Labor day project to get Dad's Key West 1720 boat with a 50hp Yamaha 4-cycle going with the help of my son. I've had this amplifier for a good 20 years or more, but it just suddenly stopped working a few weeks ago, so I dug into it. Never had it opened up before, but it looks like it got in a flood at some point in it's past, but I don't think that affected it's failure. It has *LOTS* of hours on it in my hands, since it will frequently get left on for days at a time in my office

Just repaired this little setup I was given at the Richmond hamfest when they didnt sell. They needed some work. Amp needed a diode and some capacitors. Tuner needed an IF IC and a stereo decoder IC. The newer Klipsch speakers were also headed for the trash at a job site. The system really rocks! This will make a nice setup for spare bedroom once installed.
Troubleshooting with a laser thermometer

Had a bad fuel injector on my SAAB 900 (that's the clicking you are hearing) that was not spraying fuel in. That cylinder was not firing and causing some rough running. A quick check at the header with the laser thermometer shows exactly which one not firing

Laminated stack that the coil is wrapped around is separated .
I bought an AR-1214 and built a system around it.
It is the contactor. I've had the same problem. IMO, the sound could be due a loss of strength in the EM field generated by the coil in the contactor. Just change the contactor with one with similar properties, usually they are coils of 24Volts working for 30, 40 amps in 240Volts.
i did (mentioned in notes) when i disassembled the contactor, there was a bug mashed inside it ;)
contactor workes with electronic magnet git a difrent style contactor and try it ..the buzz is the eletrick coil thet pulls in contactor ..some are loude some are quiet..

When in doubt use compressed air to clean contactor and area.
lol i always suspected they had a magnet in there to make you miss on purpose.

Probably dirt, bug, or something else preventing coil from pulling in. When you push it in manually you are making more of a contact and less resistance....just my thought. Easy enough to just replace the contactor.

I built the AR-1214 Receiver - essentially these two components combined - in 1974, and used it for many years. Really nice little stereo system.
I built one for some friends in 1975. I think they are still using it

The contactor is fully shielded and the button is plastic, newer ones are not exposed nor dangerous to push with a finger.
This is common in the south with ants getting into the contactor.
