Keith Smith suffers from a C4 "complete" spinal cord injury due to a motorcycle accident in 2009. 10 years later in 2019, he participate in a medical trial where he undergoes surgery and is implanted with an epidural stimulator by Dr. Susan Harkema. This is an experimental procedure to treat spinal cord injury and those suffering from paralysis.

Dr. Hakema's team never replies to me & her idea was performed on 5 patients. Reeve Foundation only emails me for donations. There are many patients like myself losing hope. Why would they care if we walk & don't?

This is a awesome video. Im classified as a T6 complete paraplegic. I was involved in a motorcycle accident conducting a funeral escort. I really can't couch. I fractured my C4-6 but they said I was ok but still have fusion from T5-T11.I happy for those who have got it and feel better.

How does this help quads with their hands? Where the hell are the safety glasses with the guy using the soldering iron? Solder is 360-370 degrees F which will burn right through the eye balls. Now he is blind. Poor video. Safety first. Human safety always first.

Thirty- four years injured and now you are understanding paralysis? Please, give me a break! How does this help quads with weak or no hand function? No use of walking when you can't use your hands.
It's not just about walking. It's about a better quality of life. Your muscles return from atrophy, blood begins to circulate properly, spasms become minimal, bowels are more productive, blood pressure regulates, you feel your insides working properly and much, much more! Hang in there brother. This will soon be available to everyone!!

@@spinalcordinjurycommunity6672 Hang in there brother? How much longer do I have to wait? I got injured March 23, 1987 and my rehab doctor told in 8 years you'll be walking. Research looks good. That 8 years ended 26 years ago. This stimulator is only a band-aid approach. It does not heal the spinal cord. I have not seen one walking paralyzed to this day. It may help para but not quads. I have no hope in this device for me.
@@floydtruskot7192 that's being worked on right now. However, the stimulator is about much more than just the hands. It's about a healthier life.
