Fossil Hunting for Giants in North Texas
In this video, I am exploring the duck creek formation in North Texas on Lake Texoma. I am looking for ammonites and bivalves in the shale that make up the banks of this lake.

Petrified Wood in Texas
Просмотров 36828 дней назад
I explored the catahoula formation, which runs all the way from south texas to east texas, it has some really interesting geology. Including petrified wood that formed in a very rich silica environment creating interesting peices. As well as uranium that is found in ash deposites and has been mined in south texas, hopefully I can explore that at some point too. in this video I found some petrif...
East Texas Fossil Hunting
Просмотров 282Месяц назад
Went fossil hunting on the brazos river in east texas, found a bunch of cool stuff, watch to the end to see everything I found. The rock unit is the cook mountain formation, the section I am looking at was exposed by the recent flooding of the brazos river, so there was a lot of untouched fossils. The age of the rock was the paleogene, specifically the eocene epoch, putting most of the ages bet...

How long did you soak it in the formula
@@tanmancrowe4897 little bit over 24 hours
Bro u sure u didn't just buy it cause... 1) You don't know how to use the tool 2) You didn't give enough force 3) there was already a crack there
Well you got me, although I promise I didn't buy it, (dug it out the ground right there) I did break it open off camera first, which is why it looks so fake in the video. Good eye tho!
Lmao.......
Fossilized wood was created from the great flood
So, it can be created by floods, but by using modern radioactive dating techniques, we can actually figure out when it was deposited, and for these, they are about 30 million years old. During that time there isn't much evidence for a world wide flood, but in the area I found the wood there was one that carried a bunch of volcanic ash from new mexico and arizona, which is what agatized this wood.
5:28 So when that is cleaned up what dollar value would you put on that? It's so huge. Are they all that big. What is it an ancient snail?
I've seen ones of similar size and quality go for 150-300$ although the hard part is finding someone to buy it. Not all are that big, they range in size from smaller than your pinky to bigger than a fully grown person (not that big here in texas). And as far as what it is, it's an ammonite, a extinct relative of the nautilus, basically a squid that had a snail like shell.
Fake. Fossils isnt real. The Earth and sky is only 6000 years old according to the Lord, Jesus Christ. And any disagreement is considered blasphemy and will condem you to hell.
Good to know, what is it then?
@@thenathanthomas its fabricated. They made it themself. Idk how long something would take to turn from living to stone, but it would be more then 6000 years. Therefore its not possible. Fake. And only blasphemers and anti-christ belive its older than 6000 years.
@@thenathanthomas a sculpture. They made this to spread false evidence of evolution. And as intelligent people know, evolution is a hoax. We were created in God's image 6000 years ago when He created the earth.
It's ancient fossil. Not petrified.
It is certainly petrified, which is also fossilized. It's kinda like the square, rectangle thing. Petrified wood is always considered fossilized, but not all fossilized wood is considered petrified. This one had its cellular structure replaced by an agate, making it "petrified."
Dang those things are stronger than I thought they were. I'm up near Gilmer and they're along every creek.
Some of them are deceiving, they break a lot
nice
Scary.....subscribed
Thanks!
Striations are a heating element of the growths that fallow a few rules of formation to understand the striations like crystal and metal's gravity and pressure on the building blocks so pyrite is a very popular form
Full of violent Bigfoot
Hundreds of em
I live in NE Texas and would love to know where in E Texas you found those. I’m always looking for fossils and/or shells on my 121 acre property.
I'm more in south east texas, I'm on the brazos river in this one
Watch hang man 11 28
I'll watch it if you take a history of the geologic earth course at your local community college.
Wow, bit weird. Did it tarnish after being exposed to air? Almost looks like tin.
Nope, no tarnishing yet, when I got home and tested it turns out it was indeed pyrite, so "fools gold" is what caught my eye, still pretty cool tho.
😧 that’s so cool
Sure is!
How long does it take? That looks like it has been cut with a saw?🤔
So the reason it looks like it has been cut by a saw is because the quartz that filled the wood grains fractures along planes, when put undre stress. These logs are about 30 million years old, from the oligocene period, and have only seen humans after being petrified.
That is cool...
Thank you
I'm in east texas and done ever find em that big
@Bigfoot903Outdoors it was my first time finding one that big, I read about them possibly being in that area, so had to check it out!
What if any purposes can you use these for? Or is it like a regular fossil an its just like an artifact if you will? Like are these solid an hard? Like something you could make knife handles out of?
Well as far as uses I've seen people make furniture, knife handles, and even a house out of it, but you can also use it to look at the cells of the ancient tree, if you cut a really thin slice.
@@thenathanthomas ok cool, I was thinking about scales for a knife handle. Appricate the video an response!
Neato
Definitely!
I have a couple big chunks of different kinds of petrified wood my late brother used to collect crystals and petrified wood and other old stuff I was wondering is petrified wood worth anything money wise also I absolutely love the name of your channel my late brothers name was NATHAN
Depending on the type and size it can be worth a few hundred
Man if that exists you i can show you truck loads. that has been saw cut by the way
Broken. Not saw cut. Lol.
There is tons of it, that's for sure, and the reason it looks saw cut is because the minerals in the wood will break along planes creating smooth breaks.
Those are some huge chunks to find
The crazy thing is they can be even bigger
Dude that’s an awesome find ! Have you found more in those woods before ?
It was the best find of the day, that was the first time I'd checked out that spot, but found a good amount of peices.
I know nothing about wood. Why is this cool? All I see is a broken tree branch. Can somebody explain?
So these are cool because they are from the oligocene period, roughly 30 million years old, and have been fully replaced by an agate, preserving the wood.
@@thenathanthomas oh. That is cool. Thank for the info!
Anytime!
This thread is wholesome
@@turbidpie8525 that is because this thread only contains adults 😂
I found a fossilized piece of log with grain and branches off of the heart/core . that's just one of the fossils that I found ,i probably have enough for a small exhibit at a museum !😏👍
Now that's an awesome find!!
That would make my week finding such a nice piece with a knot in it.
It definitely made mine
Is this petrification?
It sure is!
Very cool. Great piece.
Thank you kindly
You sell m ?
Not at the moment, not 100% but it might be illegal
You are a full log
Heck you probably will find a whole log if you’ve already found those pieces awesome keep looking
I found some bigger pieces, should post them in a day or so, but no full logs yet, I'm planning on going back tho, so hopefully I'll find one.
Wow, you can do many beautiful things for the home with it, You are very lucky to have it like that on the floor, we don't have it, much love from Israel
Thank you, it sure is abundant here! But actually yall do have some petrified wood over there in the Negev desert you aperantly can find it in the HaMakhtesh HaGadol formation. It's not as common and not opalized like we have here, but there are some interesting specimens found.
@@thenathanthomas יI traveled in the Negev several times, and found shells and crystals, I didn't see a petrified tree, I need to check more, but how do you even know how to pronounce "the great crater"המכתש הגדול״ in Hebrew and Negev? you know Hebrew? you are really smart
@user-vm6qx2mx5z I don't know Hebrew, I just read a lot of papers, when I was doing research on petrified wood I came across the formation in Israel, it's pretty interesting. But that's really cool, it would be awesome to look around there, what types of shells did you find?
@@thenathanthomas יHi, sorry for the time, it was Shabbat with us and it is forbidden to use electricity on Shabbat, , in the mountains of Elat and in the great crater there are all kinds of fossils, there are mountains with black stones, stones that have been burned by the sun, and then the fossils that have them are just like snails but the structure of the shell is different and hollow and thin, , I also found a fossil of a really big snail the size of two fists, with The creature that is fossilized there, I found half a fossil of an ammonite, with crystals inside, I found a lot of ammonite, that sea lions abound there, and fossilized sea urchins, But it's more in the Negev region and the Eilat mountains, In the area where I live in Judea and Samaria there is not much, we have goths from the 2nd and 1st Temple period, there are potsherds, there is the altar that Joshua ben Nun bena who entered the land after Shemshe Matek, there is a water well near the house from the 2nd Temple period, and that's about it
Thank you for the information and stories they are really interesting im going to have to do more reaserch on the area for sure! I'm definitely jealous, keep exploring and I'd always like to hear more!
Wait ima need the explanation on the sick shiny logs again
My bad, I kinda got distracted by the other peice, but basically the logs get covered by silica rich sediment, in this case it's a quartz rich sand with some traces of volcanic materials. And then over time the preasure of the surrounding material will force silicon into the cells of the log, filling and replacing the organic material, leaving the perfectly preserved peices. You can even see the individual wood cells if you look under a microscope.
Where at on the brazos?
The 21 bridge
That’s cool
Right?
The Flood answers all the questions regarding fossils.
Wich flood?
@nicolabreuss328 the brazos river has been flooded lately because of rains in north texas.
It sure does, but sometimes it exposes new questions.
I hope the future species of the planets find me like that and say ima keeper too 😢
Depends on how you get preserved
It looks like Kwasant
It sure does, it's an ancient cone snail.
Just gotta find another one then you got yourself a free pair of beyblades to battle with 😂
🤣🤣🤣 exactly
wym did he survive its a fossil?
A lot of them end up breaking apart during deposition.
@@thenathanthomas ohh
Nice
Thanks!
I’m out there a lot and I’ve always wondered what causes the ripple in the limestone down in the creeks. What’s the reason for that rippling??
It's a combination of things, the limestone is more resistant to weathering than any sandstone or shale that may be interbeded, so that goes first, and then the limestone will chemically react with the water and eventualy dissolve, leaving the pattern, although, the current of the river is what stretches it out, in more stationary bodies it can form pockets of water eroding away the limestone, being much more circular.
North padre?
South padre
Very very good video!!!!!😊
Thank you!
They’re quite edible buddy ….pan fry with garlic and butter
I'll leave that to you, just don't eat the tentacles
In South Africa we call them Blue Bottles. They give a person a burn turning inflamed with its poison. If stung, rub raw seaweed on the affected area. If seaweed is not available, use your own urine to wash the affected area. The can't move anywhere when beached.
Urine has shown no actual benefit, and will probably cause infection, best to stick with numbing cream and hydrogen peroxide.
