Coach Driving Diaries #7 - Young Voices at the 02 London
Coach Driving Diaries #7 - Young Voices trip to the 02, London
Each year we do school trips to the Young Voices event, which takes place at a handful of locations around the country, to take in schools in the area so we either do Birmingham NEC or London 02, depending which the school could get in to, as hundreds of primary schools take part.
This was the first time we did the 02 event this year, double manned as you cannot do this one single manned without running out of hours! So with two drivers this gives us 21 hours to play with, and we did it in 18 hours as we had a good run there and back

Coach Driving With James Ep.25 - Irizar i4 Test Drive
Просмотров 1,9 тыс.Месяц назад
Welcome to Episode 25 - Test driving the Irizar i4 We recently purchased this i4, ES15 EHS, from a bus and coach sales place. It is a 70 seater and relatively low mileage (c.125,000km) and priced reasonably, which is why we purchased it, it's the first 70 seater we've had since we got rid of the 52 plate Bova. I wanted to give it a spin to see what it's like so this is my first drive out in thi...
Coach Driving With James Ep.24 - Rail Replacement Standby Shift
Просмотров 1,7 тыс.Месяц назад
Welcome to Episode 24, the rail replacement standby shift After the introduction I show how the wheelchair lift operates, as I remember mentioning that I wanted to demonstrate how this operates in an episode at somepoint The rest is pretty much whatever I did in the day, it's a 14 hour shift heavily condensed, I don't think a whole 14 hour video would have been interesting! It's one of those da...
Coach Driving With James Ep.23 - Driving a manual Bova Futura from Lavington - Devizes in 2021
Просмотров 999Месяц назад
One video I promised to eventually chuck together and upload, one that never got put together at all until now (as I stumbled across it on my hard drive!), a simple drive up the A360 from Lavington to Devizes in the 70 seater Bova Futura WJ52 MTE, filmed in 2021. No commentary or anything special, I don't think I ever intended it to be either as I wasn't doing that sort of format then, was just...
Coach Driving With James Ep.22 - Parking in London #2
Просмотров 9542 месяца назад
Welcome to Episode 22 - Parking in London number 2. The big coach parks, what sizeable ones left are extremely expensive, and road side parking has been reduced for space to put in cycle lanes that no one uses, I had a circuit in mind but I had a lightbulb moment remembering another nearby space, if you know London well you've already figured out where I ended up from this videos thumbnail pict...

Coach Driving Diaries #6 - Trains of North Wales 5 day tour Having done this style for Devon, I thought I'd do another tour video, this time another 5 day tour but in North Wales, staying at the Royal Victoria Hotel in Llanberis. It was an excellent tour with stunning scenery and rides on some narrow gauge railways, including the Snowdon Mountain Railway which I hadn't done before Sorry it's ta...
Imberbus 17th August 2024

Imberbus 17th August 2024, just as busy, if not busier, than the 2023 event, with up to 40 vehicles in use, with the usual mix of Routemasters and other vehicles, from a Bristol VR to an Enviro 200 MMC from local operator Beeline Buses, I believe the first time that they have appeared here. There were of course some open toppers as well and being a dry day these were popular. Using the same for...
Coach Driving With James Ep.21 - Driving the Levante to Okehampton
Просмотров 5 тыс.5 месяцев назад
So I've not taken the Levante on a long trip, actually it's been a good couple of years since I last drove it always tried to avoid it if I could! But today I have to drive it, empty all the way to Okehampton and come back loaded, so at least I get a descent empty run to get the hang of it first

Footage from the Brislington Bus Rally 2024, held at the Brislington Park & Ride site. I've organised the clips in year order so it will appear with the oldest vehicle entry first working up the years to the newest, and at this event it spanned over 90 years from 1934 through to 2024!

Footage from the Alton Bus Rally & Running Day held at the new venue Alton College on Sunday 21st July 2024 I have tried to capture as many vehicles as I could I almost have everything just a handful that's not covered, plenty of clips of B69 WUL just because that sounded absolutely meaty! On screen captions as normal appear on screen, if there's no caption for a particular vehicle later on it'...

Buses and Coaches for Glastonbury Festival Filmed near Cannards Grave, Shepton Mallet, this covers a majority of the vehicles on the Castle Cary/Worthy View Farm/Drop & Collect shuttles, and also the coaches on 'See Coaches' contracts taking people from various locations (a majority from London) The main Castle Cary road was later closed due to a fire causing all sorts of traffic problems!
Coach Driving With James Ep.20 - Glastonbury 2024 Shuttles
Просмотров 5 тыс.6 месяцев назад
Glastonbury 2024 Worthy View campsite shuttles Not quite the full detailed video I had in mind but I didn't have a stash of batteries nor time to plan it really, having missed most of Glastonbury this year I only worked the Monday shuttles, the busiest time when thousands of people go home on the same day. It generally takes a long time just to do a round trip, and there are hundreds of buses, ...
Coach Driving With James Mini Ep.1 - Toilet Drop Demonstration

A new mini episode, I've called it Mini Episode 1 in case I end up doing any more, but here's a demonstration on how we empty a coach toilet waste tank, not the pleasant of jobs but it has to be done!
Coach Driving With James Ep.19 - POV Westbury to Lynton not via the A39!
Просмотров 2,1 тыс.7 месяцев назад
An early start on Friday, up at 4am with the aim of leaving the depot at 0530 as I had a 120 odd empty run to do to Lynton, with a 10am departure from there back to Devizes, at least I was finishing close to home this time I avoided the A39 this time, I know I promised to but I didn't want to risk getting caught in the busy traffic period, might have been ok but would have rather gone the easie...

Excellent, your driving and attitude are of the highest professional standard, deeply impressive.
I noticed you vacuumed a coach after a late return home on one of your other videos, are drivers usually responsible for washing the coaches as well?
Correct, some may have yard staff but it is few and far between, even the big operators in our region clean their own vehicles, granted they get to have a drive through automatic bus wash, but it's still the driver that has to operate it and also do the other bits like the inside
Great video james, I have fear of heights as well, don't think I could have gone on there
Eighteen hour day, that's a long time, but it looked like pretty good fun, for work!
Coach
Does the tacho record your speed, and if an officer checked it, would they be able to find out if you had been speeding? For example if you were doing 25 in a 20 limit, or is it more to do whether a driver had been doing 80 on the motorway? 35:36 - When driving any vehicle I try to imagine there is a glass of wine on the dashboard.
@simoningram Tacho records speed, on a paper tacho it draws a line like a graph to what speed you are doing, with a digital tacho it reads it onto the card, the speed in KPH is shown on the tacho unit, I *believe* DVSA can see what speed was done where but don't quote me on that. In any event a company vehicle tracker will have information, our tracker will show what speed was done where on the route the vehicle took, so anyone claiming a vehicle was speeding the company would easily be able to check.
I have an interview coming up with a bus and coach company in Sussex, as a trainee driver. Complete change of career direction but something I've always wanted to do. Fingers crossed everything goes well, but your excellent content is a source of encouragement and great advice. Thanks James very enjoyable.
Thank you! Hope all goes well!!
My dad used to work for Horseman. He knew the company founder personally

The Adl 400 struggle like mad up there
Very narrow roads in that area, Great video.
Watching your channel for the first time, what a beautiful drive smooth and on point. I'm ex National Express and Megabus now with a 3rd party operator on the M4 services east. We have the i6s tri axles, all tri axles NeoplAn Tourliners, Mercedes all lovely vehicles to drive.
I like your channel James and your editing skills are getting better all the time keep up the good work thank you and Happy New Year

Merry Christmas james
Thank you!!
You welcome
Coach
Merry Christmas to you too!
Thank you very much!
Happy Christmas and happy new year 🎉
And to you thank you!
Hi James, another great video! Thanks for sharing! 👊🏽👍🏽😃
I4 share same engine and transmission with yutongs gt12 And game changer yutongs gt14 tri axle luxury one most luxurious looking coaches on market
Yutong's have certainly changed I must admit I thought all Yutong's are Cummins but there are other options then? I have seen the Excelsior GT12's at a show, it does look nice and they have the similar 3 different mirrors on the left but a bit bigger
I4 came as school coach large number people mover market had a demand for them especially harder get double decker but great where I live because low bridges Newer ones can go up to 80seats though apparently can't be used on rail replacements which strange some carriages have 3&2
Ahhh! Explains why I haven't seen manyi4's and the ones I have seen seem to be high density that's why then! The most recent i4 I've seen was a 23 plate, all over white with Babcock legals, turns out the military have purchased a small handful if these i4's You are correct with the 3+2's and I have heard of vehicles with a 3+2 turning up on rail replacement and then being sent away, on these they are usually narrower seat's maybe they think it would be less comfortable on a train than the layout of a coach..?
I find that road out of Trowvegas a bit tight past the BP garage. The usual Wilts practice of no white lines but a pained cycle lane. Happy Christmas
Yes! The right hand bend heading to the BP garage seems to be a slight pinch point for no apparent reason! Much like the roundabout at the top of Paxcroft where the new road towards Wicks is, taking the first left exit towards the fire station is a funny one as it's not round, it has a strange kink in it for some reason!
It looks a nice coach James
3 videos in 2 weeks im loving it 😀
Nice coach Looks like small mirrors though i drive a 70 seater Volvo for schools But It s been savaged by the kids ,,Nice video James
No surprise! 😂this one has been savaged a bit too from it's previous life, but it's due for a re-trim next year
Looks nice, very low mileage as well, plenty of life left in that. I know a local coach company to me (PC Coaches of Lincoln) have quite a few Irizars, think most of theirs have the Scania power plant.
Coach
Great video james, it gives a good insight into what happens in a shift
I wouldn't have tempted fate by moving the seats back before the end of shift 😂
@robgaskell2391 Luckily, the running vehicle still had his wheelchair space available 😅 but yes, it's a bit nerve-racking when you hope it's not needed on the last run! Wouldn't have had time to do it back at the yard
@james143611 aye the job would be a lot easier if tachographs weren't a thing 😆
Coach
29:33 holy hell
That’s a crazy long shift, I don’t fancy that much !
That’s an expensive crack in the windscreen
It's been there since August, happened on coach bay at Southampton no idea how, drilled and filled hasn't moved in all those months, not covered on warranty either, cheaper to fix it than replace whole screen, especially when it's just over a year old!
Been a little while since I did a rail standby. You were unlucky to have to go out straight away! We've got Temsas as well and I find those seat lock handles a nightmare, especially to undo.
Was looking forward to relaxing with my coffee, quick puff outside and all that, saved it for when I got to station and that went out the window! 🤣 Not just me who takes 20 minutes to move 4 rows then! I have had a couple of times I've had to get the cloth and hammer to bang a handle off the tracking!
@james143611 all sorts of tricks needed! 😆

Awesome pov
Great video james, it's a shame it was scrapped, must have been beyond repair
Pretty much, it went VOR in 2022 when the propshaft decided to come off, towed back to base, threw some money getting it sorted, first time back on the road after a few months off the road it didn't even make it to the start of the school run, towed back again, shoved at back of yard and that was the end of it's service
What a shame it was scrapped. Was it really that bad? It looks like it had loads of power.
Everyone at our yard called it 'Mighty', not just because the end letters of the reg were 'MTE' but it had the bigger block over the other Bova's we had, right old power train that was! The propshaft decided to come off and then after that was done it lasted only half an hour and something else went seriously wrong (can't remember what it was now) but it was towed back to yard again, and that was that it was decided to take spares off of it and then went to Wrigleys for scrap
What was first gear like to engage / change up from? A friend of mine owned one and it was a pig - the only thing he didn't like about the coach.
This one wasn't too bad a bit odd as it feels sloppy and its far too forward as well, but hydraulic shift was alright actually, the manuals with the linkage system was interesting, I remember one of them you knew you were in first when your knuckles hit the dashboard 😂
@@james143611 yes, my friend's was the linkage system.
amazing!!
Don’t you just love impatient German car drivers? 😡😡😡
Hi James are you able to do a full indepth exterior and interior tour of the volvo b10m plaxton premier please if it's still on fleet. Looks a lovely coach the older better than the new stuff and more reliable. Cheers matt
I did casual driving for a guy Brian Le Blond A to B coaches of Tring Hertfordshire operating out of a former Transco gas site in London road Hemel Hempstead Hertfordshire. We had an old B10M Plaxton premiere Auto. YJI7315. Loved driving it. Only problem it had was the typical noise from the drive from the engine to the fan at front. The bearings tended to wear
