Tote the Weary Load
“Tote the Weary Load" is a video that explores the South’s nostalgic relationship to its history. Gone with the Wind was chosen as source material because of its reputation for constructing the popular memory of the Civil War and stereotypes of the South in national and international imaginations. Nearly every scene that takes place on or near a staircase was appropriated, sampled and remixed in this looped video. The staircases are mirrored and flipped, creating an Escher-like labyrinth, taking the spectator on a tour of Hollywood’s reimagining of the South.

You can tell you are a big time amateur, my shop in my home it much better than you have. I etch all kinds of parts, that people find hard to find, I also filter my etch, so it last longer
That's great! Thanks!
Why do when I damp my Al sheet with a damp sponge( for rolling ink) all of the oil paint I use as an ink print is removed from my image? Thank you for your useful video.

So helpful, thank you!
a great tutorial! thank you
i remmember reading . the first photograph taken in history. are the same plate you were using.
Why don’t you do the marking and registration before you clean the plate? Too easy to add contamination after that, I think.
Hi! Thank you so muchhh, that's a great tutorial! One question: what % is your ferric chloride?
Where do you get the red iron oxide tracing paper from? I can not find it
I actually make it by rubbing red iron oxide powder (borrowed from the ceramics department) into newsprint. You can buy a bag of it from Amazon here www.amazon.com/Red-Iron-Oxide-Natural-Pounds/dp/B004OKDTX2/ref=asc_df_B004OKDTX2/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=194876912818&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=8909224961127141714&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9005530&hvtargid=pla-311173538864&psc=1

Good tips on making film positives. :)
Good reminder of how labor intensive this process is. In the end, I just find stone lithography more satisfying, nuanced, and in keeping with the original invention and use of lithography. Personally speaking, I cannot get excited about drawing on a metal plate for litho. However I find working on metal plates in intaglio printmaking extremely exciting.
I understand what you mean. I started lithography with flexible aluminum sheets. Stone lithography just seems like too much trouble to me.
Hi! What are you using as stop out, please?
nice!!!!
Just wondering do you have to do the hot water and cotton wool bit?
I would - it cleans off particles on the surface of the ball-grained aluminum so that your drawing material sticks better. It would be a shame to spend hours on a drawing that then gets washed off because you skipped a step!
Again, a thorough explanation and VERY HELPFUL!! (where do you get red iron oxide for the tracing???) THANKS!
Thank you! I usually "borrow" some from the ceramics studio - but I just checked and you can order a 5 lb bag from Amazon. Should last you a LONG time!
YOU HAVE DONE AN EXCELLENT JOB DESCRIBING THE PROCESS! Best Vid I have seen on this!! THANKS Sooo much! Now I have the confidence to go ahead with my intaglio printing project for my MFA printmaking class!!
Glad its helping others besides my own students! Good luck!
Plz tell me....used chemical name
such a helpful video! thank you so much
