Themes like this should serve as a reminder of what Godzilla is truly supposed to be. He is not a guardian of earth. He is not a hero. He is a force of nature, a symbol of the destruction of nuclear weapons and power. Whether acting out of instinct or vengeance, Godzilla is a victim of the atomic bomb, which has turned him into a monster. A huge, radioactive, scary monster. And now, people begin to feel like he effects of such a force as hospitals fill with the orphaned, the sick, the wounded, the dying, and the dead.

When I first saw this film (specifically this scene) I was confused maybe even scared, but looking back now this score is perhaps the greatest suite for Mothra out there. This music was sent down by her herself.

Listening to this song after watching the Godzilla analog Horror series, “The Man in the Suit,” makes it even more haunting and tragic. The Man/Creature’s origin as a bitter man, twisted by the death of his family in the Atomic Bombing of Hiroshima, really fits with this music and ties in perfectly with the tone of the first Gojira film. He, along with the original Godzilla, are not just indestructible and horrifying monsters, but also a representation of the equally horrifying damage nuclear war does to both nature and humanity.
