    I have a bog standard Honda Bros 650 Mk1 RC31 (only added front rising rate suspension). It's never going to be a rocket ship, on the other hand it weighs only 184.2kg / 406 lbs (wet weight), which means its 56.1 hp gets it to 60mph in 4.4 seconds and 1/4 mile in 13.6 seconds, this's enough to beat most BMW M5's! It has good low down torque and gets an easy 46.6mpg, plus it's nice and slim for dealing with traffic jams and nothing touches down when cornering hard on most roads. Many people simply find riding a small bike hard is simply more fun than riding a fast bike slow. You will not find a 4 cylinder bike as easy to maintain as this. I also have an RD350 YPVS (63hp), (think RZ350 YPVS in the US). The two bikes are like chalk and cheese, the YPVS needs constant rebuilding and is the most fun per mile, while I do next no maintenance on the BROS and it looks after me, rain or shine. It does help to have new tyres.

    You are wrong! I owned a 1968 CB175 for a year and then moved up to a beautiful 1969 CB350 K1. The CB175 was a great bike and I loved it. But when I saw the 69 CB350, it was love at first sight and I had to have one. It proved to be a very good choice. Not only was it beautiful, but also it was very reliable and handled very well. It was Honda's best middleweight and that they sold about 360,000 of them proves it. The 1969 CB350 K0 and K1 were the best, followed by the 68 CB175.

      I respect your choice too. It's just that I owned and rode an S90 (Dec 66 to June 68), CB175 (July 68 to June 69) and CB350 (July 69 to July 70, and having owned and ridden all 3 great bikes, I am better able to judge than people who owned just 1 (not meaning you - I don't know what else you owned). Excepting the.Cub, they, IMO, were the best òf the 60s and 70s.

    This is a "very" late comment but I just discovered this video. Honda's CB175's were some of my favorite bikes when I was a kid and first learning to ride in the late 60's and early 70's. I'm posting now to make a minor correction to something you said about the bike. Back in those days, motorcycle manufacturers, particularly the Japanese companies got into a bit of a horsepower war. That is, their "claimed" horsepower rating for their bikes tended to get more and more imaginative as time went on. As a result of that, the motorcycle magazines printed at the time started dyno testing the bikes they were road testing for review and "they" came up with some surprising numbers. You stated that your CB175 was rated at 20 hp. That was "Honda's" claim at 10,000 rpms. I remember reading a road test on a 1971 CB175 K5 in, I think, Cycle Magazine and their dyno measurements for the bike were 10 hp @ 10,000 rpms. Later down the road, I bought a used 1971 CB350, a bike I truly loved. Honda claimed 36 hp @ 10,000 rpms but the magazines dynod the bike and measured 18 hp @ 9200 rpms. It seems that, for a while, Honda was claiming double the hp of whatever the bike made and Honda wasn't the only one. Having owned a CB350, I believe their rpm ratings for max hp. My 1971 model had a redline of 10,500 rpms, just like your CB175 but it wouldn't pull it in any gear over 3rd and the power band would take a major dive after about 9500 rpms. The last couple of years Honda produced the CB350, they lowered the redline from 10,500 rpms to 9500 rpms because it didn't get you anything to rev it over that speed anyway. The only reason I can think of why Honda put the 10,500 redline on the 350 in the first place would be for bragging rights, but other than that, it meant nothing. After a couple of years of the magazines printing the "real" hp figures for their bikes, the manufacturers quit publishing hp ratings for their bikes altogether. 😀

    • @MrVintagebikeguy
      @MrVintagebikeguy Год назад

      I did Dyno my bike years ago at 17.8 HP at 9000rpm. The tech wouldn’t do to 10,000 cause of the age of the bike

    • @Intrepid175a
      @Intrepid175a Год назад

      @@MrVintagebikeguy - Interesting? What I stated was based on what I remember reading back in the day. One other thing I remember noting for those bikes I had personal experience with, like that CB350, what the feel of the bike followed the printed torque curves more than anything else. My CB350 had a noticeable bump in pull in 2nd and 3rd gear at around 6500 to 7000 rpm and that corresponded to a bump in the torque curve that they showed on their graph. Because of that, I tended to pay more attention to the torque curves than the hp curves.

Had some of this exact compound sitting around in the garage, and now it looks almost new. It even softened some of the deeper scratches that were there already and they're a lot less prominent, without pre-sanding. Thanks!

      Honda CB175's are great little bikes but are getting very old now . The newest ones are now 50. Engine Parts are still pretty easy to get but other parts are getting expensive. My bike is very reliable but I wouldn’t use it as a daily driver. It’s very good on gas “60 or 70” miles per gallon. It is highway legal and I have gone on the highway here in California but it’s not great for highway use. Back roads are where it likes to be. If you want a bike to cruise around on the weekends and don’t plan on going very far the the 175 would be great but if you want to get into motorcycling more seriously I would get a much newer and a little bigger bike.

    Love this! In the seventies everybody in my family had a Honda and we would sometimes ride together, usually on a nice day if I was home from college for the weekend. My dad had an SL175, my mom had a CB175 (they both rode their bikes to work), my 3 brothers rode a CB 750F (DOHC), a VF 750 Interceptor, and a CB400F. I had a CB 750 (SOHC) for awhile. On the subject of CB175's my brother's first bike was a clapped out 1970-71 model that some previous owner had made into a ridiculous chopper-basically they'd just swapped out the fork tubes for a pair that were 8" or so longer, added a giant sissy bar and improvised a seat from a Schwinn banana bike. He never forgave me for riding it without oil in the engine one day. And I don't blame him!
