Charlie Root
Добавлен 7 авг 2021
My style could be best explained as a person who's trying to blend rollers and jump up in super unique ways that sound dope. I also like Jungle, old skool amiga sounds and the occasional garage or experimental BPM genre switches.
I'm an aspiring DJ/Producer obsessed with DnB and Jungle who just mucks about in his apartment. I make all my mixes using a Numark MT3 controller, and Mixxx on GNU/Linux.
My current favorite audio tools are Renoise, Mixxx, and Vital synth.
Working on improving my wavetable synthesis, creating good drum patterns/sampling, and learning to master audio (mid, sidechain, compression, etc).

Charlie Root - Throwing Darts at the Moon
2 hours to make a track challenge, made for my son for his party.
RUclips's audio kind of quiets the track a bit. Here's the original annihilation.social/media/7eb9856a-4e42-4f4d-8951-031fdbe1c492/Charlie%20Root%20-%20Throwing%20Darts%20at%20the%20Moon.wav?name=Charlie%20Root%20-%20Throwing%20Darts%20at%20the%20Moon.wav

Hickupz & Headroom - Breathe (Charlie Root Edit)
Просмотров 11528 дней назад
All credit goes to Hickupz & Headroom. I made this a long time ago as a fun little project learning video editing with kdenlive and only recently rediscovered it on an old drive. If the original artists are displeased I will take it down. Just email me or message me on insta @root_dnb
Koala Sampler windows port is... ummm 👀...AMAZING!

This tool is amazing, you have AKAI level stretching at your fingertips among many other silly sound edit. I literally just ran this under a lazy loop, imagine trying with this thing or even just recording samples with it to use in your DAW of choice (choose Buzz, Renoise and or Reaper!)

Never judge a synth by it's cover, 80's synth making phat basslines and leads
Просмотров 213Месяц назад
Don't judge a synth by it's cover, I thought this one was kind of dumb, no presets, randomizing knobs made trash noises. But if you just patiently tweak the init preset, and the play much lower notes, you can get phat basslines out of this thing. plugins4free.com/plugin/2662/

Heatwave - A Mix by Charlie Root
Просмотров 1833 месяца назад
Big ups everyone! I poured a lot of time into this one and I learned alot bout DJ techniques. The first third is more rollers based, the second is Jump Up and filth, and the last third of the mix is just filthy jungle and breaks. Enjoy everyone and thanks for the the support!! And as always this mix was made on GNU/Linux using Mixxx (the best DJ software in the world) and a Pioneer DDJ hardware...

RUclips kind of made the track quiet. Either use a volume booster or listen/download my original .wav upload on Soundcloud soundcloud.com/root-bsd/charlie-root-throwing-darts-at
is it edit?!
Just the video portion. The real life crime sounds give it a gritty feeling.

The toolings you are listing here for openbsd sound, indeed very based and are quite interesting. I had no idea it gave you that level of control over your machine. Thats pretty fn neat

Get the program it's only 14$ USD, HQ helper stuff
This still helps me lol thank you only thing I wish there was in openbsd is hdmi audio
I'm just learning how to make EDM. This is not my only style, I can do many other styles and forms. I'm working on new projects, this was just a natural run through with my tools to get a feel of what was possible.
If you like my mix please like and sub! Much love 🙏
Sorry its 480p, I forgot to up OBS Studios video size because last time I recorded I was dealing with stuttering in my DAW.

Don't worry I'm still a Jeskola Buzz power-user, but I would love to cut my teeth on this thing and make some hard hitting Jungle tracks.
Wtf is your problem
Wtf is this stupid mudic
This was made using Mixxx on GNU/Linux btw 💪 🫡
Good shit, but was it made on OpenBSD?
No, my OpenBSD days are behind me. It was made on Windows 10 using an lesser known tracker DAW called Jeskola Buzz, but since Buzz is basically abandonware I've been moving on to Renoise which does have a Linux build so I can in the future produce tracks on Linux. But in the mean time I'm on Windoze due to my VST library and sample workflow being on this box. I have like 4 computers, 1 running Winders and the rest running Linux both x86_64 and arm64
its hard to run daw in openbsd. best i got was lmms and it was so bad. some times you just have to use windows.. recently i had to put a laptop to windows just to work on it. if you wanted a dwm for windows you can look up dwm win32. also i am not sure if RUclips keeps eating my comments
@@quitting_the_internet I'll have to look into that! What I really want for Windows is a better file explorer that's like thunar or pcmanfm, Windows native file explorer is bright white, burns my eyes and doesn't have tabs, it's AWFUL lol
@@root_dnb you should give Radium a go. It's tracker-based, FOSS (if you compile from source), and has support for VST and LV2 out of the box as well as pure data if you like the modularity of jeskola buzz
I like it :)
Good start, keep going!
🙃
Puff wins no diff
degoogled-chromium is now in the release ports.
I love the intro and the music is peng
I've used it exclusively on my laptop and server for years purely for research/learning/systems programming and sys/net administration. It's spartan nature is conducive to that. And it does everything else I need when I'm just farting around on the internet and whatnot. My desktop has wangblows, but purely for gaming and video editing, which is it's lane. Outside of gaming, premier/photoshop, and ableton there is nothing that openbsd doesn't or can't do for me or I'd imagine any other above average user. I have like maybe 10 things installed. dwm, st, firefox, tinycc, zsh, git, nvim, yeah basically covers it.
7.5 is out now.

Awesome video. ++Subcount
Your grub theme is just broken (you should be hiding that background or making it darker)
the physical root location is mainly used as a hint, you should be using the UUID so moving drives will not break the grub
The power button is a hardware feature, not an OS feature. What you did there was just pressing the power button once, quickly, which the OS takes as an interrupt, which by default starts the shutdown process. But you can change this on most OSes
No, UEFI means EFI, they are the same.
Root BSD I love this
Based.
BSD users will be always going to be Apple lovers.
6:42 - how did you make menu to show all added apps without typing? Also, is it assigned to pressing mouse button on background instead of keyboard shortcut? If so, how?
z to delete all partitions. a a to Add partition A n a is to specify an already existing partition (in this case a) mount point. ? or help to list commands. Just in case someone sees this videos and needs help with the same problem. You provably already know but got a blank because of recording.
According to the BSD wiki, my laptop's WiFi hardware is not supported, which really sucks.
I hope to get this working on my x1 carbon Gen 6. I've read openbsd doesn't have the best support, like freebsd does on it! Who knows. Lol. Either that, or I'll try freebsd.
are you alive?

@@root_dnb we missed you bro
@@archadam4657 sorry m8, my interest in OpenBSD hit it's logical conclusion there wasn't much more to say or do. Plus the process of learning FOSS media creation tools just made me really fall in love with that aspect more than the technical IT stuff tbh.
When 7.4?
Where’s the part 2 of the video?
is lumina support wayland or wlroots?
No, it's for Xorg. If you like FreeBSD, there is a Wayland compositor that Is made with FreeBSD in mind, Hikari
