More gameplay from the D2All that is unfortunately destined for the bin, so Rocky and I decided to share it instead of have dozens of hours of effort entirely gone to waste. This is almost 2.5 seconds faster than the Map 26 of the existing TAS, but we now have a new route that saves even more time. How much more? You'll have to wait and see :)

Nothing too exciting, I noticed there was this gap when watching cryoniqs max D2All. Turns out ClumsyDoomer already did this glide in their UV-Speed D2All TAS, where they got 0:01.77. Got an RNG seed where the archie attacks me on the first frame for no reason other than that it looks cool.

This repeats at 1:40 with input & co-ordinate display on. This was really, really fun to make! I don't really enjoy TASing combat or doing RNG manipulation (although it's very fun to watch), I really enjoy optimising movement and this wad is wonderful for that. Fairly crushing that it's so close to being under a minute though :( There are 104 glides (I think? Not gonna lie, hard to keep count) ...

I really wanted to try to do a sequence of fire rocket - open door - rocket explodes - shrunk corpse slides under door, but I couldn't get it to work while shooting on the first possible frames after grabbing the rocket launcher. It's possible to grab the rocket launcher a little sooner by ending the wallrun sooner and heading towards it, but I think this would end up costing more time than it'...

I haven't ever really taken much interest in the Master Levels but about a month before making this I saw a playthrough video by Andrea where she mentioned that this map had an exit switch zero press, and it's been sitting in the back of my mind since. Part of a D2All that myself & RockyGaming4725 are working on. We're well ahead of this, but went back to save quite a bit of time on this map. Our first exit was 25.46, but since then we've practiced diagonals a bit and gained a better understanding of them, and have developed a nice brute forcing tool that can tackle much larger brute force ranges for superior results.

This has the exact same inputs as my No Monsters demo I submitted very recently. Rocky told me it synced in UV immediately which was pretty cool, so I tried syncing it in Nightmare. Luckily MBF is one of the complevels that allows for RNG seed manipulation so all I had to do was manually change the seeds until it synced. This happened extremely quickly, this was only the fifth seed I checked :)

So do you actually press any buttons in the game, or just let the computer play it out?
Basically I created a file that contains a sequence of all the button presses in the game, and then the computer plays through this file. So there isn't any actual skill in playing the game on display here, but it's a big job to make sure all the coded inputs are optimized and save as much time as possible.
At last I can comment on this properly! I had to watch it at least a dozen times first and really take it all in. That's not an exaggeration. I've watched this several times at this point, and once at half speed to really grasp everything properly. This is incredible, guys. I've been waiting for an updated run of this campaign for years, and you did not disappoint. I was losing my mind the entire time. - The jump on map 2 was nuts. - Map 3 was incredibly clean. That movement must have been a nightmare, even frame by frame. - I loved seeing the trick on map 4 finally. - The switch presses on map 6 were so slick. You clever monkeys. - The rocket boosts on map 10 were awesome. They just didn't stop XD - Map 11 is beautiful. - The route on map 14 was awesome. - The route and tricks on map 20? I don't often audibly gasp when I watch speedruns anymore, but my jaw hit the floor seeing that. - I really liked seeing the void glide on map 22 :) - Oh my god, the route on map 23. I don't even want to know how long that must have taken. Absolutely insane. - The route on map 26 was so good, I didn't even understand it. - The rocket at 8:08 was cute :) - And of course the Icon kill was ridiculous. I loved the little optimizations throughout as well, like on Twilight and Omen. I can tell you guys put an insane amount of effort into this. The level of polish is immense. This is easily up there with my favorite runs ever. Unquestionably on par with the Doom 2 run. Amazing work, guys. I thank you both for your time and skills! Shout out to previous TAS runners as well. I look forward to the inevitable run of Evilution now lol :D
Thanks a bunch! :) Most of the tricks and routes were discovered before Rocky and I got to making this TAS but it was immensely satisfying being able to put them all together, to see all the known tricks and skips all in one place. I'm glad you liked it. I told myself I wouldn't touch Evilution but who knows haha, it'd be kinda cool to do all three runs!

what does TAS do?
Basically a TAS is a file that contains a list of all the inputs for some gameplay. When making a TAS you have to go frame-by-frame and manually choose all the inputs, see what those inputs do in the game when the computer plays through them, and then change those inputs over and over until you think you've found the fastest ones. So it's not competing against people actually playing the game, it's more of a test to see how quickly the game will theoretically let itself be played.

Auto aim tries to hit the lost soul the pain elemental to the left shoots, but ends up missing so the rocket ends up going up further than usual, hitting John Romero!
Using the cacodemon and pain elemental for a rocket jump in map 29 was brilliant.
Missed an entire map just because i lit a cigarette. God dammit.

Work of Art. Tombstone is such a monstrous map, it's something else watching it get destroyed in 45 seconds.
And still, the map is robust enough to warrant collecting all keys

The doom engine runs at 35 FPS (+25 interpolated) ?
You're right, yes. The logic of the game runs at 35 FPS all the time but visually you can interpolate frames. It running at 60 FPS here is a limitation of RUclips but when playing the game on your computer it can go way faster than that, and because it's Doom it's quite common to get hundreds or thousands of FPS.

Yeah incredible 9:38 for those who wanna rewind. That is nuts, seriously congrats to both of them. Archy jump over the wall probably EXACT space to do so, and 2 rockets to the dome for good luck, the 2 rockets are only possible when the angle is insanely precise.

I made the demo file for this TAS using a program called XDRE. To make the video to upload to RUclips, I played that demo file through the DSDA-Doom source port.
I am the most impressed with how you dealt with icon of sin
quote: Normally you need to press a switch and raise a platform, ride that platform and shoot multiple rockets into the exposed brain of the final boss. This typically takes three rockets, but if they're placed perfectly, it's possible in two: max splash damage from rockets is 128 and the final boss has 250 health. Not only can we skip the third rocket, we can also skip the raising platform! A REALLY cool trick was found where you can have the Icon of Sin spawn a Pain Elemental (which enemy it spawns is random), have the Pain Elemental spawn a Lost Soul, and fire a rocket at that Lost Soul as it flies towards you. If you do it right, the autoaim of the weapon will make the rocket fly a little upwards, towards the exposed brain of the final boss, and miss the Lost Soul as it flies past, thereby shooting a rocket into the exposed brain of the enemy much sooner than is normally intended. Do this twice, and angle the rockets perfectly so that they cause 128 damage each time, and you save around 8-9 seconds.
