The outdoors featuring camera equipment and camping equipment (and a little bit in between). I'm not a fan hype so everything here is straight forward. I try to create quality videos around the gear that I receive and I'm happy to entertain collaborative requests. Really, this is all about getting outdoors and having the right gear to enjoy and capture the adventures.

The ability to be off the hard ground at night in the backcountry is what makes the Night Cat hammock an exceptional choice for your next trip. Although not without it's drawbacks, the Night Cat Lay-Flat hammock has a ton of great features and can accommodate anyone up to 6'6" and still have room for all of your gear underneath, all for around $200.

Nisi Athena Cine Lens Test Footage - Sony FX3 and FX30

The Nisi Athena Primes are awesome. Yes I've actually compiled footage from both the Sony FX3 and FX30 (unlike many clickbaiters claiming they've shot on the pyxis but really just using the bmcc). I love the slight lean into greens that these have and I've found they do exceptionally well with the colors in nature. At roughly $1200 per lens they're not exactly cheap but do keep an eye on the Ni...

Stout 6M Pro Tent in the Winter

I asked for the biggest and the best. They don't come much bigger or better than the Stout Tent 6 meter Pro, Doubl-Door Bug-Guard tent. Built for extreme conditions and long expeditions, you won't be at all disappointed in purchasing any of Stout's canvas bell tents. This model comes with two doors and essentially two sets of walls to become a versatile and comfortable 4-season tent. This is al...

Colorado Backcountry with the Sony FX30
I’m considering getting this mic setup for a trip I’m doing to Utqiagvik (Barrow), Alaska in two weeks. The weather will be very similar to what you experienced. Very cold and windy but also almost entirely dark 24 hours a day as it will be late December. I’m glad you placed the lapel mic lower on your jacket. As an audio visual technician by trade, I see so many people place the lapel much too close to their face, it sounds bad. Lapel mics sound better further down from the mouth. Anyway thanks for this review in such conditions. I think I’ll pick this microphone setup up and give a test in the northernmost town in North America! I’ll post some content from that in January 2025.
Amazing! I’d love to get up to Barrow some day, I’d love to see what you capture if you plan to post on RUclips? I think you’ll really like the mic for the price! I use it as often as I can!
These lenses look great, but they have absolutely no character in my opinion. I know you said the opposite in this video, but after using my Contax Zeiss lenses for so long, these just really lack something special. They're great, clean, sharp, clinical... but for me, they kind of lack a special look for narrative work. That being said, some in camera softening and the right lighting can really help, a great LUT and color process can take it the rest of the way. So I think they're totally worth it.
wow! this video is such a great work, Jordan! you're a true artist. and it's just a review for a mic..! why this one has only 630 views? I'm really sad about this. some dumb videos on tiktok reach millions of views and such masterpieces are never appreciated as it has to be :(
Thank you for that encouragement! Despite the trendy poor-quality vids, I’ve decided I’m going to keep going with high quality even if it’s slow growth!
Hello Jordan, one question, please: Are all the video footages, including 2:43 and 3:00, straight out of the camera or color graded?
All footage is corrected and graded.
Hi. I am powering my BMPCC6K with a powerbank. Will the same hdmi fry out occur if the connect both the power to the camera and the hollyland pyro h wirless device? Thanks
quality is unbelievable
Amazing your work
Thank you!
you could try one of those arri dovetail plates to probably balance the whole thing, NICEYRIG Rosette Mount 15mm Rod Rail Baseplate with Dovetail Clamp for ARRI Standard Bridge Plate, i couldn't remember the name of the part but its something like this, im looking to be more compact i got a bigger like you but working on a run and gun v fold thingy if possible hehe
your color space proresraw??
How did that stove work? Will it run all night ? How hot would it get that tent?
Works great! It definitely isn’t big enough to be able to run all night tho.
Would you recommend a bigger stove or will this get temps inside tent up to say 60 degree Fahrenheit? I dont mind adding wood during the night. I never sleep for more than 4 hours straight jist wondering which stove would be best?
@ryan3263 I think this one will handle most of your needs unless external temps are super low. I don’t think it could handle sub-zero temps.
Ok thanks
Hey, the camera really doesn't affect chromatic aberrations that's all in the lense .
are the rear brakes on the left side or the right side of the handle bar?
Tilta should be called tiled color shift because their filters are trash. Freewell is the go to for color shift followed by NiSi and then PolarPro.
I guess it’s a good thing I’m only using the matte box and not their filters.
Hi. Kind of old video but I was Curious, Were you using the anamorphic lens in the beginning when you were pointing the camera at yourself? Looking to get one myself
Sorry for the late reply…yes every shot was filmed with the anamorphic on the camera!
@@jordanvp thanks man and looks awesome!
Talk about the bike!
Most people don't know that these lenses were made with 8k+ optics. Which is nuts.
Hey, what is the need for the black magic RAW software? What is it doing here that Premiere on it's own won't do? Thanks!
Premiere pro won’t play or be able to read and display the footage you have to install Black magic raw to even be able to edit the footage in premiere. Only other option is to use davinci
@ thank you - how come I’ve edited the footage on premiere pro without installing it? Perhaps the clips were downgraded in quality without the use of black magic RAW? :-)
@sia7224 yes it’s possible to edit the footage without the BRAWplugin but you wouldn’t be able to color grade the braw files in a non-destructive way. Definitely still really high quality video files without BRAW plugin but you’ll have much better control with it installed!
We ran it some difficulty too. The nuts and the screws didn’t fit. The nut came in this blue film making it difficult to crew it in. We went and bought a power drill to screw the nut but one of them got stuck in the middle of screwing and we’re not able to unscrew it. Did yours comes with the blue film too?
Yes those are nylon locking nuts, they are meant to be difficult so that they do not loosen. You really only need a solid ratchet set for those and you should be able to tighten them. It would still be a fairly slow process but that’s really the reason they do that.
@@jordanvp thank you for getting back to me. I guess I’m the unfortunate one, we tried again yesterday and the nut got stuck in the middle during the process we couldn’t unscrew it back up. Took three guys to unscrew it and it wouldn’t budge. We contacted the seller hope to hear from him soon. I’m glad you get to enjoy yours.
Was there a lake or creek nearby
There’s a seasonal creek that goes along some of the trails, but Truman lake is not far away and there are plenty of access points!
Great video sir!! Thank you making this informative video!!
No problem, glad this was helpful!
You shot this on the fx30 ?
I did, along with the Helios 44-m lens.
Gap too big get another one
Can i have these luts for free?
I live in madera greatful to have such beauty in my backyard
I love your color grading. Can we can a tutorial on your technique?
Thank you! Yes I will try to create one!
@@jordanvp Thanks!
@@jordanvp Do you happen to use any LUTs or do you do it from scratch?
@Proxiiter I do use luts from lens distortions in combination with Dehancer plugin.
4:17 Wow 😮 Gorgeous scene.
Hi i have a question, you filming with a BMPCC 6K right? i thinkyou filming in 6K, my question is how your record 6K footgae to a monitor that only alow 4K HDMI Input, or is it dosent matter if its 4K input?
No the dimensions for the monitor do not matter since I’m not recording to the monitor.
When you imported the footage, it wasn't all washed out like B Raw footage normally is. Why is that?
Hello, premiere has some options that automatically convert to rec 709 and things like that, to make it easier to view, I don't particularly like these automatic options, but they exist.
This is dope!
Thanks!
Nice. Great video.
Thank you!
2:19 is in log, 2:33 suddenly it is in color before you added the adjustment layer? Did you have auto detect log to 709 on?
🤣🤣🤣 love this
Thanks!
Has anyone order online from roll road ebike, is it safe ???
This was as great review and very helpful. I'm considering this setup for outdoor podcasting . Do you use the shotgun to pick up ambient noises (i.e. footsteps, campfire, etc.), or do the mobile lavs pick that sound up?
Thank you! Yes I use this rig for ambient sounds, pretty much everything and I’m really happy with it!
Hi:) Does the PL-E adapter change the quality of video shooting or is this a myth? Thanx!
No that’s definitely a myth since there are no glass elements, it’s just a piece of metal. The only possible effect could be focal length since the lenses elements would be farther from the sensor.
DISCLAIMER: This helmet wasn't designed for cycling while motor biking.
I understand that thought but they sent it to me specifically to review as a helmet for e-biking soooo 🤷🏻♂️
Just ordered mine today. Hopefully I get it before this weekend.
Nice! You’re gonna love it…and they’re usually pretty speedy on fulfilling orders…FedEx is the unknown variable haha.
Does the FX30 use the same PL Mount as the PMW F3?
The fx30 is an E-mount camera so you would need the PL adapter.
Love it! Too bad amazon didnt really have a deal going on for them on prime day! I wouldve jumped on the 5 Lens kit for 20% off haha
Nice. Try the Dulens lenses.
great video dude!
Thank you!
Your problem was that you failed to use an insulated sleeping pad on the cot! That's something most people forget ,but the cot itself has no insulation and the bottom of your bag gives none when it smashed flat by your body. With a 20 degree bag on a 30 degree night with and insulated sleeping pad you should have been fine. At 60 yrs old ,,I have approximately 500 nights of winter camping in my life. I live in Montana and I seldom use anything but a 20 degree down quilt and a blanket just in case
Hey Jordan great vid, how the active stabilisation works on that lens + FX30?
Works very nicely, any handheld shots in this video would have had steady shot on (particularly any bike clips) and there are times that I won’t even bother bringing a gymbal it’s that good.
I was hoping you could send me all the p settings for the controller so I could reset mine..I screwed it up somehow.. Thanks
Can't expect much without mud tires when you are in the mud. That is not a trailhawk problem... that is not having the right equipment for the right challenge.

UPDATE JUNE 2024! I had pinned a comment earlier this year about the communication issues I've encountered with Bandit and their lack of affiliate relations. I was finally contacted by Bandit about 8 months later in regards to receiving payment for referral sales, and the actual payment arrived two months after that. In that email regarding affiliate sales I was also offered an opportunity to review the Bandit X-Trail Pro to which I agreed. About a week later, they contacted me again regarding the previously mentioned update comment I had pinned here. They stated that as they were preparing to send out the X-Trail pro for review that they would like me to remove that pinned comment to which I graciously said that I look forward to Bandit Bikes growing in the area of communication as I believed they produced a quality product and agreed to remove the comment. Ever since that last email, I haven't heard a response on shipment of the bike, then reached back out to Bandit to receive an update on the X-Trail Pro which indicates to me that they have not changed their public relations procedures. I am back to the position that I cannot endorse the purchase of Bandit Bikes. I will leave this video up for those who would like to see the performance X-Trail Lite.
Love the awning but this is a random question.. what camera are you shooting this video with it looks so clear and good!
Shooting with the Sony FX30 and Sigma 24mm Art lens, it's a stellar combo.
