Testing Success of Firing Pots Vertically
Просмотров 7413 года назад
I needed to know if I could find a pot standing up on its end and get a result that would work. I suspected that not having the feet of the post resting on the kiln shelf would allow the pot to warp. Let's see what happens.
Glaze Tile Display Board

Time to update the board I use to display my glaze sample tiles. I make tiles when I experiment with new glaze combinations, not just when I buy a new color, so I always have new glazes to put up. Here's my quick update to my board. Maybe it will help you think about how you might organize your glaze samples.

    It would be more helpful if you would have had the variables consistent. Using hours first of all and explaining your location to identify possible humidity. Then not covering again with plastic prior to the last demonstration. You needed to use the clay you were holding out for amount of water as your example.

    • @aaronstratten9594

      This is steel "stovepipe" wire, probably 18 gauge. You can do the same process with aluminum wires as well, which is much easier to move and bend.

    Re: drain hole placement - doesn't that create a pooling area in the center bottom of the pot? Root-rot is always one of my biggest problems with pots.

    • @aaronstratten9594
      @aaronstratten9594 2 года назад

      The drain holes are spaced across the flat bottom of this pot. If you are building your own, place them where it seems best for your needs. (and try a soil mix that drains better)

    beautiful work, could I please know what solution is in the jar to join the pieces? could I also know if the wooden boards used are on the market? I guess they must have special characteristics. Thank you

    • @aaronstratten9594
      @aaronstratten9594 2 года назад

      The soft material used to join pieces together is called slip - just the same clay thinned with water to a paint-like consistency. I bought the boards at my local home improvement store where they had different thicknesses to choose from.

    What kinda clay are you using for Strong durable pots that will not break during Winter I'm using 266 and 112 dark Brown and speckled?

    • @aaronstratten9594
      @aaronstratten9594 2 года назад

      I use both of those and others on occasion. As long as you fire these to cone 5 they should be vitrified and be very durable through all seasons.
