Sergei Lyapunov - Transcendental Étude Op. 11, No. 12 "In Memory of Franz Liszt" (Noack)
Performed by Florian Noack: ruclips.net/video/SbESUbEvBpc/видео.html
Sheet music: imslp.org/wiki/12_%C3%89tudes_d%27ex%C3%A9cution_transcendante,_Op.11_(Lyapunov,_Sergey)
"In Memory of Franz Liszt" is the 12th etude in the set of Sergei Lyapunov's 12 Transcendental Etudes, a honorary continuation of Franz Liszt's 12 Transcendental Etudes. It was written in the key of E minor. This piece features Hungarian rhapsody-esque octave-type melodies. The piece starts off slowing as a rather funeral march, then ascends into a much more gradiose display of Lyapunov's virtuostic piano writing, which reflects that of Liszt's.

Is there an original video?
Sounds more like Liszt than Liszt himself lol, And Liszt is my favorite composer for piano, Lyapunov really payed one of the greatest homages in musuc history with this set.

5:12 Black Keys etude (10-5)
Lyapunov is 1 of my favorite non mainstream composers. I only "discovered" him a few years ago when I stumbled on a Sonata of his❤🎶
Noack is a fantastic pianist- I’d also recommend his live recording of the complete set from 2016. Thank you so much for all of these Lyapunov videos!
Terminal rampancy v0
Fucking Ada!
Very very good, I like Noack a lot. Also have you heard Louis Kentner’s Lyapunov? He made the first two complete recordings of the etudes I know of, in 1949 and 1972. Would highly recommend listening to them, as a pianist he’s super underrated!
Jolie étude, mais avec une structure et des idées trop lourdement inspirées de Feux Follets, dommage qu'il n'y ait pas de réel climax.
Lyapunov was a very good composer. The most this reminds me of Liszt is a Hungarian Rhapsody vibe and some virtuosic techniques
this piece contains quotations from nearly all 12 Liszt etudes.
The "hungarian rhapsody" vibe comes from Lyapunov referencing HR 1 (the beginning, at least)
Not gonna sugarcoat it- this sounds like ass. An excellent example of vacuous virtuosity. I’d even say performing this would be cringe
This is better than much of Liszt.
Given the fact that Lyapunov wrote his etude more than half a century after Liszt had written the final version of his set of 12 etudes, literally as an hommage to Liszt by whom Lyapunov was inspired his entire life, I really don't know what that is even supposed to mean. Having said that, this is of course a wonderful etude, and I'm pretty sure Liszt would have loved it!
You need to listen to more Liszt my friend :)
So, who is going to make the 3 left hand transcriptions for this?
W
This just helps remind you why great composers were great. Clearly this dude wrote well but like not even close to the same level as Liszt.
I would agree with you to some extent. Lyapunov is really a hit or miss composer, which goes for Liszt as well. It sets them apart from the greatest like Chopin and Scriabin.
". . . which goes for Liszt as well" ??? And then going on as far as ranking Scriabin with Chopin? That is insane. In terms of sheer poetry on the piano Liszt was at the very least the equal of Chopin, if not surpassing.
@@peterchan6082 Have you listened to Scriabin’s music? The first half of his output is perhaps better than most of Chopin’s compositions for the piano. And Liszt is much greater than Chopin. Chopin is still one of the top 5 greatest composers of all time imo.
@@Xyriak Although some Liszt pieces are quite mediocre, he belongs in the same tier as Chopin and Scriabin for piano works.
What constitutes the same level as Liszt? I think you just don't like Lyapunov's works as much as Liszt's, which is fine.

This is so good!! I saw people talking about Lyapunov a lot but never actually listened to him before, hope to listen to more from him
Wow, this sounds insanely good
Sounds amazing
noack shows new possibility of interpretation of lyapunov pieces, these set are so unique and valuable thanks for upload score videos
What do you think of Hough's recording of Rondes des sylphes?
I think it's alright. However, I think that it is rather dry and lacks the clarity and power of Noack's and even Scherbakov's interpretations.
@@Xyriak I feel the opposite
So which one of you is correct then?
This really reminds me of Islamey
As it should! Lyapunov was not only a close friend of Balakirev, the man who composed Islamey, but they both often wrote pieces inspired by traditional folk songs from the Caucasus region in southern Russia. Both were commissioned to gather folk songs from that region, so you can clearly see where the influence came from.
Absolutely correct 🤓👍🏾 Every bit as hard too!! Lol 🎹🖐🏾😆🤚🏾🎹🎹

This is a beautiful piece 😭 A) why have I never heard it? B) why have I never heard of Lyapunov????
C) why does this only have 300 views???????
Do you know how long I didn’t listen to something this much of epicness in it???????
класс
didn’t see this until now, it’s been so long i hope you’ve been well man
woah this is defo something underrated i found accidentally
Geometry Dash into Lyapunov posting is giving me whiplash lol, Poland moment indeed.

Big respect for whomever can pull this passage off so well. It completely disregards any hand comfortability
@@Xyriak I've started this piece today, going to practice on a grand tomorrow. That whole page is gonna take half a day to get smooth, and many months to be seamless like Florian lol
@@none5020 Good luck brother. Having quickly played through most of these etudes, I can say that this is likely the hardest one (if not tied with no 9 or 11), but sounds super satisfying when it's pulled off!

4:08 7:45 8:07
Rather intriguing textures but unfortunately it's hampered by uninspired melodic writing. It gives one a greater appreciation for melodists like Scriabin and Chopin.
Impressive. Thanks for posting.
