation is different, so I can only speak from my experience (and those I've talked to). My surgery was open because it absolutely had to be. Most people say that the laparoscopic surgery is definitely preferable because the recovery is better. Even having had the aggressive open surgery, I was told I could try to conceive after six months. I've heard others that have had the lap version say 3 months, 6 months, or even up to a year. Again, it really depends on your individual circumstances and what your doctor recommends. And if you're ever unsatisfied with an answer and you are able, there's nothing wrong with getting a second or third opinion.

      Hi! These are great questions. I was a little afraid, as it was my first time having major surgery and my second time being put under. My family and team did an excellent job of setting me at ease. Once the anesthesia starts working, you won't be scared. Lol. I remember being rolled into the hall and waking up in recovery. Nothing in between. Yes, you can have it on your period.

      Thank you. Did you stomach better smaller once it was removed? I have 18 cm and belly is big .How many days off from work did you need to fully recover ?

    • @MacktheMaverick
      @MacktheMaverick 5 месяцев назад

      Yes, my stomach did shrink some. I had a 16 week uterus going into my surgery and ended up losing 16 pounds the first two weeks. As far as work is concerned, because I freelance, I wasn't really on a set timer to come back. That said, you have to consider the type of work you do and the environment you work in. The general recovery window for this surgery is 6-8 weeks (no heavy lifting or strenuous exercise before 6 weeks). I would say I was mentally prepared around week 2 or 3, BUT I was still battling fatigue, gas, and shortness of breath. Also, I didn't drive for those first couple weeks. (If you're interested, I documented recovery here: ruclips.net/video/L3pUIIdY_nk/видео.htmlsi=CB_dt4BIwlnfr6MK)

    Great video! I’m in my 40s without children. I was diagnosed in 2021. At that time, my biggest fibroid was 5 cm. I was told to let be. Symptoms got worse last yr, which included heavy, gushing blood flow with huge blood clots (around 3 inches), days of alternating In diarrhea and constipation. I was told by 3 gyno to get hysterectomy. Since I still have hopes of having a baby, i didn’t want that… In Sept 2023, I had another ultrasound. My biggest fibroids had grown to 9 cm. I changed gyno at beginning of this yr. I’m now 4 weeks post robotic myomectomy. My gyno took out 3 fibroids with biggest one being 10 cm. I also had scar tissue on my bladder & colon. Hence the GI issues. I viewed many videos & started following @wecanwearehite on instagram as well as @fibroidfoundation. Not many discuss how expensive it is! Nor the pain of the gas leaving one’s body post surgery. The meds managed my stomach pain but there are no meds for the pain felt of the gas leaving your body. I felt the pain on my chest, shoulders, neck and back. By gas I mean the gas they pump into you to blow you up to perform the surgery. Good luck everyone on their journey. It took years but I’m happy I did it. ❤

      Word! I might grab the suede cleaner in the fall. Some of my boots need a little TLC.

    I use Curlsmith Bond Curl Rehab Salve. It is a pre shampoo treatment. I was watching your review to help determine if I will invest in the Shea Moisture line. I’m looking for more strength, as I have SO many moisturizing products. Thank you so much!

      Thank YOU so much for watching! And I might have to try that Rehab Salve - I'm looking for another good pre-poo.

      If I may ask, how do you like the curlsmith bond salve? I skipped it and got the protein cream and the volume foam… now idk if I should’ve gotten it 😫

    This was a very thorough review; here is my feedback: - I absolutely loved your explanation and background of the specific "sciencey" ingredients and what they do. I feel like most reviewers do not touch on the science of how the ingredients work (I always end up researching it on my own). So thanks for that. - The length and quality of your video is perfect. I love longer more detailed oriented videos and watched its entirety. I also appreciate the timestamps, which are very very valuable, not just for jumping ahead but revisiting information. - Your personality and video presentation style is quite professional and brainy. Totally gives Professor Mack vibes lol I could see you giving lectures in an academic setting for sure. - I appreciate your honestly and hope your channel grows! I also hope you were compensated appropriately because I just know this was a lot of work to film. I'd suggest dropping a way to donate for the purposes of your efforts in making quality videos for this channel. My verdict: 8.5/10 I definitely gave this video a like and will be purchasing the masque and possibly the leave in conditioner/ the rinse-out conditioner in the near future based on your review. I have chemically straightened hair that is approaching midback length and it could use some extra help on the ends due to damage from misusing heat in the past and a chemical double process on the last 4 inches of my hair. Hopefully this will "repair" my damage which is mainly dryness, dullness, and occasionally mild breakage (I have no split ends which is very surprising but I'm lucky). The ends of my hair are kind of a dark reddish brown (level 3 or 4) rather than 1b like my roots.

      It means SOOOO very much that you took the time to not only watch this but to offer such detailed feedback. I'm still growing and feeling way through these RUclips streets! Every tip helps me to keep doing the things y'all like, and tweak the things that aren't working. I was relaxed for 15 years - I do understand the delicate nature of processed hair for sure. I hope it works well for you! (And I will consider some sort of "tip jar." Outside the product, this video was not monetized in any way. And yes, it was a lot of work. Lol! But viewers like you make it worth it the effort. )

      @MacktheMaverick Absolutely! Thanks for your reply. Luckily I'm not relaxed I have Japanese Hair Straightening so the chemical is Ammonium thioglycolate rather than Sodium Hydroxide for example. So the bonds are restructured rather than broken down permanently. So I'm thinking this should work lol. And I wish you the very best with your channel! I could see you have a ton of subscribers in the future.

    Shea moisture just put out two new oils Rosemary & Vegan Collagen Strengthening Scalp & Hair Oil and Biotin & Multi-Peptide Anti-Hair Fall Scalp & Hair Oil. Do you mind doing a review on those? The ingredients looked pretty standard for what their purpose is but as you’ve stated in this video, the main thing tends to be lower on the ingredients list which is similar in these two new oils as well.

      Hi! I just heard that they had been released a few days ago myself. As soon as I can get my hands on them and test, I've got you. Requests help a lot, so thanks for asking!

      Hi!👋🏾 I am not in science. I've just always had a love for research - and a deep desire to make sure I help folks make the most educated decisions possible. Thanks so much for the watch and the kind words!
