After seeing Lethal Weapon I bought a Taurus PT-92 back in the early 1990s as a cheaper alternative for the Beretta 92 FS. I had the gun for a year and sold it for the same price as I had bought it and got an original Beretta 92FS. I was in the Army National Guard after I got out of the Regular Army. I learned how to shoot better with guys from the Sheriffs Department introducing me to Defensive Pistol Shooting Association before it became IDPA. During Army National Guard Qualification for pistol I topped every qualification and defeated the Regular Army during state and interservice pistol qualification with the M9. Not a bad service handgun for a 9mm Parabellum. I really love the 1911 personally and did quite well with it too.

Beretta 92FS, Paul Harrell's handgun of choice. RIP Paul, a great RUclips contributor. You mention Kate Beckinsale, her father Richard was the consummate underdog British comedy actor. I believe his last role was a straight leading man in a one-off TV drama Last Summer ruclips.net/video/F6A0D5J1mx4/видео.html Might be of interest to you as a snapshot of your childhood London. I often went to Eastern Europe before the Iron Curtain dropped or The Wall Fell. Once you got there, everything was dirt cheap. Developed a habit of watching films. International releases were in English, subtitled to the local language. 1988 me and my friend had to shut the *F* up when we realised we were laughing well before the locals got the joke and were not amusing them. 1999 or 2000 saw Mel Gibson in Payback in what looked like a school lecture theatre in České Budějovice. A properly violent film! Pointless ramblings, but everything including the gun, the lead actor and another actress using the gun were covered with odd bits of background.

"Discover the origins of this legendary 9mm and its journey from John Browning’s innovative mind to Dieudonné Saive’s finishing touches." WTF??? JMB had very little to do with the GP35 - that's a myth of about the same level as most of the product of Hollywood. And there is no "MkI" GP35 The double stack design was developed by Saive - JMB didn't do any "perfecting" of it, and he didn't want anything to do with the project that became the GP35 to begin with. He believed the double stack magazine would make pistols unreliable. And Saive was a firearms designing genius in his own right - he wasn't an up and coming apprentice of JMB. Other designs of Saive's are the FN49 and FN FAL, "the strong right arm of the free world". Saive developed the first prototype of the pistol by modifying an FN Model 1903 to accept his version of a double stack magazine he developed for the French RFP. When the French rejected Saive's prototype, FN sent the prototype and the double stack magazine to to JMB. JMB developed two prototypes as his submissions. Both were striker fired instead of hammer fired; one was a straight blowback, the other was a rotating breech design. The patents can be found online and the designs compared to the GP35 that was eventually adopted by the Belgian military. The French rejected both of JMB's designs; he sold the patents to his two designs to Winchester and went back to work on his final design, his Superposed shotgun, dying a few years later. And that was the total involvement JMB had in the development of the pistol. BTW, the GP35 isn't the only pistol NOT designed by JMB that FN put Browning's name on. Another example is the "Baby Browning" - Browning had even less to do with that pistol. FN was not stupid: they knew putting JMB's name on firearms was a great way to sell firearms here to Americans. So much for our American myth that JMB designed the GP35.

I bought the box set at Walmart and that episode is included with the original Peter Gabriel soundtrack. This is important if you're like me and you like music as much as guns.

One thing the S&W 645 did for law enforcement was it let officers who either weren't comfortable with cocked-and-locked 1911s or had dept regulations against such, finally carry a .45 on duty. Three officers I worked with, one a dear (and now sadly late) friend, each bought one when they first came out. As for the model 39, I always thought it was one of the most beautiful DA/SA service pistols. My old dept had one in inventory (we had to supply our own guns most of my career but the department had a few condemned guns in inventory for issue). I used it for off-duty and when we were doing water patrol on wave runners (tough job, LOL), figuring if something went wrong, better to lose THEIR gun than MY Browning or SIG. ;) That was one of the guns I hated turning back in shortly before retiring. Great pistol, very comfortable, easy to shoot well, and accurate.

Later, cast-frame MKIIIs are actually stronger than earlier forged models. Hence, MKIIIs could be chambered in .40 S&W. Also, the Hi Power's contribution to handgun design was not its magazine, it is it's tilting barrel mechanism that almost every non-1911 modern pistol made utilizes.

Basically because it costs more. Only Colt recently seemed to have figured out (with their snake guns) that if you invest more to make a really great firearm, you can charge more for it and people will pay more for quality. I hope FN, Smith, Beretta, and the others come to their senses and give us what we want.

US Navy Seal a Teams used it a lot back before and during the 1st Gulf War. It handled that desert sand with no jambs. Never will go out of style and I saw some amazing shots with it from my brother who was in Team 5 for 17 years. I am short with smallish hands so didn't like the width of the grip but still have a couple double stack clones that I shoot pretty well just don't want to lug one around as a cc. I like pocket pistols like the Ruger single stacker 9mm's and hope that 8 rounds will get the job done. When in doubt, run!!!!!

I remember reading in a gun magazine (American Rifleman or maybe it was Handguns?) that Eastwood took a Model 29 (the director's own, I think) out to shoot so he could accurately mimic the recoil while firing blanks. After retiring (I only knew one cop that carried a .44 magnum but I knew 2 that carried a .41 magnum ... also, I'm old, LOL), I bought myself a 3" model 629 Deluxe and it is a lot of fun ... at least for the first couple of cylinder fulls. It's the 9mm 1911! My only issue with mine was the hammer bite so I replaced it. Very accurate, reliable and fantastic trigger if you had one without the firing block safety (I removed mine). I didn't carry it so I was less concerned about the safety issues. It was the last firearm John Browning worked on although FN made major modifications after he died and before it was accepted by military's pre-ww2 and post-ww2. Even the Nazi's carried them after they took over the factory.

He was a pretty old man by the 20's and there wasn't a huge demand for large weapons after WW1 so he wanted to see if he could improve on the 1911. @@controlfreak1963 That "protégé" was a firearms genius in his own right whose designs included the FN49 and FN FAL. Like Browning, some of his best work was modifying and improving existing military weapons. He's also the one who created the original prototype by modifying the existing FN Model 1903; JMB wanted nothing to do with the project. JMB's two designs were striker fired, one being a blowback design - and both were swiftly rejected by the French. The patents can be found for viewing online: you won't see much in those two designs that resembles either the 1911 or the GP35.
