What differential did you put in there? The M Performance LSD?
@@NoLifeMeta My 340i has the M Performance LSD. This is on my 435i and unfortunately the M Performance LSD was discontinued about 3yrs ago or so. I had Birds Auto in the UK build me a spare unit with a Quiafe LSD.
@@sunbish Around how much did it cost to do that? I know diffsonline has that for around 3k?
@@NoLifeMeta I want to say somewhere around between $2100-2500usd. I can’t recall the exact figure, but it definitely was less than $3K.
B58 for me
Two of the best sounding BMW engines IMO
Something in The b58 piping (if that makes sense) creates that weird, odd, hollow phantom like resonance. I didn’t know how much I liked it until I heard one coming from a distance and I heard that higher pitched (is that a 7th note?) noise singing away long before I heard the rest of the exhaust. You can hear it in this video as well. In the first approach you can barely here the n55 until it gets to the light, But from the same distance the b58 isn’t exactly louder as a whole, but that higher pitched frequency is so much more pronounced that you hear it from a far greater distance. As someone else said, a high revving version of the b58 would be absolutely insane.
ty for the knowledge
You mentioned you have the upgraded BOV, how hard was the job? Or did you just pay a shop to do it? Bc I’m considering having it but it just looks like such a pain
@@agxnt7649 I knocked it out with the inlet. Wasn’t too terrible for me, I use to turn wrenches at the dealer so I do all my own work. There’s several detailed videos online that could watch and see if it’s something you want to attempt.
@ yea I saw the videos and a lot of people have to remove the water pump and that just doesn’t sound like fun, did you not have to do that? I recently did my inlet and it was smoother than I expected and got good value out of it, I’m wondering how much better an upgraded bov will be
@ I unbolted the water pump from the bracket and moved it to the side. Wasn’t bad

If used to its potential, absolutely.
@@sunbish yeah im in the same setup as you
ok so without knowing which was which at first. judging by the pass, the black one revved higher and sounded better. the white one had a more growly deeper sound. in the back-to-back, the b58 sounds fruitier, richer and deeper (wtf?) and the n55 sounds higher-revving. i like both, they're different flavors. if that b58 would rev higher it'd be a real killer.
They literally sound the same . It’s pointless to be bias they both sound good .
@@swagonwheelselites6365 they don’t sound alike at all 😂
So what’s the best shift point for the b58 making 500whp
It is tune and turbo dependent. For my particular setup, it was 5900-6100 depending on the gear.

Hey, I have a 435i fbo n55 as well. I have everything you have listed except for the hpfp and bar map sensor. Does the 3.5 bar map sensor give you more power? What does it exactly do?

As a RWD 340i owner who has no interest in going larger turbo for years (if at all), I appreciate your content so much. So thank you. I personally had a B8.5 S4 before this car, and while I loved the effortless launches, I found the highway hits to be lacking badly. It was quick, running 12.06@114 how I drove it every day full weight and All-seasons. But the 60-130 was weak @12.1 (average DA is about 1500 here). Enough to hang with a Scat pack or older Corvette/Mustang/Camaro. But never gap or enough to challenge the newer Muscle. Since I am primary doing highway for 95% of my driving, and also having never done so before, I chose RWD due to lighter weight and less drivetrain parasitic loss. I purposely chose to lose the insane street launches for a better rolling hit. I also find driving fast through curvy sections more satisfying, using throttle as a tool to rotate the vehicle. This is my daily, so I just want to keep stock turbo but still run a setup that can have me keep up with or outright beat the common quick cars that I see (mostly muscle cars). That said I just installed my Stage 2+ package (TU pump and VSRF DP) past weekend. I am on 93 due to puss poor e85 availability. I am running a Sutphin trans tune, and full weight car. I have 19” Apex ARC-8s and Michelin PS4S in 265 rear section, 235 fronts. Today I got my first test in, and it was 10.1 for 60-130 and that was going from ~58 including the gear drop etc. If I preselect the gear and start on boost I think it’ll be mid 9s if not lower in ideal conditions. I think that is fantastic with bigger, sticky tires and full weight. When I get the Flex fuel kit and run some higher ethanol mixes (and better DA as today was north of 1100), I am hoping to find lower 8s range. That would put a 707 Hellcat firmly in range. Given this is a full weight luxury sedan with exactly $725 in power adders and maybe $900 in software (although I think less) I am super happy if I can get there. Those were my more modest goals compared to your achievements, but I’m very happy with my choice in this car. Thank you for your insightful videos on the platform. I would ask only one question… did you do any tested with the front mount intake? I have stayed stock air box as it seems to be the fastest and most consistent BUT that was all comparative to the short ram style intakes. I haven’t seen anyone run the FM intake as it’s newish still and definitely haven’t seen anyone run one and comment on whether it’s better performance wise/share some data on the subject. Thanks again!
Thanks! I try to spread some knowledge or at least try to help the community have a better understanding on some things that I think might not be spoken about much or explained. I’m by no means an expert, but I am always trying to learn more myself. On my 435i I tried the CTS intake, but the car was not any quicker 60-130 nor did it make a difference time or trap speed wise in the 1/4 mile. I took it off and put the stock air box back on with the drop in filter. I honestly think the front mount intakes work, but they need a custom tune that’s tailored for it. On my 340i, I did remove the stock air box and stock paper filter in favor for a RK Tunes front mount intake. I sadly didn’t get any back 2 back comparisons, as the silencer broke on the stock one so it went into the garbage. The car did previously do a 7.7-7.8 60-130 and was right at 130 in the 1/4 mile on the stock setup, and with the RK tunes setup it did 7.4-7.5 and the trap speed went up to 131. I want to say the stock setup was in -500ft to -800ft DA while the RK tunes was right at sea level. I don’t think that was solely the intake setup though, as I wasn’t previously using drag mode on xHP but I did have that active when the RK tunes setup went on.
@@sunbish I appreciate the info my dude. Maybe after the flex fuel sensor (I’m stage 2+ but run the 93 map using 93/2gal E85 right now) I’ll get the front mount. As long as it doesn’t LOSE power like some intakes seem to, I wouldn’t mind hearing the turbo more. It also looks aggressive af to the eyes looking for that type of thing. I think Stage 2+ with a higher ethanol content and I should be able to drop from 10 flat to mid 8s (1k+ DA) 60-130. That’s my goas. Your car proves it’s in reach with even more meat left on the bone. I just want to stay with a stock 707 Hellcat. That will bury anything but the most modified cars below that level. God these cars are such a good tuner special… they’re really cheap for 500hp and stealthy comfort when you want.
What's the reason behind the power dying out after 5k rpm?
The stock turbo is small.
I was wanting to go back to your 435i build overview and you deleted almost everything on instagram and youtube, why?

Your car defies the laws of physics to do a 10.8 sec 1/4 mile would require 530whp at 3525 lbs cutting a 1.68 60ft. you are cutting a 1.7 which means if your weight is correct its impossible for it to do a 10.98sec 1/4 mile on the hp you are saying you have. Now I've been drag racing for 10 odd years in different cars.
I went 10.2 with 505whp in a very similar car. It would be a sad day for me if I could only do a 10.8 with 530whp in these cars.
@@sunbish don't get me wrong I've seen lower HP cars in the 10s but they are cutting 1.4 sec 60ft but only trapping 98mph. Looking at your videos your 418whp car is around 2.1 sec from 1/8 mile to 1000ft your 500 whp car is 2 sec. How do you explain that

The 435i had a good tail wind behind it, at least 10-15mph and slightly higher gusts. The difference would be larger if it had equal conditions, which would be more prominent at higher speeds which I just showed above.
@@Madmalchen Here’s how much of a difference the wind speed, and direction along with DA made. 435i in sea level DA with a 5-10mph head wind was trapping a best of 123.58 a week before. All others from this same day were 123.34, 123.38 and 123.36. It went 11.06 in this weather but with a better 1.68 60’. This track bites better, as was consistently doing 1.67-1.71 60’s. Now with a tail wind and -1800ft DA, it did a worst of 125.12 and a best of 125.89, which roughly equates to a 2mph trap speed difference. This track definitely doesn’t bite as good as the other. The 60’ ranged from a best of 1.71 and one other 1.79 which resulted in a 11.05, while the rest were 1.8+. The DA and the wind direction and speed made all the difference. Put the 340i in similar -1800ft DA and with a tailwind, I’m sure the trap speed would be a consistent 132+ and it would ET slightly better as well.
your thoughts on xhp drag mode for the 340?
It makes the car quicker, but I don’t know how much it’ll shorten the life of the transmission. It’s one of those things, you take some but at the same time you give some.
@@sunbish do you use it whenever you roll race or is it when you feel it is needed for a certain car your going up against?
what’s your preference when it comes to these two intake styles? I’m deciding whether to use my stock box with high flow drop in and air scoop or aftermarket closed box with cone filter and a larger diameter pipe (like the dinan one). I’ve seen promising results from both on forums but decided to ask you (the stock turbo N55 king) aswell.
Intake IMO is only worth it if you go with a custom tune. I tested a CTS intake and the car didn’t go any quicker with the OTS maps. So I took it off and went back to the stock air box with a drop in air filter. If you have a custom tune that can take advantage of the lower WGDC that it provides, you can push the turbo a little harder and make a little more power. The OTS maps won’t do that, they are preset and looking for a certain amount of load regardless if the intake and exhaust are freer flowing. People have told me to go with a mppk lower that has an additional hole in it. The CTS has shown to lower WGDC as well, but like I stated the car didn’t pick up mph in the 1/4 mile or go quicker in the 60-130 either.
@@sunbish ohh I see, I’ll be sticking with the ots maps for now then. Thankfully my car is an mppk so can utilize that performance lower box. Currently running a BMS intake which translates the sound from my turbo smart quite nicely but I’ll probably end up parting ways with the stututu sound in exchange for at least healthier IAT numbers. Thanks for taking the time to share such a detailed and informing answer to my question🙏🙏
