Japanese here. Transferred to another base a few months ago, but i really wanna go back 😭 COMING BACK SOON My love AF, KADENA
I am not sure I would enjoy going back. It is all so...different. What happened to all the small old mom & pop shops, and restaurants ???
I agree, a lot has changed since I was stationed at Camp Foster Aug74 to Sep75. But it would nice to visit, not sure I could drive on the other side of the street... Semper Fi from an old Marine Sergeant who served 1973-1977.
沖縄は今日も暑い1日でした、みなさん熱中症には気をつけましょうね
Lived by the sea wall outside of main Kaden gate in 1971. It was all open.
I was stationed at Camp Foster Aug74-Sep75. H&S Co, H&S Bn, 3rd Force Service Regiment. Sometimes we ate chow at Kadena AFB, great food. Never saw Air Force Personnel eating at a Camp Foster mess hall. Semper Fidelis from an old Marine Sergeant from Charleston, WEST Virginia
As awesome as the island is, the real gold are the Okinawan people, I basically grew up there from 18 to 21 years old and I never saw an unfriendly gesture my whole time there aside from the protests in 1996. And even then, they were peaceful. Something about that island brings you into harmony
I was there in 1965 during the build up of Vietnam it sure has changed!
I was stationed at Camp Foster Aug74-Sep75. A lot of changes. I'd love to return.
Memories! I was stationed there in 1985 HQ 2/12
really nostalgic
Good choice song! my favorite band. Arigatogozaimasu
Very nice. You drove right past the house we lived in on Moore Ave. from 1986 to 1990, then made a U turn and went right back past again. There have been many changes since then. Thanks, such Good memories.
Navy Vet here. Looking at job opportunities in Japan and found something at camp Hansen. I was stationed in Yokosuka for 7 years. Okinawa seems pretty laid back. How would you describe it?
It is laid back I miss Okinawa and want to go back if you go there could you reckoned me for it positions they have there I really want to go back.
沖縄の青い海、空、 眩しい太陽。いい感じ。 沖縄に帰りたくなります。
thank you!! was there 85-87!!!
Does anyone know the title of the first Japanese song played in the beginning? It’s so relaxing. I was born in Camp Foster and we lived there for a few years. I want to go back so bad!
My ssgt used to make me run around the outside of this entire base with him in the morning for PT
Ran the outside perimeter at zukeran next to foster. 2 years. 77-79. We’d get 1000 mile tee shirts. Those who did it. Ohio !!! Guzaimas.
1:35 My girlfriend lived at that apartment on the right, right outside gate 1. I used to park at the bank at night and wake up hungover to move my car before the locals plastered my car. Other times I'd park on the side of the Family Mart or behind the apartment in the alley. 9 years later and she's now my wife and the mother of my child. Great flick, brings back a lot of memories. 390 IS 2008-2010.
How about Anthony's pizza. My Dad used take me there. I missed my parents. I enjoy your video.
Did see an A&W. Its funny an old American fast food chain survives outside the U.S but good luck finding one state side
Wait it used to exist as a Cain in the USA? I always thought it was just a good brand of root beer.
So much prettier on base without all those wires everywhere.
Thanks for posting this.
i feel in love with this beautiful Island. Pity i didn't take camera camcoder while i was there. I will visit Okinawa again very soon. Thanks for your clip to reminded me. How 's okinawa city.
Was there from 1953 to 1968 Not the same. I would get lost!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We lived there from '69 to '72. We were in Awase near the "pink grocery "! Our 603rd squadron still meets up every three years! We have thought about going back...but it might have changed too much! Okuma was such a wonderful beach.
Did you live near the LF tower?
what is the title of the song and the artist at the 10:10
begin akari
I haven't been in Okinawa since 2012 so this is bringing me so good memories of my life there
I was there in 85-86,awesome place.Great video, miss it very much..David USAF RET..............Thank you for posting
Thank you.
When I was on Rock back in 1974 - 1975, H&S Co H&S Bn, 3rd Force Service Regiment, Camp Foster, we drove on the other side of the road, when did that change?
They made the change in 1978 after reversion to Japan. I was there in the late 1960s and drove on the Amercican side. In recent years, I saw a civilian license bearing a stamp showing an arrow going from right to left indicating that he'd been through training. I'd say the transition took a couple of years. Tony
Its been 40 yrs since I've been at Camp Foster. Back in 1975 Camp Foster was not that big; but now.....WOW
I miss Okinawa so much. I was there from 2004 - 2015. Worked off base and on base and had the most amazing experience of my life. I hope I can move back some day.
Mike, is this area in the old Makiminato Housing area? I lived in the housing area back in the '70s and with each trip back since then (in the late '80s and in 2013, 14 and 15) I haven't been able to get a handle on where it was. I have been disappointed with myself for not being able to locate it. I enjoy your videos, Mike, and recognize many of the areas that you have driven - especially the drives around Camp Foster to Sunabe. In the last three years I've driven those routes many times during my visits to the island. In 2014 I stayed on Camp Lester for about a month!
I'm crying so hard while watching this... it's been 5 years and 2 days since I left okinawa T^T
Was there in 71-72 (USMC). Also worked at KSBK radio. Fun times.
So many pleasant memories. I was there from 83 to 85. I still can't find any yakisoba...lol
Thanks. I was there from 95-98! Sure looks a little different!
Nice video, but I don't recognize anything. I was stationed there in 1985, those were some good times
Bfr74vz I agree, I was there Aug 74 to Sep 75, USMC
We just moved back stateside after being stationed there for almost 7yrs. Best years were there & we miss & love our little house by the seawall. Okinawa will always have a special place in our hearts.
I agree hands-down one of the most beautiful places I ever been stayed there for 3 years when my dad was stationed there I loved spearfish!!
awesome post thank you. My Daughter just went there for a 3 year tour.
i used to work in the old quonset huts at the 1:30 mark to the right of the road. then we later moved to the enterance of the command post on the east part of camp foster gate ( TAVSC )
wow i was there in 89-92. what happened to all the small cafes that used to be near the wall
thanks so much for posting this! was there '86 - '89 and absolutely loved it! actually got a "homesick" feeling watching it.
83 to 86 i was there worked at the tank farm on hwy 58 sure do miss it.and all my Army Buddies.
Wow! Seems like all the off-base streets have dropped to 40 klicks from 50. Have to do all my driving in 3rd gear!
(Was PCS '73 thry '76 and TDY otherwise thru the 70's and early 80s) so many changes -- especially the stop lights
Nora, I am glad you liked it. I plan to make a lot more videos. I will definitely go through where the Kadena circle used to be. It isn't there anymore. 😔
Wow , so many changes. I was stationed there twice, from 1976 to 1978 then again from 1982 to 1986. Loved it there both times and tried to go back for a third tour but no luck. Love the music but I wish you would have told us what you were driving by since it changed enough for me not to remember the area. Was fun watching it and I an sure you did not drive by Kadena Circle off base where I was lucky enough to live. Sigh!!
I'm PCSing here. How hard is it to obtain a POV and that joint service driver's license?
Thank you for this…brings back great memories!!!
Man it really hasn't changed much has it? At least the bases anyway.
Beautiful video♡
