Beautiful!
the quality is surpisingly good coming from a 13yo phone! it looks quite similar to what i can get from my point and shoot digicam!
love the comparison and aesthetic in this video! kodak looks good to my eyes for landscape due to the "softer" look, but fuji also looks good in its own way!!
Thanks for this helpful video. I think I prefer the warmer tones of the Fuji 400, but the Kodak is not bad!
I don't know if it's because of some filter applied during the editing of the video, but the foliage in the first part of the video seems pretty yelloish to me. If it's not because video editing maybe a yellow filter would have produce a more noticeable effect :)
Hey, thanks for the comment, that’s indeed from the digital camera filming. But yes when Autumn comes, a yellow filter can be amazing for foliage.
Great video and lovely photos. Your voice is very soothing. I love shooting film
Excellent video
Legit! thank you!
Thanks for the reminder to save my settings! You saved me a TON of time! After the update, I had a moment where the card was not being seen by the camera. I powered down, pulled the card and re-inserted it. Powered up and it was fine. You know your settings are loaded correctly when you go to your copyright info, in the stills section, and your info is there. Updated to 1.0.6.1.
Glad I could help!
4:38 Sandisk has corrected their mistake. I was one of those with the bad batch and they replaced it under warranty with no problems. The new ones going out do not have the same problems.
Good to know. I far more enjoy the design of the Sandisk.
Criminally underrated video, thank you for making this. Has helped me a lot with organizing my negatives in Lightroom, and understanding how to optimize the process of negative lab pro.
lightroom masterclass! thanks
Another wonderful presentation. Thank you RS. Canada
Robin, I found your video by Googling to see who else thought the 4S was a great picture taker, especially the panoramas it was able to capture. Today I am reviewing some of those panoramas I captured years ago, and I believe they could compete with anything the iPhone 15 could capture today. No, they may not have the dynamic range, but the fine pixel-level detail is truly astonishing. I think it is because models after the 4S (with more megapixels) implemented noise reduction algorithms which blurred away this fine detail. I really enjoyed the work you put into this video about your "love" of the 4S. Special cameras (like your Yashica Mat) can help us capture and more fully appreciate the world around us. Thank you
It was a great camera! The iPhone 5S was really good too. It's when they released the iPhone XS that they started doing very strong processing. Since my iPhone 13Pro, I don't like the result I get when shooting jpeg and only shoot raw dng.
Excellent video. Thank you RS. Canada
Where stands your catalogus?
the Lightroom Classic Catalog? It used to be on an external ssd. Now it is stored on my internal SSD.
The only dummy battery for 8k60 you mention in your video. Just before saying there is not one. The Canon DR-E6C DC Coupler for EOS R5 C. I have seen a few other videos using that with an Anton Bauer P-Tap to Canon 9V Regulated Connector (p/n 8075-0271) anton-bauer-8075-0271-p-tap-canon / 8075-0271.
I don't know...I'm looking at the data sheets, and there's enough of a difference to me that the Fuji, while being made by Kodak, is not UltraMax. It's not a massive difference, but there also wasn't a huge difference between Superia 400 and UltraMax. I figure Fujifilm is having Kodak make it to their spec for international sale, especially since they're putting film back on shelves in Japan, but not really everywhere.
I don't think we'll ever know. The idea behind thoses videos was to show the difference in every day scenarios and which one photographers like better. It also good to remember than these film stocks aren't professionnal but consumer stocks. Even between different rolls of that same new Fuji 400, I've experienced different results.
Thank you. Very well done. I have 2 questions: what if you don’t have such a big adobe cloud space? Would it still work if you only have 20 gb? Also, my Lightroom is now full of random photos I take on my iPhone. I want it to have only photos taken with the camera. Right now, any random picture is there. It’s a mess. Please advise. Thank you!
20Gb of cloud might be a bit short for this workflow. But in the end. It depends how much you shoot and what kind of camera you are using. The new interface of Lightroom Mobile (on your phone) can be quite confusing. The first tab (called device), indeed shows you the images present in your camera roll but they are not on the Adobe Cloud. However, if there are random images in the second tab (called lightroom with the cloud icon) then you need to remove them from the Adobe cloud because it uses the Adobe cloud (20gb in your case). You can batch select the images and delete them from the cloud.
@@robinferand thank you. I found the switch on the app settings to remove the automatic upload from the iPhone. Thank you!
Great video. I have a very similar workflow. I don't use Lightroom Classic but I use Lightroom CC on all my devices. It simplifies this further. But I know LCC is not for everyone. I also create my album first and then import into it, effectively removing a few steps.
Thank you. There are still key features in LrC missing from Lr but for simplified organization workflow, Lr is more that sufficient since the editing tools are quite similar to those found in LrC.
Simple. Object based. Meter on the object you want to be. Thats why slide better for product, portrait, object and geography
Outstanding tutorial! Thank you so much for the detailed instructions & visuals!
Glad I bought the cinelite, just waiting for my slides to be shipped from out of country.
Not sure how much sense it makes to compare with two different lenses...
Hi, it was the same lens. I would take a photo on the first camera then swap the lens. back and forth.
@@robinferandThe photos are labeled 28mm and 35mm though?
In the words of Claude Rains - who played the role of Captain Louis Renault in the movie Casabanca - "I'm shocked!, shocked!, to find that gambling is going on in here."
Your colour grading of the digital footage is absolutely amazing😮. How can I replicate this? What are your settings/ luts?
No luts. It was either film convert or Dehancer pro
I think your effort was very worthwhile. Nothing beats a performance verification, to actually replicate a real world scenario with a test setup to determine and compare actual behaviour or characteristics, instead of only looking at data sheets. Looking at data sheets can be helpful, but is not always conclusive. Now we 'know' these stocks are almost the same, otherwise we would suspect only.
Many thanks for the comparison, very helpful. You made some beautiful images along the way, great to see that environment in Canada. Makes me want to go there!
Sorry about the beginners question. If you do the reading with your Nikon F3 do you still need to overexpose?
I find the f3 light meter is able to view through the filter and expose correctly in most cases. But It doesn’t hurt to slightly overexpose just to make sure.
@@robinferand thanks for the reply. I appreciate it. I'll give it a try.
I watched the whole video. Thanks for making such a comprehensive review!!
Most people I know from BC don't have the sexy french accent.
The GFX 100 cameras are actually amazing for photos though!!
Thanks for the very enjoyable video. One minor point though - the mirror lock-up was highly valued by amateur astronomers, as the vibration from mirror slap could degrade images taken at high power through telescopes of the moon, planets and stars. Also, in case you've missed it, there is a RUclips video on how to easily re-calibrate the SRT101 so that it can use modern day batteries for its light meter - so that it can be used in the way it was intended. ruclips.net/video/DYaKaJs8nOI/видео.html&t Regards.
Hey there, thanks a lot for your message! It couldn't come at a better time. Lately, I found that the meter inside my srt-101 was giving me wrong results. I think the mercury battery is dying and I wasn't sure how to make it work with a recent battery. I'll try that out!
@@robinferand No problem. Glad I could help.
Orange filter for portraits? Everyone will look like a ghost:)
I do not know why people assume that if this Fuji film is manufactured in a Kodak plant it has to be just a rebranded Kodak film. Fuji is big enough, and has a wealth ofdata from their own factories to be able to give the recipe to Kodak, and dictate ingredients etc to make a film that is uniquely theirs. Lomography, which is both smaller than Fuji, and does not have the film manufacturing background, contracts factories to manufacture films that are unique to Lomography, by specifying the recipe to the factory. I also expect this Fuji film to be really a Fuji film, unique to them. Of course there will be some similarities because all films are making three color layers in similar ways, but this Fuji film is also different enough that we can categorically say, it is not rebranded UltraMax.
Great video; myself I have defaulted to an ipad only workflow. Very good tips keep at it
Why not use iCloud instead of creative cloud?
Thanks for the calming and informative vid 🙂☕ Just my two cents, I believe the new Fuji films are actually Kodak Gold 200 and 400, and that Ultramax is not Kodak Gold 400.
Excellent review.
Thanks for watching!
Beautifully shot! I had a white iPhone 4s years ago and this brings back some memories :). Keep up the videos!
The biggest and most obvious difference I saw from my results home dev and scanning is the cost I can get a 3 36 exp pack of Fuji 400 for $24.99 and and the same thing for ultra max is $29.99 both from B & H. All though I can only usually get ultra max in person from drug stores which is nice if I need film and don’t want to wait for shipping
I just got done home deving Fuji 400 (USA). let me tell you, after holding the two I couldn’t physically tell the difference between them. Same texture, same extreme thinness and they even sound the same when I flicked both. I also found my using almost identical white balance for both
I’m not surprised. After the test with 400, I found out that the polarizer probably messed up my test. I shot another video with the 200iso stock and scanning them on the same frame, they looked identical.
Great video but the music makes it difficult to hear the video
Noted for next time. Thank you for the feedback:)
In Japan, they are selling Fuji-made film again, but it's not made it to wider global markets. Luckily, I quite like Kodak Gold.
Maybe in a couple of months, it will hit international markets again. I love Fuji stocks!
Thank you for taking the time to demonstrate this light for us.
just when i thought kodak portra is the epitome of film rolls
E100 isn’t as practical but when you nail the exposure, it’s so good.
i uses iPad and I have a desktop. Can I use a SSD for both iPad and Desktop?
Yes! That's what I'm doing
Very helpful and outstanding photos! Subscribed.
Thank you ! :)
Could you provide the files of the scans with both film stocks in the same frame? When you were discussing them being "exactly the same" there appeared to be subtle differences between the two, perhaps it was changes in lighting conditions. It may be beneficial to have a future video with a randomized A/B "blind" sample so viewers can come to the conclusions themselves whether their preferred choice was consistently one stock over the other (indicating that there may indeed be some subtle differences), or if they simply couldn't tell the films apart (hence they are likely the same). It is more beneficial for people to come to conclusions themselves than to have someone articulate their conclusions as truth, as they say, "trust, but verify."
Is it better than r5?
For video yes, for photo it's the same without ibis. So if you're shooting more photos, get the R5 (or R5 Mark2 when it comes out) if you are doing more video, get the r5C
