Lake Superior, part two. The Season Finale.
July, 2024
Here we are. At the end of another travel season. This trip certainly was different, but definitely no less valuable. Today's adventure takes us to Tettegouche State Park, Split Rock Lighthouse, and Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.
I want to thank you all for adventuring with Wyatt and I this season. For the kind words of encouragement as we dealt with breakdown after breakdown. Next season is going to look much different, as I feel it is time to move on from Vandalf the Great after 8 incredible years.
My Solar Setup:
This is my second setup I've installed in Vandalf the Grey. The more you travel, the more you figure out what your needs are. I've stuck with Renogy products both...

Lake Superior North Shore, part one.
Просмотров 1162 месяца назад
June, 2024 It is almost improbable that a place can be so beautiful. This is my first time in this part of the country, and my first time seeing any Great Lake with my own eyes. Honestly, it has taken all the breakdowns and problems that I've encountered on this trip to lead me here, instead of the mountains of Wyoming and Montana that I had previously planned. And sometimes, the realities of t...
An Evening at Makoshika State Park. S4: Vlog #60

June,, 2024 Wow. What a memorable place. In typical "Johnny" fashion, I saw a picture on Google Maps, and decided I needed to explore it. Makoshika State Park, on the eastern region of Montana, happens to be the state's largest State Park. It's also incredibly gorgeous, with camping available, and relatively empty. I was fortunate enough to get to spend a day exploring here, and was greeted wit...

May, 2024 I LOVE the Black HIlls. I find myself called there constantly, and I just couldn't wait to get back. It's as if these lands have a gravitational pull for me. This week, little Wyatt and I are continuing west where we'll take a short adventure to Badlands National Park, and then onward to the Black Hills. It's a bit of a long episode, but there's just so much to explore here! We're goi...

May, 2024 Big surprise, another video of breakdowns. My friends, this trip has been the most challenging of them all. So much so, that this video happens over a two-week timespan, and will completely alter the trajectory of my 2024 long-term travels. If you've followed my channel for any time at all, you know I like to keep things positive, inspire others, and show what our amazing country has ...

May, 2024 New River Gorge National Park. NP #34 for me, and #3 for little Wyatt. I have to say this is easily the most dog-friendly national park of them all, with dogs being allowed on almost every trail in this massive 53-mile park. Join us as we explore from south to north, making mistakes along the way, and meeting a Wolf who guides us down to the bottom of the gorge where he grew up. This ...

April, 2024 "Into each life, some rain must fall." That is the quote for this entire Season 4 adventures. There will be much, much rain. This week, Wyatt and I get to stay at our "second family's" farm in Old Fort, NC for a little over a week as I address a brake problem, transmission leak, and a faulty factory alarm system. Oh, and we get into a few adventures, as well at Chimney Rock State Pa...

I LOVE the little town of Helen. Yes, it's touristy, yes it's kitschy, and yes....the town is designed to mimic a German village. That's weird, I know. BUT, this town means a lot to me. It's one of the first adventures I have had in my first year of #vanlife. It's the first time I ever spent a night in Vandalf the Grey. It's the first time I ever saw a bear in the wild. The level of your surprise at the size of Lake Superior is surprising. Another van lifer I followed was similarly surprised when he laid eyes on Lake Michigan for the first time. He was from San Diego, so he was familiar with large bodies of water. FYI, the other four Great Lakes can fill Lake Superior. It's big and it's deep. You should check out the youtube videos of people surfing Lake Superior waves. That will really blow your mind.

Your comments at the end of the video suggest a deep appreciation for something bigger than ourselves - something outside ourselves that may reach into a part of us we didn't even know existed. I too, have ascended Mato Paha, leaving offerings along the way, including the offering of a song, at the summit, on my flute. A sacred site of the Lakota and Northern Cheyenne for more than 10,000 years - and how long has Christianity been around? Be well, stay safe. 🥾
