This issue just happened on my 2021 Silverado. I have watched many RUclips videos on this and all kinds of remedies on here. I decided to look at trailer brake power at the 30 amp fuse. It was blown. Problem solved.

Yup, I just received my recall notice for the brake controller on my replacement truck after totaling my 3 week old 2500HD last November for the same reason. This video is 5 months old and I've had my truck into the dealer for the same complaint since then and yet they didn't identify the issue or tell me about the service bulletin. That makes me mad!

If you have dexter axle/ brakes there is a much easier fix. What a wiring disaster in that rv!

Great video. I have a new '24 GMC 3500 HD DRW to tow a 20,000+ fifth wheel & got exactly what you described. I took it to GMC and they did the service bulletin to replace the integrated trailer brake controller. Not sure they did a software update but with the new brake controller installed I'm still experiencing the same symptom of the trailer brakes disconnecting, which scares the heck out of me. I had to limp home (8 miles) while gingerly using just the truck brakes. Do you think the problem is a compatibility issue with the trailer's Hydrastar brake actuator and the GMC ITBC? Can you give me more information on the diode specifications and how to install one?

I have a similar problem on my 23 2500 HD LTZ truck. My issue is it chimes in "check trailer wiring" , A few seconds later it chimes in "Trailer brakes disconnected"" Then after a few seconds it chimes in " Trailer brake gain recalled" . You hit the "OK" button and it immediately starts back up again. It is an annoying chime. Took truck to Chevrolet. They put a tool that simulates a trailer and after two days they could not find anything. They did drive it 75 miles. So a question, what wire did you put the diode on? I saw where someone asked where you got the diode from and wrote that down. I also saw where someone said to disconnect your solar while driving. I turned it off at the disconnect switch. But that didn't help.

I have seen several with the same crack for sale.

What size wire do you use to connect the generator to your box?

The more computers and programming that these trucks have, the more potential of these parameter problems coming up. We tried new ends and wiring on our trailer and the trailer works fine for our other trucks. Our 23 GMC has been at the dealership twice, but the 24 module fix does not fit the 23 models.

Just modify the Cerbo's python script to use both relays. Pulse NO's for start/stop. No additional hardware needed. If you are going to use hardware to overcome the python script then this works.. Arduino, optocoupler, and a couple relays would make more since though. Fraction of the cost and footprint.

I have a gmc utility truck had this problem. I found the ground was put up against gm wax on frame. Cleaned it up and never had it happen again

What wires are you connecting these to in the trailer wiring box?

The problem is definitely an over voltage coming from the RV. i pulled the 30 amp fuse on truck that connects to the trailer plug. brake controller started working. thanks for help. got me out of a bind. 😅

As you mentioned ..... There's a TSB - Technical Service Bulletin. Took my 2024 Sierra 3500HD to the dealer. They had part on hand and replaced it when I took it in. It was covered 100% by warranty. It seems like something like loosing your trailer brakes would be a RECALL rather than just a TSB.

Can someone tell me what diode you purchased to resolve this issue?

STABILITRAC can throw a lot of ghost codes that can make repair facilities a lot of money and not even get close to the exact reason for the reduced engine power. We have a sudden attack of the TRAILER BRAKE CONTROLLER which then threw the REDUCED ENGINE POWER and CYLINDER 7 which was NOT defective. In my case we received; P0097, P00F4, P0113, P227B, P227D, P0207, P021A, and P1050, P0307. Just to get the TRAILER BRAKE CONTROLLER to SHUT UP I unplugged my trailer wire, pulled the trailer brake controller fuse and even the trailer brake charger fuse and it STILL continued. Turns out the wire harness was damaged from rubbing on the frame and had exposed wired that were shorting and grounding out that also caused other systems to malfunction. True these systems were in need of attention (NOX sensors and DEF Pump) however they had nothing to do with either the TRAILER BRAKE CONTROLLER or the DEF pump. We have also had the REDUCED ENGINE POWER just from the MASS AIR FLOW wire being loose. After replacing the NOX sensor, pulling the trailer brake switch, trailer brake wire, and trailer brake controller we repaired the wire put it all back in and the only thing that was left was the DEF Pump. SUDDENLY, we also needed a new particulate exhaust sensor too (imagine that).

I built the same box over nine months ago using directions from another RUclips channel, he linked all the same components that you're using and gave a diagram as well as some very detailed instructions. This isn't a 2023/2024 issue. I have the same issue with my 2019 and 2021 chevy 2500. I ended up putting in an aftermarket break controller.

I purchased this and LOVE it! It was a very easy hookup. The only complaint I have is with the mounting screws included. I was mounting this in a motor home outside compartment. The walls are 3/4" pressure treated plywood. When I tried to screw the screws in, every one of them striped out. I was using a fairly new nice fitting bit. I kept trying to make sure that I wasn't a little crooked or anything. Maybe i could have pre-drilled... but I didn't. The screws would drive about halfway in and then strip. I had other screws on hand that worked fine. Everything else about the setup was great though!

I also have a 24KB. You mentioned you re-used the factory wiring for solar. What is the gauge of the factory wiring? Are the Rich Solar 200w Solar Panels you used 12V or 24V? I'd like to also replace the stock 100w solar panel with 2 200w panels. Thanks

What a Dolt! You bought a POS box so heavy that requires 3 axles. Then you tow it around the country on terrible roads while living it fun time(NOt it’s intended use in the first place. What do you expect???

Based on your video and what Affinity did, it appears that all Lippert really needs to do is weld gusset plates on all frame cross-member/frame connections to strengthen the whole frame BEFORE sending the frames out. This means ALL frames shipped. A simple, relatively inexpensive fix that would save everyone grief, aggravation, and repair cost to fix cracked/broken welds. Remember the old adage: "A stitch in time saves nine."

Suffering from this on our Grand Design and so are hundreds of others. The common denominator is Lippert. These big toy haulers just aren’t engineered for their marketed use. Grand Design constantly posts on social media about boondocking and off roading these campers but they can’t even stay together on our interstate highways! I’ll be making a video of our experience soon. We have some shorts and reels, but was waiting for GD to finish our repairs first.

Don't you know that according to most of the Manufactures "frame flex" does not exist. It is about time owners start a class action suit against the manufactures to address this problem.

FWIW I've been rving for more than 30yrs ( on 3rd 5th wheel + numerous bumper pulls) currently have 375 Fuzion 40' 3 axle. I worked on Commercial and military AC including Blackbirds which all flex during operation its when excessive forces beyond design criteria that deformation and structural damage takes place. IMHO most towable RVs are built like aircraft as light as possible with structural design criteria safety factors as low as can be marketable for the intended load carrying capacity and usuage. FWIW my parents RIP took their 32' 5ver up the Alcan Hwy to Alaska when it mostly was not paved their trlr required numerous repairs including structural welding of frame junction between vertical and horizontal at overhang along with broken axle ubolts, hangers and springs. I mostly camp on USFS property which involves traversing 2 track fire roads with ruts, rocks and roots at walking speed when needed. Because of this intended use I installed a 4/20k# Reese Goosebox air ride pinbox and Moorryde SR4 with Xframe suspension. My rig has not suffered from excessive frame flex/failure with structural failure but I do not exceed GVW and max pin weight and tow at 55-60 with airbags in TV. YMMV Happy Camping.

I owned a 40' filth wheel toy hauler in the early 2000's..The same thing happen to my unit that is still happening to new units today. The industry doesn't care about fixing this problem or they would have made the changes..quit buying this crap. If you are still driving this unit around you are asking for trouble. I would love to get back into the RV game but there isnt a product out there that doesn't have major problems.

Geezus! So little tow miles and you had this problem. It says only one thing, Lippert needs to turn the finger around and point right at themselves! I remember when you could literally stop by at Affinity and get service the same day! Understand while you waited, but there are a number of commercial shops that design and build trailers. They routinely repair RV frames and can be gotten into in days. Lippert and RV manufacturers have no problem working with them. Been there, done that! Lol. Tip for your triple and the frame - avoid any kind of tight turning as often as you can. The triple axles provide a significant resistance and tight turns torque the entire frame. I'm not speculating either. I'm a real, live, practicing structural engineer!

Interesting. Wiring to the generator would be interesting to see. Are you wiring to the energy command 30 or directly to the gen. Also the priming timing. Can’t this timing change since the glow plugs need a little more time to warm up during colder weather?

Question, your gen start stop wires are confusing me. At the generator you used a black and red wire, then at the box you used orange and yellow. Now I heard you say you had to extend the wires, did you just switch colors when you extended them? So your only red and black wires coming from the relay box are system positive and negative. Which would be hooked up to pos busbar and negative busbar?

I don't this exact issue. But my 2023 chevy 3500 does not engage gooseneck or trailers that have hydraulic brakes. It will engage electric brakes but not electric over hydraulic.

You can add a 2016 Sierra 2500hd to the list. I'm looking into an aftermarket controller but unfortunately its not going to be a simple plug-n-play install because of the factory installed one.

i have a 2022 chevy 2500 hd ltz, pulling a 22 foot ironbull trl, and this s... is driving me crazy, its like when i hit a bump the trl brake recall goes bananas, it have my dashboard going in and out, i think its in the pig tail wiring somewhere.

How do I get ahold of you about your box. One question I have is will it work with a NPT generator. What happens if it doesn’t start on the first attempt?

Poor guy bought the worst of everything. A GD camper that's going to have frame issues then bought a gm. Zero for 2 on that quarter mil investment.
