Using PhotoShop to create a Triptych
Просмотров 5 тыс.4 года назад
When a single image doesn't have the impact, but a series of three tells the whole story, a triptych can display the pictures beautifully, particularly if you add some 3-D "depth" into the display. John Gravett is the author of "PhotoShop for Landscape Photographers" published by Crowood Press. This video includes additional techniques not included in the book.

Ho seguito passo passo il tuo tutorial e sono riuscita a trasformare il mio Helios m4. Grazie mille!
Thousandth like!!! Thanks for the review!
Hello sir, and thank you for the video! I just got the 24-200 lens together with the Z5 camera. Didn't had much tine to test it but I like very much the photos I took until now. Please tell me, in your opinion, would this lens perform better with the Z7 or other Nikon camera with more megapixels? Would it be a big difference in quality?
@@radupetrupetica with any high resolution camera any lens defects will be more obvious, but only in larger prints. Before you buy a Z7 think carefully about how large you are planning to print your pictures. I’m pretty sure that the 24-200 will work perfectly well with it.
@@johngravett9194 thank you very much for the answer! Maybe I'll get the Z7 or something better in the future. For now I enjoy the Z5, it's my first mirrorless, I was using DSLR until now. Have a great day sir!
Brilliant!
Beautiful photos! From a French photographer. 👍🏼
Excellent, very helpful video. I just made my first Lith darkroom print this week and was delighted. I cannot wait to try this in Photoshop.
I just found this reivew and your channel and I subscribed. Brilliant, practical, insisghful review.
Thanks for a superb and practical review. I have the 24-200 as it came with the camera. Your point re zooming to an equivalent 6ft print says it all. It's easy to hear other reviewers pulling apart and completing microscopic examination of lens performance, but in truth who and when will an average Joe get to benefit or even see the extra minutia improvement for the massive additional cost. As a basic amateur enthusiast I love the one lens, compact and lightness and anything better is probably way outside my skill set and compromises the benefits of traveling with a z camera. Thanks again for saving me the expense of believing I really needed to blow $2500 on a F2.8 zoom or prime. I will invest in a lens to suite landscape shots in the near future but for now and for travels through Europe I will stick with what I have and enjoy the luxury of travelling light and as you say "never having the wrong lens"

Great, i've been looking for something like this because i stil dream about the PHotospeed prints i used to make
Thx John. The best explanation of Lith so far. Inspiring to get to do it myself :) You are an excellent photographer and guide as well.
You are a star....looked at all the videos and decided I could not do this...then you came along...❤❤....I am dyslexic...and I could follow easily on my phone as you showed it step by step and not talked a hole in my head xxxx
Cool ! Thanks a lot !
I am using a Z6ii but I do not see the Peaking stack image on option in the Focus shift shooting option.
Are you using a Z lens, or an F- fit with the adapter - peaking stack images only appear with Z-lenses (annoying, isn't it!)
@@johngravett9194 Yes, I am using 105 Macro F2.8 Z mount S lens Nikkor. I am using my camera in auto mode.
I appreciate you for taking the efforts.
Спасибо за подробное описание смены линзы на Гелиос 44-2. Будем фотографировать в творческом режиме)))))
Hi John does this work with back button
Looks nothing like the real thing , which is beautiful
Why is it so hard to just take pictures of FLAT CHARTS to test sharpens instead of using freaking 3 dimension brick walls that obviously isn't ideal due to depth of field??? It's ridiculous seeing people pixel peeping on bunch of stupid brick walls that are IMPERFECT BY NATURE I really wish more people would learn from Christopher frost by using STANDARDIZED test charts for pixel peeping sharpness review STOP USING STUPID BRICK WALLS People make fun of those using brick walls to test lens sharpness as if the act of pixel preeping itself is something to be ridiculed but it's actually some people's weird obsession with brick walls that gives pixel peeping the bad rep it has
Because life is in three dimensions. Unless you spend your life shooting two dimensional subjects. If that’s your bag, but a macro lens 🤪
Could this also worl with a Helios M44-6?
I have a Helios M44-4 which is cosmetically similar. I did try to reverse the front element, but had real trouble trying to get the retaining ring back on the thread (in fact, I couldn't) So I reversed the rear element instead, and it gives the most amazing bubble bokeh!
@@johngravett9194 I'll try my m44-6 , also have a M44-7 , but that one is a one-off a kind, do I won't mess with that one ;-)
@@Zittendeeend My M44-4 cost me £6, looking at the price of M44-7s - I don't think I'd be messing with it either!
I thought it would be a very difficult process. Just took a look at my 44-3, and I think I'll give the rear element a try, as I seem to like a bubble look more than the swirl. Thank you.
I'm absolutely blown away by your video. Thank you John, I've been looking for something like this for so long. I really got caught up with the lith process in the darkroom but haven't been able to figure out a way to do it digitally, at least to the same level I was getting the the darkroom. Now I have hope at last! Your prints, your explanation, your delivery - all fantastic. I appreciate your time and effort to put this out there and I look forward to exploring the rest of your videos. Thanks again!
24-200 SPECTACULAR LENS!
what a great video - subscribed - so glad i found this
This was great thank you
Many thanks for this really has helped
Really enjoyed this John - very clear instructions and I have enjoyed trying the technique out on some of my images quite successfully

Something I must try, great video John.
Wow! Really nicely done and quite helpful. Thanks.
John may I ask you a question? How do you create your text image for your signature ? Been struggling to make mime not sure how.
Stunning effects 😍
Excellent comparison that is personally helpful for my forthcoming purchase. Many thanks.
love my Viltrox 85, great for portraits
Love the technique (and your pictures!) and the T-shirt. I remember your great teaching from a workshop of yours I did some years ago. Thanks for the information.
Wow that’s a huge difference in price. I would thought living in the Lakes everything has to be waterproof 😂
I've never been a fan of getting a camera soaked - that's why I've always used Cameramacs to protect them. A waterproof cover will keep the Viltrox as dry as anything. I've shot quite a bit with it over the past couple of days and am blown away with the value - and performance!
Excellent technique. I have come with a similar approach using Darktable using parametric masking instead of Photoshop.
Great lesson on the lens, thanks!!
Nice review. I'll but one right away. The lens is VR according to the detail descriptions I have read
Very informative presentation. I have a six inch high 'jessops' that I use regularly on my Nikon 1 J5. I have been looking for something for my Canon mirror less camera and I now know what to look for.
John. This is brilliant. I love lith prints, and this gets me close. Thank you. I am now "Subscribed".
Thanks for the sub!
Thanks John, loved this!
My pleasure!
Thanks John, I will try this technique for the next club competition.
Best of luck!
Hi John, enjoyed the video and the results! I tried this and experienced an issue when trying to save back into LR. LR didn't recognise the Duotone? Did I miss something?
To save back to lightroom, try Image>Mode>RGB to change it back to an RGB file - doesn't change the image at all, but saves easily (I've incorporated it into an action)
Cheers John, worked a treat!
Great technique and as usual from a John simple explanation of the process.
Glad you enjoyed it
That is a great technique John - I will be trying it soon.
Great to see more workshops , John. Keep up the good work
Hello, I have the Nikon Z6 and a Nikkor Z 24-200mm f4-f6.3 VR lens. Can you tell me what the sweet spot of this telephoto lens for sharper photos? Thank you.
Are these Nikon lenses compatible with a Canon camera?
Nice presentation , now I understand photo stacking with my Z6 Thank You ......
