    Its amazing how he still continues to lie about his policy , he wanted Israel to keep Sinai as part of his policy of removing Soviets from Egypt . Hafez-Ismail told him that Egypt would be willing to make peace for Sinai and Kissinger didn't care until after Israeli elections . He has made a whole proposal called sovereignty for security where Israel takes part of Sinai for security in return for recognition of Egypt's sovereignty over Sinai . Nixon himself told Golda when she complained about Rogers plan that they should only give the impression that they want a solution while doing nothing .

      @hannahlarson1813 2 года назад

      True, the USA foots the bill for nearly 20% of Israel's military budget. However, when we fairly compare US military aid to Israel with US military aid to other countries its not so alarming or unusual. Most studies comparing US military aid to other countries do not take into consideration the benefits countries such as Saudi Arabia or Qatar receive by the large physical presence of the US military. This is clearly a huge benefit to these countries and a huge cost to the USA. Also note that the US spends $36 billion annually on military capabilities in Europe, almost 10 times its annual assistance package to Israel. This is of course several countries and countries with which the USA is obligated by treaties to protect, unlike Israel. We also must consider risk and sacrifice of US soldiers beyond the financial burdens. In Asia, the United States has some 30,000 troops based in South Korea, where they lie in easy range of a nuclear-armed dictatorship to the north. Another 50,000 US soldiers are stationed in Japan. Across the Pacific theatre there are approximately 400,000 American soldiers and civilians deployed to counter threats such as nuclear armed North Korea and to contain China. The USA is able to control Israel through this aid such as signing deals that prevent Israel from selling certain weapons and technology to China and other American rivals. Israel is also obligated to use a large portion of this aid money to purchase US made weapons, a move that aids the US weapons industry but not Israel's. In fact, some in Israel call for Israel to not accept the full package of aid from the USA, and instead purchase more Israeli made equipment.

    The IDF was familiar with Sagger missiles but was not prepared for their widespread use. When Egypt crossed the canal in 1973 sagger teams surprised IDF tanks and presented a tactical challenge for Israeli armed forces. Egyptian infantry were also equipped with RPG-7 shoulder missiles which actually decimated more IDF tanks than the Sagger.

    It seems poor tactics to have not used an artillery screen in the first place. Isn't that standard SOP for both NATO & Warsaw Pact armies... and their respective Allies? I know the IDF counted on their extremely efficient air force to provide a lot of screening but still, artillery can place far more explosives in a given area than several bombs. And despite the IDF religiously practicing lightning-quick turnaround times... artillery should always be in anyone's order of battle.

      Actually, this is one of the things we try to teach the player. On Oct 8th head of Southern Command, Shmuel Gonen calls the commander. The commander (player) has the option to ask many different questions about the validity of Gonens "North to South Rolling Plan". One question is about lack of artillery because this was a key element that historically was missing from the counter attack and contributed to its demise.

      Sadat was a brilliant leader and played all the other world leaders who grossly underestimated his abilities. He managed to cozy up to the USA while maintaining support from the USSR. By crossing the canal and breaking the myth of Israeli invincibility, Sadat was able to eventually bring Israel to the negotiating table and reclaim Sinai through the cold peace agreement that was signed between the two countries in 1979. So, while Israel did achieve a decisive victory in the Yom Kippur War by surrounding the 3rd Egyptian army, Sadat also achieved his limited goals and eventually reclaimed Sinai.

      @@sagger3967 And Golda was a brilliant leader that begged Nixon to "save Israel" who had "mommy" weakness issues and because of that he gave Israel every weapon the US had in the most outrageous direct intervention in the war. The US refusal to do the same for Ukraine shows the length Nixon has gone to save Israel. Egypt has defeated Israel but recognized it cannot defeat the US and Israel combined. So basically the US forced a cease fire on both sides. The 3rd army's situation is an overstatement as they had food and water from the canal and Israel's casualties made this surrounding unsustainable as Israel knows quite well that this would have turned into a long term war of attrition that they cannot win, especially with Bar Lev line destroyed. To prove my point, the fact that Israel couldn't keep any part of Sinai, let alone the positions they had proves that Israel has lost the will the continue the fight so that decisive victory claim is not supported by any common sense. Sadat's limited goal was 15 KM. He ended up having 200 KM and a no aggression treaty on top of it. I'd say that's an outstanding result for Egypt. Check out the allied' s casualties in Normandy and this will let you know the magnitude of the Egyptian achievement vs. Bar Lev Line.

      @@Planet_Xplorer The delivery of weapons to Israel arrived so late into the war that it really didn't contribute to any of Israel's achievements in the Yom Kippur War. Also, Israel ended up finding stockpiles of 105 shells that could have allowed it to carry on the fight much longer. On the other hand, Egypt and Syria were receiving a nearly unlimited supply of weapons from the Soviet Union. However, the delivery of weapons was important to Israel to make sure its stockpiles were brought up or above pre-war levels to ensure that it could survive another round of fighting in the future. Even though the Egyptian 3rd army was eventually surrounded by the IDF, Sadat indeed shattered the aura of Israeli invincibility by the successful crossing of the canal and broke Israel's will to continue fighting for this land every few years. This culminated in the cold peace agreement in 1979 whereby Egypt reclaimed all of Sinai diplomatically and cozied up to the United States. Like you said, an outstanding result for Egypt. Regarding the Bar Lev line, the great generals of histories past (including the modern Ariel Sharon) were all against this type of defense to block a major attack. The Bar Lev Line was essentially a static, cordon defensive line which should only be used to block minor raids, not full scale invasions. Given the glaring intelligence alerts pointing to all out war with Egypt, Israel should have prepared for a large scale invasion and not relied on the Bar Lev Line manned by new recruits to block an attack by several Egyptian Divisions. This was a major mistake made by Israeli high command that took the lives of thousands of their soldiers. In the sagger simulator, players can avoid the mistakes of Israeli high command by reacting differently to the intelligence alerts pointing to war by mobilizing and preparing to repel the attack, or launching a preemptive strike.

      @@sagger3967 Even if Israel did not ignore the intelligence reports it wouldn't have been able to do anything because the Egyptians have built one of most sophisticated SAM defenses in the world at that time despite Israel's relentless efforts to destroy it. The Egyptians were simply building them faster than Israel's ability to destroy them. As for the other claims, this short video shows you how dire the Israeli situation was: ruclips.net/video/WxDRoo36dXs/видео.html Anyway the Israelis can enjoy the great victory in your video game. Perhaps this will make them feel better. In the meantime Egyptians enjoy their Sinai in real life.
