The mids you mentioned they sell as a separate pedal called haunting mids. So no not a metal zone
Hhmm, so Haunting Mids is new to me. $50 less than the Hard Drive, but with 3 less controls (High, Low & Gain). For $150, I'd still go for the Waza MT-2. I don't currently own either, just pointing out similarities between them. I'm waiting for the Wampler pedals take on the MT-2 to be honest. (disclaimer: this is not something that exists at this time)
Thank you for putting respect on its name! 💪
Thanks! I bought it used expecting it to be bad but was pleasantly surprised with what it did. Maybe some people's expectations are to high and also not knowing how to add it to your signal chain.
One thing that I only thought about after watching this video, is bypassing the Simplifier's preamp section with other pedals. Nice work, as always!
Thanks! Thats one of the things I love about having an FX loop on the Simplifier that I can treat like a real amp. You can use what ever amp or preamp you want and just use the MK2 Cab sims for the XLR outs and still pass the Cab Bypass out back to a real amp. So many options!
I'm with you. I own a bunch of their stuff but overall my socks have never been particularly blown off. It's probably the heaviest THEY make, but at 200 smackers there are so many other options that probably get heavier. I'm not super into what I've heard from it anyhow. I think these boutique pedals are kind of played at this point given the economic situation of the vast majority of folks and the sheer amount of available options coming in at more agreeable price points for many.
I'd still like to try it out and make some comparison videos but it's not anything revolutionary I need to own or anything. If got the JHS Clover and really like it but it can act funny from time to time.
Nice mandalin playing
when i was 13... this was my dream... never got it
You can still pick them up used for really cheap in most places. It's been fun to get it back out and play it with my current setup.
@@Fullscalemusictn I still have the first V-amp by Behringer, more than 20 years with me... uaehuaehuaeuaehaeuh
I get so confused when i start using E# when I know its an F
That can be confusing. It helps me to remember that each note in a scale should have a letter for it weather it be natural, sharp or flat. Seeing something like D F F# G# or A# C C# D# should be what looks weird. Plus, you only really have to worry about that when you get into 6 or 7 Sharps/Flats. You can practice those scales without even thinking about the notes, but it is helpful to be aware of whats going on with them.
This gentleman definitely has an FM voice made for radio, Great review BTW!
Thanks! I'd even take an AM voice.
@@Fullscalemusictn LOL no total smooth jazz fm radio voice
I think, you are right, the hard drive and metal zone have the same active eq mid semi parametric functionality, they are the same circuit eq, I do not know, we do not know, they do sound similar? I do not think so, this due maybe because the out inverting stage in the MT. And of course yes, if you want to try a si miliar mid eq functionality you can try first one mt before expending in hard drive. Something else, if someone want to improve the mt sound, i suggest to change the speaker first, I changed my speaker to a celestion greenback and my sounds much much better.
I do think that the Hard Drive sounds different from the MT-2. It's more the controls that you have being similar. The Hard Drive does sound a bit smoother and the EQ is probably more tame. I'd like to hear it through the FX loop of an amp, like people do with the MT-2. See if it does the same thing there.
Maybe try a parametric eq after? Or mess with the Global.
That could get it there. I tend to not mess with the Global EQ since I use pretty different guitars at any given time.
@@Fullscalemusictn Ahhh ok, I guess it would be better to add one in the patch for you.
Good info! I'm interested in using it as a backup amp instead of bringing a 2nd amp to a gig. Not crazy about the high-gain sound, but I'd primarily use it as a pedal platform with my board. I want to be sure it gives me the same feel as a tube amp.
It's a great pedal platform for sure. I love that I can finally use stereo FX so much easier than before. The feel is very close to true tube, but obviously with some slight difference. The main thing is the zero latency, which makes it feel more tube like and can integrate into most existing rigs easily, even if you're just suing it to send cab sims to a mixer. Having it as a backup is a great idea too. Although, I'd hate to jump to it in an emergency because it will need some tweaking to get it set right.
@@Fullscalemusictn Is it that difficult to tweak quickly? I'd have it ready to go with a clean Fender-ish sound in case something happened to my amp.
Not really, but I haven't used it live yet either. The Bass may need a slight adjustment but the main thing I think would be balancing the master volume and the post gain.
I still use my 1101 even though I have a Helix Rack. Whammy, Flanger and Univibe are unmatched even to my Helix. The RP200 is probably worth it just as a Whammy since the actual Whammys keep breaking. Though about getting a RP355 just to run out front.
Absolutely. The Whammy is one of the main parts of the RP that I'm going to feature.
It’s probably more durable than the whammy, too. They just don’t last.
Yep. My Whammy v4 is not my favorite, for several reasons. I'm sure I'll cover it at some point.
Ah, old (Digi)tech. I recently brought my GNX2 out of retirement. Obviously a real dinosaur in 2024 (just like your RP200), but actually more fun than I expected. I may not be very picky, but I've dialed in a few tones that are somewhat decent/usable. I'll probably bring out the RP350 soon. Definitely more modern than the GNX, but still pretty old. 😄
Awesome! I've got a GNX4 that I've also had for forever, and I'll definitely get to that one at some point. Not sure which came out first but I've owned my RP200 for longer. I know the Artist version came later as did the 50 version of the RP series. I'm usually not that picky either most of the time either and I gotta say I have a renewed appreciation for these old devices. Not looking to give them the JHS $ bump, though. I hope they stay cheap a while longer.
Hahaha I love this, such a throwback
You are starting with a Telecaster which sounds like an acoustik in the neck pickup. That's why it's king in Nashville. Bravo!
Guilty, and it's a Nashville Tele as well (& I'm in Nashville, lol). I just used it because it sounds better than running active EMG's with this setup. This video took off more than I expected it too.
Not even close
☝🏻 these are cheesy & ear fatiguing awful sounds... we want huge blade runner cinematic synths... we need the sounds of the Enzo paired with the tracking, flexibility, & UI of the SY200!
It would be nice if there was a way to change out the sounds or download updates.
Really appreciate all these videos! I’ve got a basic question, my vexpress doesn’t seem to be controlling the ELevel even though it’s set for it in the menu. I’m sure it’s something simple that I’m missing, but any ideas?
Hmm, are you using a trs cable to connect the Vexpress? The cable would have a 2nd ring on each end of the plug. Glad you're enjoying the content!
@@Fullscalemusictn ah!! I wasn’t! Headed out to get one now! Thank you so much! Appreciate the quick response too
@@Fullscalemusictn so excited about the possibilities this will unlock
Glad I was able to help. Having the expression pedal gives you so many more great uses for this pedal. Enjoy!
it’s based off of the ibanez sm7
That is what they say it's based on, but I'd come to that conclusion without them saying it. The controls and what they cover seem completely different. I guess that's just the sound he was going for. Were there any 90's guitarist that were known to use the sm7? I'm drawing a blank myself, but I can think of plenty of 90's guitarists who used the MT-2.
I think it has more design in common with the pg14 pedal in the way they like to target a mid frequency to be boosted or cut. I think they used that kind of control set but with more high and low sculpting instead of a sag or push control. They married that with the sounds and clipping variations in the keeley filaments. I don't play music that requires heavy pedals like this but the filaments in my opinion is among the best for boosting and sculpting a dirty amp let alone a great saturation and tightness in the pedal itself if you rely on that for clipping. Metalzone inspired all of this I'm sure.
Interesting. I haven't tried the PG14 or any Keeley pedals yet, but I know they have a great reputation.
Started with sm7 circuit and then changed completely adding in the pg-14 mid controls. Definitely has mental zone inspo but sm7 was the first influence
Huh, never thought I’d see someone with a blood incantation shirt play a mandolin🤣
Yep, I'm a big BI fan. Even got to play a show with them on the Starspawn tour. Been into them ever since. I kinda got into mandolin almost by accident but I picked it up really quick. I play guitar in a band called Oubliette & we just released an album (Eternity Whispers) where I got to play some backing mandolin on a few different tracks.
I think you mean the EHX Hell Melter.
You're correct. I had 3 letter brand names on my mind and jumped to MXR. If I had a prize to give away it would be yours.
Fantastic album, one of the year's best! I fear it's gonna fly under the radar but it deserves to make every year end list...
Thanks! We are very proud of it and very happy with all the reviews it's received. Hopefully it will make some of those year end lists.
Pretty
That is the best ukulele I’ve ever seen
In a way, it is. But it's actually a Mandolin. I also do play Ukulele, and I have a Uke strung like a Mandolin which really throws people off.
Didn’t seem to sound like a metal zone… at least in their demo
It doesn't sound the same, but the control layout is the same, which I am a fan of. I'd still like to try it, but even in the demo videos I checked out, it just wasn't selling me. Maybe if it was $100, but not for $200. Like I said, I'd be more interested to try the Hell Melter for the extra controls and higher gain on tap, or even the MT-2 Waza. Both of those would be cheaper options.
@@Fullscalemusictn Fair enough. I am not a "metal" player, but more of a "grunge" player, so it is more up my alley than an MT-2, although I have never met a dirt pedal that I wouldn't use.
I can get that too. I lean more on the Metal side for sure and I too have a love for drive pedals. I really want to find a Fuzz pedal that works for me, but I have a really hard time dialing in Fuzz that agrees with my playing. I've got the Behringer SF300 and for the price it's good enough for me.
Nice keep up the good work I'm practicing about 2 or three hours a day learning improv my right hand is getting better at picking and my left hand is getting better too last summer I broke my right hand ..it's better months later now I'm using my pinky again peace brother 😎
Thanks! You keep up the good work as well. When I started playing Mandolin, I had the advantage of already playing guitar for a long time so it was a much easier transition than I expected.
Do you find thetes a big jump in volume when the loop bypassrs to switch boards?
It can happen, but I've worked around it. For one, it would probably be noticeable if you were holding out a chord while switching from one board to the next. 2nd, I don't really encounter that problem since I set up the Plethora boards to cover everything I should need for an entire set, and if there is a specific song that needs a different set of FX, then I just make a board that will cover that song. Also worth pointing out that I usually use my Plethora together with my HX Stomp, so if I need anything beyond the 5 slots on the X5 I can do it using the HX Stomp. Plus, I use Midi & Snapshots on the HX Stomp Command Center to seamlessly switch multiple FX on the X5 with 1 tap.
@@Fullscalemusictn I suspect that my solution may be to have a compressor at the start of my chain to lower the volume there and then match it on the Simplifier, which is a bit of a pain as I recently ran out of board space and switched the comp for a Source Audio C4 Synth pedal. I might have to switch the comp with my tuner and use the X5 tuner instead.
The tuner on the X5 is nice, but I don't like how you have to pull it up, so I actually use Midi Commands to bring up the X5 Tuner. This can be done with something as simple as the Disaster Area Midi Baby. It's tiny enough to fit into just about any crowded pedal board but can really act as the brains behind your switching.
@@Fullscalemusictn Yeah, I was thinking I might get one of those, but I have the X5, Nova Drive, and 2 source audio pedals connected to a source audio neuro hub at the moment.
mando ?
Yes
Harsh…
Yes, but that's how I normally play. Didn't make much sense to me to compare the Acoustic sound to a clean electric sound.
You are so brave ...your transition is coming along nicely 🕺💃🤣
Spoken like a true Kyle. The transition from Guitar to Mandolin isn't really that hard. Nothing brave about it, but it isn't for dummy's. In fact, I think some of the scales are much easier on Mandolin. Thanks for the algorithm bump, He-man 😘🤣
This was my first real pedal when i started playing. I always wish that i had held onto it. Excited to hear some of the tones from it and see how they hold up.
Thanks! I've been wanting to do a deep dive on it for a while now. It was my first multi FX unit and as much fun as i had with it back then, I understand way more about it now. No more running hot rodded amp sounds into my Fender combo.
Teach me
I'd be happy to teach you! I've been teaching for 20 years (12 on the Mandolin) & I do Virtual Lessons or In-person for people in the Nashville area. I'll keep posting these videos (especially since they are doing well) but private lessons would connect all the information I'm laying out.
That was fun. The Metal Master reminded me of my Ibanez DS7 distortion - really fizzy and pretty crap. I bought it for € 7 at a village sale and keep it for, you know, whatever. I also have the 50th SD-1, and it sounds (and looks) remarkably good compared to my vintage, beat up, early ‘80s MIJ pedal.
Thanks! I've always wanted to try those Ibanez Tonelock pedals, but never ended up with any. The Phat Bass Distortion & Lo-fi pedal have been on my want list for years.
Modeling amps have come a long way and sound great but they don't always interact with analog fuzz and synth pedals very well. Try it with a tube or solid state amp before completely writing it off. I'd also say this is a better pedal for guitar vs bass.
This is actually the 2nd video I made with this pedal. The first video was done with guitar and a Simplifier MK2, so all analog signal chain (link below). Even through my tube amp, it just doesn't sound or feel right for how I play. Doing this video with the Bass was more about keeping me from playing chords and the HX Stomp just makes it way easier to move the pedal around in the signal chain. Not really a bit crusher like I thought it might be. ruclips.net/video/D-cUHGuLbTY/видео.html
@@Fullscalemusictn I wasn’t sure if it was not sounding the best because not playing well with modeling or going direct but maybe it’s the approach. Which is ok if that doesn’t work for how you write or play. It’s a finicky pedal. It’s similar to a MXR Blue Box, you want to bring that sub octave in and play very cleanly above the 7th fret. On guitar I would use the neck pickup. It’ll still warble and track imperfect but it should sound like a sub octave synth, 8 bit thing. I like it on slower single note riffs with notes sustained. Playing fast or with chords will cause the tracking to go nuts. It’s a crude octave pedal versus a bit crusher. There’s cleaner pedals out there for octaves and bit crushing. It may not work for your sound. Does it sound like that in the room with a speaker? Should sound like a bassy Nintendo moog lead in person.
Nice playing dude, was looking for a video for Simplifier-X with pedals, and found yours. Just a feedback, your voice is barely audible. It will greatly benefit if you could probably use a seperate mic for your voice. Keep rocking!!
Thank you for the feedback! Yes, sometimes I do talk a little quieter, especially when I record at night. I do use an external mic (an AT2020), but I should probably just put together a channel strip to help the voice stand out more. I really want to try out the Simplifer X too!
Épico mi amigo❤
That was really interesting, thank you very much, kind sir!
Thanks!
is it straight into audio interface? what if i use it into fx loop stack it with real pedal like rat or big muff, does it still sounds gnarly?
Yes, I use a UltraSound DI Plus preamp when I use the HX Stomp, but other than that it's straight to the Audio Interface, Which is an old Digi002. For your question about the FX loop, do you mean the HX Stomps FX loop or your amps FX loop? Both can be done. If you run this setup to your amp just make sure you go in directly to the amps FX loop, not the main input, and make sure to turn off the speaker simulation. If you mean using the HX Stomps FX loop to add a real Rat or Big Muff that can be done too. I made a video doing that with a Rat pedal but I haven't been able to do the same with a Big Muff yet. I'll link the video for you.
ruclips.net/video/pK0yzdjZKGU/видео.html
@@Fullscalemusictn oh nice, thats answer everything. tank you!!
The Bit Commander isn't a polyphonic pedal, so of course it sounds bad if you only play chords into it. It's like the early Boss octave pedals that were also monophonic. When used with single note riffs or lead parts, it sounds really awesome. But if all you do is play chords, all you're going to get is glitchiness.
That is a good point, and it's possible the way I typically play just doesn't mesh well with what it's supposed to do. I guess I have a different sound in my head when I'm looking for a bit crushy feel. I'd love to try out other pedals like the Chase Bliss Generation Loss or the Walrus Audio Mako M1 to see if I can get closer to that tone I'm always searching for. You've also given me another idea for a video. Maybe I should try running my Bass through the Bit Commander! That would force me to stick to single note riffs. I think I'll try that before returning the pedal to my friend. Thanks!
@Poparad I made a follow-up video using my Bass. ruclips.net/video/QBofliWjA1M/видео.html

Thank You!
So if I want to put, let’s say a compressor, in front of my amp, with dirty pedal also in front of my amp, but everything else in my amps loop, how would I cable everything up?
Thanks for the question. Doing that with my setup, I'd run guitar to the X5 for the compressor, then from the X5 FX loop to the drive pedal, then to the front of the amp. Then, from the amps FX loop, return to the X5 FX loop and finally, from the X5 output back to the amps FX Return.
@@Fullscalemusictn thanks! So basically the 4 cable method with the dirt boxes going between the x5 fx loop and the preamp input?
Correct
@@Fullscalemusictn thank you again!
nearly every "maligned" distortion pedal sounds so much better in the FX return than into the front of an amp. Thanks for sharing :)
Agreed, many of those pedals are just misunderstood or aren't being used correctly. I always loved doing this process with pedals and I'm glad people are here for it. Thanks for watching!
The bees were angry that day my friend.
Lol, I wish this thing had the mid frequency control like the MT-2
Slayer doesn't have scooped mids my friend. They are heavy mid.
Correct. Metallica scoops mids and Slayer boosts mids. I may have said it backwards, I'll have to check. I still remember the very first time I heard Slayer and how crazy the tone sounded to me after listening to Metallica while learning guitar. I loved it and could tell right away it was different.
@@Fullscalemusictn yup!
9:48 All late 90s agressive edgy video games had this tone in the soundtracks .....so I'm seeing (or atleast everyone had to have seen) this pedal as a win
Better pick one up while they are still cheap. It hasn't had the Bad Monkey bump just yet.
@@Fullscalemusictn my man, I had one way back in 2004, made a rookie mistake of connecting a guitar fx processor adapter and blew/burnt its internal circuit.....could never be fixed after that, still remains a museum piece in my room
Dude.....call it whatever but this has the exact tone for the middle part of kid rock's bawitdba just after the second verse.....hear it and you'll know I'm right
Lol, now I can't unhear it. This would have come out somewhere around that time. Maybe a little after.
We are always hearing good distortion sounds. You may have cracked it open. We need more videos on bad distortion sounds, as I forget. Some metal heads might actually like this one. And by the way, there looks like there is nothing simple about the simplifier.
Thanks! I'll try to be the go-to for bad distortion sounds, lol. It's really not that bad, but I know there's plenty of other videos where people hate on it. It's definitely not versatile enough to do jazz or blues. It's literally called the Metal Master. That's what it wants to be. I'm gonna keep messing with it and do some stacking & blending videos soon. The Simplifer definitely looks complicated, but you have to consider that theirs no menu diving or hidden features. All that control is right on the surface so it's much easier for people watching to see what my settings are. I'll probably try the Metal Master with my HX Stomp at some point too.
It's meant to simplify your rig/setup lol :D
sounds good to me.
Thanks! I'm gonna keep messing with it. Especially if people are interested in hearing more.
