    Please don’t use herbicides on dandelions. Glyphosate is horrible for the soil. It’s not worth your “perfect” yard. It’s not that important for it to look perfect! If you aren’t willing to dig them up or hire someone to dig them up, and so many herbicides are “forever chemicals”. They don’t break down in the soil, they can damage the mycelia (fungi) network underground as well as many other microbes and small organisms that help your garden. Herbicides and pesticides are responsible for the decline of bees, and many are known carcinogens. There are natural ways to deal with weeds. Please don’t promote Glyphosate/Round Up. This stuff is illegal in many countries now, and for good reasons! If you want a “lawn”, plant clover. It stays greener, you don’t have to mow, and is pretty and full of little treats for pollinators when it blooms.

    Well, how disappointing we launch right into using ‘weed killers’. What about pulling them as soon as you see them in early Spring? Staying on top of them prevents them dropping seed. I just saw another dead or dying Monarch butterfly this morning walking my dog in my residential neighborhood. Chemicals are OVERUSED just to maintain perfect turf. Turf is also a water hig. I live with weeds in my lawn. They are green. Weedeater cuts them.

    If these are experts in their fields then they should know that the weeds are in fact helping when you use any type of weed suppressant or you pull the weed you defeat the purpose of helping the succession of soil in the soil food web rather than using harmful chemicals that sit back in the micro population and reset the succession of soil back to one each time you can in fact leave the roots intact in the ground and cut the plant and allow it to come back essentially doing a chop and drop after you’ve done this enough times that alone can start the succession of soil I have seen it in my own yard not purchasing any type of grass seed or anything simply by chopping dropping leaving the roots intack to allow the soil organic matter to build up and nutrient exchange process to happen within the soil food web within the soil and within just a few years you can see the succession of soil change in zone 6B in the Oklahoma panhandle for instance if you start on a plot and reset it to zero by tilling everything the first thing you’ll notice are goat heads after a while it will switch to more manageable weeds that are not as painful and then later on it’ll switch to grasses I’ve seen this happen within a three year. You can also speed up the succession of soil doing natural farming preparation‘s like Korean natural farming, JADAM, back to Eden garden approach which is simply adding woodchips, multch, lasagna soil making, compost and much more.

    Why aren't native annual grasses which act as a nursery to native perennial grasses used. It seems like native annual grasses are a key component that are missing from many ecosystem though they were once common. The missing component may allow fast movers like cheat grass to take over. I know in CA they are starting to incorporate the ca native annual grass , festuca microstachys in native seed mixes used for reseeding after fires.

      I don’t know if the boiling water is effective on all weeds. You can also get one of those weed/pest blowtorches. It allows you to target a specific spot after you’ve gotten rid of most of the weeds. If you’re a little bit of a pyromaniac at heart, it’s fun. Also, I’ve heard of boiling water to decimate ant nests.

      Learn the lifecycle of any plant you’re trying to take care of and you can most certainly illuminate it without any chemicals or tillage of any kind. Take bamboo for example one of the most notorious plants on our planet to get rid of people spend 1015 years trying to get rid of it with little to no success but if you simply manage bamboo properly you can very easily take care of bamboo. It’s the same thing for just about every plant. There are some instances where the succession of soil and the native microbiology needs to be reset to a natural balance utilizing Korean natural farming methods you can actually appropriately do this naturally it’s not something you can learn overnight it’s something that takes anywhere from 3 to 5 years to fully understand

    • @Dust2LivingSoil
      @Dust2LivingSoil 6 месяцев назад

      Plants are pretty fascinating they have symbiotic relationships With everything from the soil microbiology you to fire to animals bugs etc. nature is naturally perfect and everything has a place and a way to control it, if nature is out of balance then things begin to take over Korea natural farming is actually being utilized in Hawaii to help mitigate and illuminate non-native species on the islands in order to bring change and bring back the native natural habitat

    • @Dust2LivingSoil
      @Dust2LivingSoil 6 месяцев назад

      But then on the other hand unfortunately Hawaii also has people with significantly more money and heavy research teams that are flying around the islands shooting plants with herbicide paintball guns from helicopters which is most certainly affecting more than just that plant specifically affecting the entire microbiology around it and there needs to be more sustainable practices being done. There is not enough research done about the consistency of herbicides pesticides and fungicide and what they do to mother nature however if you open your eyes anywhere around you it’s pretty clear to see what it does. If we’re all just being honest and find better solutions then flying around with paintball guns is not the way to go about it.

      Formerly considered a single species, Toxicodendron radicans, poison ivies are now generally treated as a complex of three separate species: Toxicodendron radicans, Toxicodendron rydbergii, and Toxicodendron orientale. They are well known for causing urushiol-induced contact dermatitis, an itchy, irritating, and sometimes painful rash, in most people who touch them. The rash is caused by urushiol, a clear liquid compound in the plant's sap. They are variable in appearance and habit, and despite its common name, it is not a "true" ivy (Hedera), but rather a member of the cashew and pistachio family (Anacardiaceae).

    Wildlife are also great at bringing in weed seeds. Birds and squirrels are two great examples. Birds love pokeweed berries, and the seeds pass through the bird unharmed. It is why I frequently find pokeweed seedlings around my T-posts and other structures in my veggie garden, since they like to perch on those. I also frequently find oak seedlings where the squirrels have buried them after taking them from the surrounding wood line. I would imagine field mice do the same.
