From Stone to Canvas: A Medieval Fortress in a Mythical Valley [Needlepoint Embroidery]

This embroidery portrays Maglič, one of the most well-preserved examples of Serbian medieval architecture. Perched 100 meters above the Ibar River in the mythical Valley of Lilacs, the fortress is renowned for its striking beauty. According to legend, King Stefan Uroš I planted blue lilacs throughout the valley in the 13th century to evoke the charm of Provence for his future wife, Helen of Anjou. Inspired by this setting, I arranged an accordion and chiptune version of the Serbian folk song "Razgranala grana jorgovana" (The Branched Lilac Branch), which tells the story of a girl stitching a silk scarf under a lilac branch.
